Handling Classes

Judge Tracey Anscombe (Orangebox)

Thank you for the invitation to judge the handling classes at this show. I found the junior classes particularly encouraging for the future of our hobby, with some very talented young handlers on display.

Junior Handling

Class 429 – 6-11 years 2 entries 1 absent

1st Eva Scott - aged 11

A well-schooled Dalmatian, handled with confidence and care. She presented the teeth well, showing all three sides clearly and followed instructions well throughout. Just a little more awareness of the judge’s position in the ring would improve the overall presentation further.

Class 430 – 12-16 years 6 entries 1 absent

This was a very close class, with the top three all very accomplished and making my final placings a difficult decision.

1st Lillie Betty – aged 15

A smart young handler who made a pleasing partnership with her Basset Fauve De Bretagne. She carried out the required patterns neatly and with confidence, keeping good control throughout. Presented her dog sympathetically and to best advantage, with a polished overall performance. Best Junior Handler and Best Overall Handler

2nd Molly Whisker – aged 12

A capable handler who worked well with her Border Terrier and completed the class requirements with care. She listened well to instructions and produced some tidy pattern work. Just a little more precision in the final presentation would give an even more finished picture.

3rd Jayden Scott – aged 13

Handled this Hungarian Vizsla in a calm and considerate manner, showing a nice rapport with the dog. He followed instructions well and moved his dog at a suitable pace, allowing it to show to advantage. A little more ring awareness will help sharpen the overall presentation.

Res Thomas Taylor – aged 14 Handling a Scottish Terrier

VHC Krystian Pietrykowski – aged 16 Handling a Golden Retriever

Adult Handling

Class 431 – 17 -30 years 4 entries 2 absent

A very close class between the top two, both producing pleasing performances and making the final decision a difficult one.

1st Lucy Wareham

Handled her Clumber Spaniel with confidence and composure, making a very balanced partnership. She carried out the required patterns accurately and presented her dog well throughout. A polished performance that just had the edge in a very close class.

 2nd Jessica Taylor

A capable handler who worked neatly with her Border Terrier and followed instructions well. She showed her dog sympathetically and completed the class requirements with care. Pushed hard for top place in what was a very closely contested class.

Class 431 – 31+ years 13 entries 6 absent

I very much enjoyed putting this class through their paces, with several capable handlers making for an enjoyable and competitive class.

1st Sandra Taylor

A polished and capable handler who made the most of her Border Terrier. She gave a clean presentation of the teeth and kept a tidy lead throughout, showing her dog to advantage at all times. A confident performance which earned her Best Adult Handler.

2nd Ann-Marie Taylor

Handled her Border Collie in a calm and efficient manner, carrying out the required patterns with care. She listened well to instructions and maintained a pleasing partnership with her dog throughout. A sound performance in good company.

3rd Marguerite McShane

Presented her Shetland Sheepdog sympathetically and completed the class requirements with confidence. She moved her dog at a suitable pace and followed instructions well, giving a pleasing overall picture. A worthy placing in a competitive class.
