United Retriever Club

Breed: Retriever (Chesapeake Bay)

Thank you to URC for this opportunity. Although I no longer have a retriever, I always enjoy stewarding at this show. My special thanks go to Chrissie and Sue for their efficient stewarding on the day. Entries were few, but I had some quality dogs to assess.

Chesapeake Bay Retriever Puppy Dog or Bitch (2–1a)

 1. Mayhew & McCartney’s Arnac Bay Kansas — A superb breed example: a masculine seven-month-old puppy with a correct bite, broad skull, medium stop and muzzle equal in length to the skull. His neck was of correct length, with powerful, well-laid-back shoulders, straight legs and a deep chest. He held a strong, level topline on the move. His dense, oily coat had excellent texture for his age. Well muscled throughout, with a good turn of stifle, he moved freely with powerful rear drive. Although a little unsettled in his movement on the day, he is one to watch for the future. B.P.I.B & B.O.S.

 Junior Dog or Bitch (1a)

Postgraduate Dog or Bitch (0) Limit Dog or Bitch (1) 1. Corcoran & Jones’s OAKMARSH KINGSLEY ADSILA — A feminine three-year-old bitch of pleasing size and substance, with a brown coat of excellent oily texture. Shown in fit, hard condition, she had straight front legs, correctly coloured and shaped eyes, and small, high-set ears. A strong neck and well-laid shoulders complemented balanced front and rear angulation. Her ribs extended well back to a strong loin, and she retained a firm topline on the move. Well boned, with tight, strong feet, she moved soundly, maintaining good width both coming and going. RBB.

 Open Dog (0)

 Open Bitch (2, 1a)

 1. Mayhew & McCartney’s BB's Chesapeake Breeding Dory for Arnac — An excellent breed example, this two-year-old dark brown bitch was balanced and well put together. She had a kind expression, broad skull, correctly proportioned muzzle, correct ears and eye colour, and a complete scissor bite. Her medium-length neck led into powerful shoulders, and she was well muscled throughout. A deep chest, well-sprung ribs and correctly proportioned loin complemented a strong back and level topline. She had well-turned stifles, rounded feet, and the correct woolly undercoat and oily outer coat. She moved effortlessly with powerful strides and was handled well. B.O.B; I was delighted to see her also awarded R.B.I.S.
