1 Desjiem Rebel Rebel JW (ai) (Ms A & Mr C Brown & Filby). Thought this one a lovely young bitch, full of quality and presented in lovely condition. I particularly liked her feminine expression and melting eyes, with a pleasing head, good neck and shoulders and well-conditioned for her age throughout. On the move she really came into her own when she eventually settled, covering the ground well with a free and easy action, but she could benefit from being moved at a longer stride to get more from her. Held her topline beautifully on the move. I thought she had the best of fronts. Still at that baby stage but plenty of time to mature and develop. I thought her quality to award her RBOB.

1 Sh Ch Ankerwycke Silk Stockings (Mrs L, Mr I & Mr F Elliott). Stood out in this class for her effortless ground-covering movement and breed type. Gundogs should be able to move and work all day, and I can see this bitch doing that. She covers plenty of ground with each stride and I couldn’t take my eyes off her. I thought she looked balanced on the stack, with good angulation and covering plenty of ground. To me she screams GSP and is just so feminine with lovely head proportions and in wonderful condition throughout. Well developed through the chest with plenty of rib, she is compact in body. She holds a firm, level topline and stands on neat and tight feet. I couldn’t not award her the class in a quality line-up, and had no hesitation in awarding her BOB. Thank you for bringing this lovely girl under me.
2 Graygees Tsarine (Mrs S A Edlin). Also scored on her movement in this class as a fit gundog however I didn’t feel she was as striding and ground-covering as 1st today. She held her topline well on the move. In this class she had a tendency to lift her head on the stack which can throw her topline out of balance and make her look straighter in shoulder, however she isn’t. I liked her angles fore and aft, and thought she had good second thigh and a fabulously muscled hindquarter. She had lovely tight feet. Overall a really nice bitch.

1 Urvum Hero at Beanalrem (Imp Ita) (Miss H & Mrs J & Mr B Vine & Hassell & Nash). What a super find of the day! He was everything I was looking for in a German Wirehaired Pointer and he just looked fabulous, and he was pushed all the way by the Open Bitch who really pulled out the stops! For one so young he feels so solid when you get your hands on him, and he is well bodied, with good depth of chest, well-ribbed back and good topline. He is well-muscled in rear, using his powerful hindquarters to drive around the ring, covering plenty of ground. He looked fabulous on the move. He had excellent furnishings for one so young, good beard and bushy eyebrows, and the correct coat texture throughout. Another thing I loved about him was how happy he was to be in the ring with his handler, showing that gentle and affectionate GWP nature. I couldn’t not award him BOB as well as his BP. I was absolutely delighted that not only did he win the Puppy Group, but he won the Adult Group, and Reserve Best Puppy in Show.

1 Sh Ch Bareve by The Book (Miss H & Mrs J Vine & Hassell). She pushed her handler all the way today and actually flew around the ring to keep him on his toes! When the dog and bitch went around together I was taken aback by how great they looked together. She made the most of herself in the ring. I liked her head and eye, with good strength and balance throughout. Excellent coat texture and furnishings. She has pleasing shoulder angulation, good muscle and strength through the thigh, and presented a very fit picture. She moved well, holding herself together and showing a sound, purposeful action. A very honest bitch with plenty to like. A very worthy RBOB.

1 Hillpark Painted Lady for Cerysan (Mrs Ap Caldwell). A lovely 9-month-old bitch who caught my eye for her balance and pretty, feminine appearance. She has a pleasing head, good neck flowing into well-laid shoulders and was a nice size for her age. She had well-sprung libs and good proportions in body length to leg length. Presented in lovely condition and clearly enjoying her day. She moved well around the ring, keeping a pleasing outline and showing plenty of promise for the future. Going away from me and coming towards she showed good reach, driving from behind. Delighted to award her Best Puppy and I’m sure she has a great career ahead.
2 Slapestones Huckleberry at Praytens (Mrs J J & Mr P A & Mrs T Mccann & Mccann & Ritchie). Another promising youngster, more substance throughout than my winner and at a different stage of development. Full of beans and clearly enjoying himself, which was lovely to see. He has plenty of substance and moved well, with particularly pleasing action from behind. Well constructed, with a good front, plenty of bone and good feet. Just preferred the overall balance and finish of 1 today, but another puppy with time very much on his side.

1 Lenamore On The Rocks with Fonntanelli (ai) (Miss M & Miss P Fisher & Burchmore). Around 18 months old and a very pleasing young bitch. I liked her head and overall size, and she presented a lovely shape when standing, with a pleasing topline and a balanced outline. She moved well in profile and covered the ground nicely, reaching fore and driving from behind, although she could be a little close behind at times. Handled very well and allowed to show herself naturally. Shown in super fit and hard muscular condition, definitely one I could see working out in the field. A nice young bitch who should continue to mature on.

1 Bronnydene Fly Red Kite (Mrs S P Chimes). A very masculine dog who was turned out beautifully, with a lovely rich coat colour and an overall picture that really appealed. Lovely chiselled head, with well-angulated shoulders, good depth of chest and well-sprung ribs. He has a good coupling and strong, well-muscled quarters. He won this class for me on his movement - he covered the ground so well, driving from the rear with a strong, purposeful action and really coming into his own once on the move.
2 Gilstonia Maggie May (Mrs G & Mrs Y Cooper & Mullin. One I have done well before and I do just love her. She didn’t perform 100% today though, perhaps contributed to by the flooring, I just felt like she had lost a little bit of energy in the tank. She has good feathering and presented a very pleasing overall shape, with a nice balance to her body and plenty of femininity. A lovely elegant neck, flowing smoothly into well-laid shoulders. Good forechest with a straight, well-made front completing a very balanced picture. Another quality bitch, but today I preferred the movement of my winner, who just had that little extra freedom and drive around the ring.

1 Nyliram The Alibi for Trebettyn JW (Mr & Mrs T Williams). Wow, what movers 1st and 2nd were! I absolutely adored them. This lad just excelled for breed type in my opinion, as everything about him screams Welsh Springer Spaniel. He is a lovely masculine dog throughout who really won me over as the class went on. He presented a balanced, pleasing picture standing, with a good depth of chest, well-ribbed body and good feet. He was handled so well, allowing him to show himself to full advantage. It was on the move, however, that he really made his mark for me. He was the best mover in the class, covering the ground with freedom and purpose while maintaining a good topline and correct tail carriage throughout. Full of type and character, and the more I watched him move, the more I fell in love with him. Delighted to award BOB.
2 Glenbrows Flame for Tantaraviz (Miss C M Ward). This has to be one of the most feminine Welsh Springers I have ever judged – what a melting expression with eyes to die for. Presented a lovely picture, with a pretty, well-balanced head and dark eye giving her a particularly soft expression. She has a good length of muscular neck which flows cleanly into her topline, with a straight front, good bone and plenty of substance without appearing heavy. I liked her depth through the body and forechest, together with her well-sprung ribs and balanced angulation front and rear. She has lovely width through the thigh, a well-bent stifle and strong quarters which she used to good effect on the move. A lovely bitch with so much to admire, delighted to award her RBOB.
AV Harvest Stakes Post Graduate (Bitch)
1 Elskerwoo Silver Lining (Mr J & Mrs C Sainsbury). From a large and varied class, this Clumber Spaniel bitch kept drawing my eye back to her. A lovely mover and, for me, the best mover in the class. She has a very pleasing head and expression, with amber eye colour and the correct stop. Good shoulder and bone, with correct leg length. Nothing overdone or exaggerated in any way. Presented in lovely condition, but what really won it for her was the way everything came together when she moved. She covered the ground freely and effortlessly while maintaining her shape, and the more I watched her, the more I liked her. A very worthy winner from a strong class.
2 Sinsircariad Dragon Fruit (Mr J Oscroft). Another lovely bitch who pushed the winner hard. This Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever was well muscled and presented in excellent condition, with a pleasing expression and a balanced appearance. She immediately appealed for her femininity. She has a clean, well-shaped head with a lovely alert expression, carried on a strong neck which flows neatly into well-laid shoulders. Straight and true in front with correct pasterns, good depth through the body and a pleasing spring of rib. Well angulated behind with a good turn of stifle. She moved so well, showing good reach and drive and using herself properly around the ring. I liked her very much.
