My thanks to SWECA for their kind invitation to judge at their well-run show. My very knowledgeable stewards kept everything running smoothly enabling me to concentrate on judging. My biggest thanks go to all the exhibitors whose lovely dogs it was my absolute privilege to judge.

POST GRADUATE (3, 1 absent)

1st Taylor’s CREEAARK NEREUS AT MOLLYNEWF, substantial 2 yrs D with a balanced outline, strong masculine head with broad skull & deep muzzle, good stop & brow, a little “hot & bothered” today which made his expression rather difficult to assess, large ears of correct shape, strong bone throughout, large rounded feet, enough neck which was thick & muscular, deep chest, well-sprung ribs, short & strong in couplings, well bent stifles, excelled in width of thigh, movement was straight, sound & steady, which won him this class & RBOB.

2nd Sainsbury’s ELSKERWOO SILVER LINING, prettily marked 2 yrs B with a pleasing outline, feminine head with plenty of depth & width to her muzzle, clean eye with lovely expression, strong neck of good length fitting smoothly into well-laid shoulders, sufficient upper arm & forechest, liked her round feet, excellent depth in brisket & tremendous spring of rib, slightly longer in couplings than 1st, good width to hindquarters, happy temperament very evident in her wagging tail, moved steadily, just a little close in front & behind today.

OPEN (3, 1 absent)

1st Benge’s WAHNAHNISH SAINT GILLES JW (IMP NLD), everything about this 2 yrs D’s appearance suggests strength & determination, head is unmistakeably masculine & strong, skull broad, muzzle deep & square, eye is tight enough & of good colour, expression reflects his stoicism, large vine-shaped ears, neck thick & strong, plenty of forechest, well-angulated in front with good length to upper arm, very deep chest & excellent spring of rib, short-coupled, flanks deep & strong, very powerful hindquarters with great width of thigh, well-bent stifles, won this class & then BOB on his sound & driving movement.

2nd Sainsbury’s ELSKERWOO CLOUDY SKIES JW, eye-catching 2 yrs B, another with an attractive strong outline, feminine head which was very well-balanced, skull broad with plenty of depth & correct length to muzzle, charming expression from lovely clean & well-shaped eyes of correct colour, strong & powerful in neck, well-angulated in front, deepest of chests & well-sprung ribs, a shade longer in couplings than 1st, moderate bend of stifle, enough width of thigh, liked her a great deal & considered for RBOB, just moving a little closer behind than winners today.

SPANIEL (COCKER)

A super entry of Cockers, both in numbers and quality, across all four classes, which I really appreciated, thank you.

PUPPY (5, 1 absent)

Four lovely puppies here.

1st Hutson’s POPEBEL LIKE CLOCKWORK FOR STOBYTILL, 7 mths Bl/R B, baby of the class but she captured my heart with her compact Cockery shape and obviously merry character, sweet head still developing but already showing correct balance, good eye shape & colour with delightfully mischievous expression, shoulders well laid back with length to upper arm, deep & square in body, decent leg length, well-sprung ribs, short-coupled, well-bent stifle, movement was effortless & powerful with extension in front & drive behind, topped off with a well-set & carried wagging tail BPIB.

2nd Remington’s JESSREMJUL DIAMOND PEARLS, such a lovely clean balanced head on this 10 mths Blk B, most attractive eye shape & colour giving her a bright & gentle expression, neck is long enough & very strong leading to good front angulation, strongly made & deep all through body, ribs well-sprung, hindquarters developing nicely in width & strength, stifle well-angulated, very pleasing square & compact shape, beautifully presented, moved out very well, just couldn’t quite match the power & drive of 1st today, but a lovely puppy.

3rd Taylor-Kistner’s FRIELJOANIPA ENYA DREAMS

Res Norie-Miller’s RYALLCOURT ROCKET MAN WITH TANRINI

SPECIAL YEARLING (5, 1 absent)

1st Bindza’s LAURELLAKES PETIT BIJOU, very smart & well-presented 13 mths Blk B, typical sturdy & compact outline with enough leg length, sweetest & most feminine of heads with plenty of work in it, skull & muzzle were well-balanced with pleasing squareness to muzzle, good eye shape & size giving her the most appealing of expressions, enough length to neck, shoulders sloping, sufficient forechest, deep in brisket & short-coupled, well-sprung ribs, good strength & width in thigh, ample bend of stifle, ground-covering & positive movement showing good drive.

2nd Brothwell’s ANNILANN DA BUSINESS AT WISSANT JW, 19 mths Bl/R D, appealed for his compact & square outline, lovely masculine & balanced head without coarseness, enough depth to his muzzle which was of good length, correct moderate length of neck, plenty of forechest, excelled in layback of shoulder with good length & return of upper arm, deep in brisket, well-sprung ribs, short-coupled, liked his length of leg, good bend of stifle not overdone, sound & confident on the move, splitting hairs between 1st & 2nd, both with much to admire.

3rd Remington’s JESSREMJUL KURO ONYX

Res Kent’s LAURELLAKES MON AMOUR AT MERRYVISTA

POST GRADUATE (7, 2 absent)

1st Jarvis’ GALIBAR GOLDENEYE, mature 4 yrs Red D, eye-catching outline being compact & sturdily built, handsome well-proportioned head with plenty of chiselling giving him a softness that appealed greatly, dark eye & gentlest of expressions, strong & muscular neck of sufficient length, enough forechest, well-laid shoulder with enough return of upper arm, strong & deep all through body, short-coupled, good width to thigh & moderate bend of stifle, tail-set could be a shade lower but not carried too high to spoil outline, moved steadily showing drive behind.

2nd Gregory’s BABTONKELPIE TROLLEY DOLLY, very pretty 2 yrs Bl/R B, giving away a couple of years of maturity to 1st & not quite as compact in outline, feminine head with good proportions, lovely dark eye with gentle expression & eyelashes long enough to melt the coldest heart, sufficient neck which was strong, shoulders sloping with enough return of upper arm, great depth all through body, well-sprung ribs, ample bend of stifle, well-rounded hindquarters, would prefer a tad more width all through & a little less length to body.

Tough decisions in this very strong class, a real honour to judge these quality exhibits.

1st Remington’s ROZAMIE BLACK PEARL JESSREMJUL ShCEx, immaculately presented & fully mature 5 yrs Blk B, appealed for her smart compact & sturdy outline, beautifully-balanced feminine head with correct width to skull & squareness to muzzle, well-chiselled below eyes which were dark, giving her a gentle & bright expression, moderately long & strong neck with slight arch, excelled in front & rear angulation, plenty of forechest, deep & strong all through body, well-coupled, firm level topline, correctly set & wagging tail, her effortless ground-covering movement was a joy to see, BOB, didn’t realise she had been my Group winner elsewhere 2 years ago, but obviously have not changed my opinion of her!

2nd Clifford’s WYNCASTLE’S SAINT LAURENT AVEC CHAMFORD BEL/HUN JCH JW (IMP HUN), very smart 2 yrs Bl/R D with a lovely square & sturdy appearance that appealed greatly, undoubtedly masculine in head but without any hint of coarseness, square in muzzle with good length to balance well-developed skull, moderately long strong neck leading to very well-angulated front assembly, good forechest, deep & compact in body with well-sprung ribs, short-coupled, firm level topline, well-bent stifles but not at all overdone, moved out very soundly with typical Cocker bustle & drive, just preferred fluidity of 1st, very worthy RBOB.
