POLLARD CANINE SOCIETY OPEN SHOW 3rd MAY 2026

JUDGE’S REPORT FOR: SPANIEL (AMERICAN COCKER), SPANIEL (SUSSEX), SPANIEL (FIELD), BRITTANY (no entries), HUNGARIAN VIZSLA

I am grateful to such sporting exhibitors for bringing their dogs for my opinion on a relentlessly wet and chilly day. Every dog was clean & well-presented, a huge achievement in incredibly challenging conditions. My thanks also to the very hard-working organisers for a well-run show and to the providers of much-needed hot food and drink for a bedraggled judge!

Spaniel (American Cocker)

Post Graduate (5, 3 absent)

1st Clay & Beet’s Americlass Americano with Thistlefinch, delightful 6m B/T B, compact & sturdy, very pretty head with rounded skull & well-defined stop, balanced muzzle, good eye colour & shape with soft & alert expression, excellent length of neck into well-laid shoulders, strong in body with good ribs, short-coupled, firm slightly sloping topline, well-angulated hindquarters & straight rear pasterns, carried & used her tail well, settled into powerful driving movement & was still going strong in the Puppy Group later, happy outgoing temperament, RBOB & BPIB.

2nd Clay & Dummett’s Americlass Macchiato with Almondsbury, charming 6m B/T B, litter sister to 1st, a bit more of her all over, but with the same compact shape as her sister, a tad stronger in head than 1st at this stage but still feminine, correctly rounded skull, plenty of depth & breadth in muzzle, sweet expression in her dark eyes, good length of neck, well-angulated front & rear, strong bodied, short-coupled & strong in back, powerful on the move showing great confidence, these two will no doubt be regular competitors, my preference today was for the more refined head, topline & lower tail carriage of 1st.

Open (2, 1 absent)

1st Fryer’s Dreamcast Elysium at Carolco, outgoing 2 yrs B/W Parti B, square & compact in outline, balanced feminine head with correct skull shape, well-defined stop & chiselling, muzzle was broad & square, lovely eye colour & shape giving her the most appealing expression, good length of neck into well-placed shoulders, substantial deep body under her full straight coat, big ribs, short-coupled, slight slope to her topline, excellent reach in front & drive from powerful hindquarters over wet uneven ground, used her tail well, slightly high tail carriage did not detract from her profile, BOB.

Spaniel (Sussex)

Post Graduate (1)

1st Allen-Line’s Bjorksatras Corfitz at Deckham (Imp Swe), 18m D, powerfully built throughout with strong bone, masculine head with broad moderately-curved skull & pronounced stop, plenty of depth in muzzle, would prefer a shade darker eye but not showing haw & having an alert & kindly expression, strong in neck, very well angulated front & rear with muscular hindquarters, deep brisket & well-developed in body, well-ribbed back, firm topline, would just prefer a tad more leg length to balance his great strength & length in body, absolutely full of Sussex mischief on the move, but eventually settled to show soundness with that distinctive roll, RBOB.

Open (1)

1st Allen-Line’s Deckham Amber Sunrise, 5 yrs B, substantial & strongly boned yet undoubtedly feminine, attractive correctly-shaped head with characteristic pronounced stop & brow, balanced muzzle, kindest of expressions in her hazel eyes which were not showing haw, powerful neck leading to good shoulder placement, well-developed & deep in brisket, very strong & muscular throughout body with no sign of waistiness, well-ribbed back into very short couplings, well-developed thighs, full of herself on the move showing plenty of character & a decided roll, preferred her slightly better leg length & darker eye colour for BOB, delighted to see her shortlisted in the Group, well done.

Spaniel (Field)

Post Graduate (2, 1 absent)

1st Wood’s Nadavin Nusa at Sagala, well-presented upstanding 3 yrs black B, well-boned & standing on strong rounded feet, pleasing feminine head showing leanness beneath eyes, muzzle of good length with ample depth, dark almond-shaped eye giving her a gentle expression, long muscular neck, excellent front angulation with plenty of forechest, deep through body, well ribbed back, couplings short & strong, moderate bend of stifle, strong & wide in thigh, her Spaniel nose was glued to all the interesting sniffs on the ground making movement rather erratic, but could see she moved on a long sound stride, BOB.

Hungarian Vizsla

Junior (1)

1st Ward, Harrison & Harrison’s Glenbrows Blush at Tantaraviz, 13m B, very pleasing robust yet elegant outline for her age, excelled in head being well-proportioned, lean & feminine, muzzle well-squared at the end but not heavy, liked her slightly oval eye shape and colour giving her a gentle expression, good length to her neck and right amount of forechest, well-laid shoulders, tight elbows, straight forelegs, deep enough in brisket, just needs to drop a little more which should come with maturity, well sprung ribs & short-coupled with slight tuck-up, back firm & level, powerful hindquarters, glided effortlessly & gracefully round the ring, well carried tail, RBOB.

Post Graduate (3)

1st G Blush at T (repeat of Junior)

2nd Spavins & Senior’s Wallaroo Zendaya, 3 yrs B, as you might expect benefitting from more maturity than 1st, liked her medium size & distinguished appearance, pretty & feminine head which was lean with good width & balance, tapering & well-squared muzzle, correct eye shape & colour with lovely kind expression, moderate length of neck into well-laid shoulders, deep brisket, well-sprung ribs, short-coupled with desired tuck-up, short & level in back, muscular thighs, moderate bend of stifle, stood on rounded feet, low-set tail, light on her feet & very tidy on the move, just couldn’t quite match the fluidity of 1st today.

3rd Govier’s Goviz Spring Bouquet (AI)

Open (3, 1 absent)

1st Bradley’s Sh Ch Highforce All or Nothing JW ShCEx OSW, 5 yrs D, mature & undoubtedly male, good size, robust all through yet retaining a distinguished appearance, leanness & nobility very evident in the clean balanced lines of his head & muzzle, charming expression, excelled in length of neck, well-laid shoulders, deep brisket with tight elbows, well-developed throughout body with slight tuck-up, firm in back, strongly coupled, muscular thighs, tight rounded feet, his tendency to gaze up adoringly at his handler threw him wide in front initially on the move, but once settled moved true with grace & elegance, BOB, delighted to see him awarded Group 2, congratulations.

2nd Hardcastle & Bradley’s Castledogley Firenze JW, 3 yrs B, liked her overall robust build & balanced proportions, she has the prettiest of heads & gentlest of expressions with refinement and balance in skull & muzzle, excellent reach of neck into well-angulated front assembly, tight elbows, deep all through body, well-ribbed & short-coupled, not enjoying the dreadful weather conditions at all & tucking her rear under which detracted from her outline on the stack, tried very hard to please her handler on the move showing a wonderful temperament, but the cold continued to affect her & she couldn’t match the free movement of the winners in the Challenge, pity as she is lovely.
