GERMAN SHORTHAIRED POINTER

OPEN (2, 0 abs)

1 Smith’s Rookcross Rosie Cotton at Abbeyaire. BOB. G2.

I was very impressed by this female. At just over 12 months of age, she already has a great attitude to the show ring and gave a good account of herself. At the lower end of the Breed Standard for height, but she has balanced properties. Clean cut head in proportion to size of body, slightly rounded skull, soft and intelligent expression, ears well set on. Long shoulder blade, straight front, chest deep and of the correct width, lovely length of rib, nice level top line, good bend of stifle, pasterns fore and aft slightly sloping, moved well with good reach in front and good drive behind. Handled beautifully.

2 Bunker’s Mistcapel Blowin The Breeze. RBOB.

2 year old male, strong and powerful, well muscled, fit, in hard condition, this showed on the move where he covered plenty of ground with ease. Wider in front than 1st and I would prefer more bend of stifle and straighter top line, but pleasing forequarters, good length of neck, sloping shoulders, well boned straight legs. Rib cage long and deep, wide across loin, nice depth through flank, but still allowing for slight tuck up. Skull and muzzle parallel, obvious brows, tightly fitting eyelids and appealing intelligent expression.

HUNGARIAN VIZSLA

JUNIOR (1, 0 abs)

1 Rackett, Rackett & Wilcox’s Solencia Misty Morning. BOB.

This well coated 17 month old female was feminine but robust, she had lovely paces, straight and true coming and going, graceful and stylish in profile, very good reach and drive. Straight legs all round, quality bone, short arched toes. Attractive head, pleasing eye colour. Strong neck, sloping shoulders, well sprung ribs, nice turn of stifle. Well handled.

LIMIT (2, 0 abs)

1 Rackett, Rackett & Wilcox’s Roughshoot Red Red Wine of Solencia. RBOB.

Unfortunately this 3 year old male’s movement was affected by the windy weather, at times he was rather stilted in profile today, but straight and accurate going away and coming towards. Balanced outline, attractive head and eye colour, well laid shoulders, firm chest, straight front, good spring of rib and well filled in flank, slight tuck up. Well muscled hindquarters, ideal bend of stifle, expertly handled.

2 Gregory’s Sevensden Autumnal Gold JW.

2 year old female. Attractive feminine head with parallel planes in profile, fairly wide skull, gentle expression. Lovely length of neck, balanced angulation, straight front, medium bone, tight feet. Level back and pleasing spring of rib, well handled. Longer in body than 1st.

OPEN (1, 0 abs)

1 Rackett, Rackett & Wilcox’s Roughshoot Heaven Scent of Solencia JW.

This upstanding male was not the happiest dog today, although he wagged his tail and there was no aggression. He maintained a warm expression from attractive eyes, his head was lean and well shaped. Sloping shoulders, level back and short couplings, ribcage long and deep and with good spring, strong hindquarters, well bent stifles. Elegant, active and free flowing in profile, but coming towards and going away he was slightly out at elbow.

POINTER

1 Drake’s Fleurfield Moonflower with Clamerkin. BOB.

Very nice female, a series of flowing curves, attractive outline. Straight front, oval bone with obvious sinews, well cushioned tight feet. Lovely head with sculpted features, fine leathers, bright eyes. Plenty of depth through brisket, liked her length of rib and firm top line, tail well set on and used to advantage on the move. Well muscled hind quarters with good bend of stifle. Sympathetically handled and moved out smoothly.

CHESAPEAKE BAY RETRIEVER

POST GRADUATE (1, 0 abs)

1 Baxandall’s Battsrock So Fine from Sharbae. BOB.

Beautifully made, balanced and strong with a thick sedge coloured weather resistant coat, depth of body equal to length of leg. Very attractive head, length of muzzle in proportion to length of broad skull, attractive eye shape with keen and intelligent expression. Muscular neck of good length, straight front, hare shaped tight feet. Pleasing body properties, well sprung ribs, rib cage of good length, slight tuck up under short firm loin. Angle at shoulders to upper arm and bend of stifle match, this enabled her to move with drive from behind and good reach in front. Well handled.

OPEN (1, 0 abs)

1 Braxandall’s Battsrock Ashes To Ashes for Sharbae. RBOB.

Lighter coloured female, coat not quite as thick as 1st, but still had oily properties. Muscular neck to well placed front assembly, deep brisket, chest broad and strong, straight front, fairly large hare shaped feet. Pleasing strength to hindquarters, wide thighs, well turned stifles. Preferred the broader skull and head of 1st.

CURLY COATED RETRIEVER

POST GRADUATE

I found out later that 1st and 2nd are litter brothers, just short of 18 months old. I preferred the outline and body proportions of 1st, 2nd was slightly longer cast.

1 Pavitt, Pavitt, Whitehead & Whitehead’s Foxriever Fire Cracker (AI). BOB.

Black coat of tight curls, he felt very good to go over. Balanced outline, deep through brisket, plenty of forechest, level top line, short couplings, and slight tuck up. Sloping shoulders and return of upper arm placed forelegs well under body. Strong bone, strong pasterns, tight feet. Well ribbed back, firm loin, tail flowed off back and carried well on the move. Pleasing angle of stifle, plenty of room between hocks from the rear, hind pasterns strong and low to the ground. Well handled.

2 Sutton, Sutton & Whitehead’s Foxriever Firefly (AI). RBOB.

Liver coated male, slightly longer in loin than 1st. Nice head shape, skull and muzzle parallel in profile, well shaped eye with typical expression. Well boned legs, round tight feet. Good lay back of shoulder, pleasing spring of rib, sound hindquarters. Attentive to sympathetic handler.

1 Miller & Millichamp’s Foxriever Solent Sensation at Wightcurls.

A credit to his owner, fit and well muscled. This grand gentleman of 7 and a half years had a kind demeanor, and was happy to be in the ring, he and his handler obviously adore each other. Well boned straight legs, strong pasterns, excellent coat of tight liver coloured curls. Nice angulation of shoulders, well sprung ribs, plenty of length of rib cage, nice short loin, strong and well toned hindquarters, firm second thighs, short hind pasterns. His rather untidy mouth let him down today, what a shame.

FLAT COATED RETRIEVER

POST GRADUATE (2, 1 abs)

1 Bowen’s Clandrift Funky Angel. BOB.

A very smart young female of 16 months of age. Quality head which was nicely moulded, lovely body shape and ideal proportion of length of leg to depth of body. Straight legs all round, enough width of chest, elbows tucked in, shape of rib cage allows plenty of room for free forward movement. Pleasing layback of shoulder, and stifles to match, hocks well let down. Straight away and back and flowed round the ring in profile. I heard later that today’s wins gave her final point for her JW – well done!

OPEN (3, 1 abs)

1 Bowen’s C Funky Angel.

Please see critique for 1st in PG.

2 Wilcox’s Flatcharm Oh My God. RBOB.

Just a month older than 1st. Very appealing in many ways, but didn’t have the same reach or drive as 1st, and I preferred the body properties of 1st. In wonderful condition, black coat in full bloom, nice head with kind eye, lengthy neck, straight front, round feet with well arched toes, well sprung ribs, plenty of bend of stifle. Tail well set on and carried well on the move, straight and true coming towards and going away. Well handled.

1 Cole’s Dusk Till Dawn Bloom For You at Wightsummer. BP. RBOB. PG3.

2 year old male with a lovely temperament, biddable and keen to please. Masculine head but not coarse, fairly broad skull, deep muzzle. Very pretty, good length of neck, well sprung ribs, positive topline, ideal tail set. Pleasing width of chest, prominent breastbone, well angled fore and aft, plenty of width across thigh and parallel from behind. Impressive rib cage for length, depth and spring, equal angulation fore and aft, plenty of width across thigh. Well boned straight legs, firm cat like feet.
