OPEN SHOW – 8th February 2026
A most enjoyable time was had casting my eye over the Airedales at this super friendly Open Show. My thanks to the Officers and Committee for the kind invitation to judge and to my excellent ring stewards, Kaye Whittingham and Maureen Ward, for keeping everything running smoothly.

1. Hampton & Hall’s Muliebrity Stormy Waters. Two 7 mth old litter brothers challenged in this class with this smart lad coming out on top and I thought him most promising. He presented a very good outline with muscular neck of correct length to balance, firm through the topline, ribbing developing well and ribcage of good length, well-muscled loins, good croup and tail set on high. Masculine head of good proportions, flat skull, expressive dark eyes, ears pleased for size and set, clean cheeks, strength to muzzle and correct dentition. I liked his angles front and rear, he stands well naturally in front on compact feet and elbows are close to the body. When gaiting, he uses himself on the go around and is excellent going away. Very good texture to jacket and excellent presentation. Reserve Best Dog and Best Puppy in Show.
2. Watmough & Allen’s Muliebrity Ocean Blue for Andmaura. This boy is well off for bone and pleased for overall type. He has a clean neck of moderate length, topline to firm a tad but he has plenty of time on his side, brisket of good depth, ribbing extends well back, muscular loin and tail set on well. Flat skull which is proportionate in length to that of muzzle, correct stop, dark eyes giving keen expression, ears correct for size and set, clean through the cheeks, powerful muzzle and scissor bite. Not quite as good in front as his brother standing or gaiting but he moved out well when viewed in profile and also pleased when viewed from the rear. Good texture to jacket.

1. Allen’s Toulsyork Vanquish. Exuberant chap of 18 mths. All male and carrying good bone and at the top end of the standard. He has an excellent neck which is well muscled, firm level back but with a little more length, good depth to chest, ribbing well sprung, muscular loins and tail set on high. Masculine head with flat skull, minimal stop, dark expressive eyes, ears ok, clean cheeks, strength to jaws and first class dentition. Shoulders well laid back, elbows close to the sides and stands nice and straight in front on compact feet. On the move, he is excellent when going and away and was pretty good coming towards and on the go around but his joy for life didn’t make this as easy to assess as it could have been. Tan could be a little richer.

2. Watmough & Allen’s Kentwone Playing With Fire to Andmaura. 4 yr old who is very different to the winner and out of a smaller mould. Muscular neck of moderate length, nice short back and firm topline, good depth to brisket, ribbing carried well back, nice and short in loin, firm croup and tail set on well. Balanced headpiece with flat skull, dark expressive eyes, cheeks level as desired, strength to jaws and scissor bite. He could stand tidier in front and this reflects when gaiting but he has good rear action and went pretty well when viewed on the go around. Intense rich tan and pleasing texture to jacket. Well handled.

1. Edington-Hall & Ballinger’s Est Etiam Novus Angelus mit Wendaire (Imp Ukr) JW. 2 yr old who pleased for overall type, is well boned and was presented in first class order. Clean, muscular neck of correct length to give balance, firm level topline, brisket reaches the elbows, ribbing well sprung and carried well back, well-muscled loins and tail set on high. Balanced head with masculine expression; flat skull, dark eyes with desired keenness, ears pleased for both size and set, clean cheeks, powerful muzzle and scissor bite. I liked his front assembly and he stands true on excellent feet. On the move he pleased come towards but could be firmer going away. Quality jacket with hard, wiry texture and good colour. Very well handled.

1. Brand’s Jokyl Kingfisher. The three dogs who competed in this class couldn’t have been more different to one another. My winner was this 2 yr old. He pleased for type, has an excellent neck which is well muscled, particularly short back which is nice and level, good depth to chest, ribs well sprung, short in the couplings, firm croup and tail set on nice and high. Masculine headed lad with good skull to muzzle proportions, correct stop, dark keen eyes, ears good for size and set, clean through the cheeks, strength to jaws and correct dentition. Pleasing angulation front and rear, he stands straight in front on very good feet and is well-muscled all through. When gaiting, he goes so well when viewed in profile and is excellent in the rear. Jacket of excellent texture and also pleased for colour and was very well presented. Best Dog and Reserve Best in Show.

1. Edington-Hall’s Wendaire Kissed By An Angel JW ShCM ShCEx VW. This 10 yr old bitch has the most endearing temperament and certainly doesn’t realise or care than that she is of advancing years! She carries good bone and is feminine all through. Clean, muscular neck, topline just showing signs of age, deep in brisket, well sprung ribbing, well-muscled loins, firm croup and tail set on high. Nicely proportioned head with feminine expression; flat skull, dark keen eyes, good ears, cheeks free from any sign of fullness, strength to foreface and good dentition. She has pleasing angles both front and rear, elbows are close to the body, nice straight forelegs and she stands on compact feet. On the move, she goes very well on the go around and was more than ok when coming and going. Very good texture to jacket and well presented. Best Veteran in Show.

1. Hampton & Hall’s Muliebrity Sunshine. 15 mth old who very much appealed and was so good hands on. She appealed for overall type and presented a lovely outline. Clean, muscular neck of moderate length, firm straight topline, good depth to brisket, ribbing extends well back, nice and short in the couplings, good croup and tail set on high. Attractive head with flat skull, correct stop, excellent eye and ear, clean cheeks, powerful foreface which is proportionate in length to that of skull and scissor bite. Well laid shoulders, straight forelegs of good bone, round compact feet and firm, muscular hindquarters with well let down hocks. Moves so well on the go around and when going away and pretty good when coming towards. Excellent presentation and hard, wiry jacket of good colour. Best Bitch & Best in Show.

1. Brand’s Jokyl Daydreamer. 19 mth old who pleased for overall type and presented a pleasing outline. Excellent neck, short back with firm topline, brisket developing well for age, ribcage of good length, short muscular loin and tail set on high. Feminine headpiece with correct skull, stop hardly visible, expressive eyes of good colour, ears pleased when she was using them, clean cheeks, powerful muzzle of correct length to balance and scissor bite. Pleasing angles front and rear and stands on good feet but she is still to develop in forechest. Moving well on the go around and using herself as she goes and nice and firm in the rear. Best of jackets and so very well presented. Reserve Best Bitch.

1. Rust’s Jokyl Songbird. 2 yr old bitch who I though an excellent type and she presented a glorious outline with muscular neck of correct length to balance, short back with level topline, good depth to brisket, well sprung ribbing, well-muscled loins, firm croup and tail set on nice and high. Super headed girl with good skull to muzzle proportions, flat skull, best of eyes and ears, no suggestion of fullness in the cheeks, strength to foreface and correct dentition. I liked her angles front and rear and she stands nice and straight in front on excellent feet, has a good forechest and is well muscled all through. When gaiting, she pleased on the go around and is accurate when going away but coming toward she was a little wayward. Excellent presentation and hard, wiry jacket of good colour. Makes the most of herself at all times and was so very well handled.
