Golden Retrievers
Thank you so much to the Committee at The Merseyside Gundog Club for their kind invitation to judge at their Premier Open Show. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and I was very grateful for the opportunity. I would also like to thank my two stewards, Vicky and Grant, who were efficient and well organised, ensuring the ring ran smoothly. Finally, my thanks go to the exhibitors for bringing along their lovely dogs for my consideration.

1st Millington, Mrs J, STRETTONHILLS BRING IT HOME TO JARABEES
A promising 7 month old mid golden puppy presenting a lovely balanced outline. He was shown in excellent coat. He has good bone and stood on super cat like feet. Short coupled and moved out well with his handler, holding his topline level. I was pleased to award him Best Puppy in Breed.
2nd Copley, Miss E, ASHBYGLEN TRUECOLOURS AT EMMABE
A lovely 9 month old puppy with a pleasing head and kind expression. He is well balanced in outline with good angulation both front and rear. On the move he covered the ground nicely and held his shape well. A very promising youngster who just lost out today as I slightly preferred the overall outline of the winner.

2nd Forrest Mrs L & Mr A, ORLAGOLD MAJOR TOM
A nicely balanced pale dog with a pleasing head and dark eye giving a typical expression. Good for bone and stood on tight, cat like feet. He presented a tidy outline and showed well. On the move he covered the ground nicely. Just preferred the tail carriage of the winner on this occasion.

Just a baby at 6.5 months old. He has such a kind expression, good pigment and a lovely pale coat. Still very much a youngster who just needs time to grow and develop.
Open Dog (7 Entries, 3 Absent)
1st Broadhead, Mrs J D, MONCHIQUE LAST SAMURAI JW
A well presented mid golden boy shown in full coat. He has a masculine head with a kind, typical expression. Short-coupled with a lovely balanced outline, he stood well and showed himself to advantage. He maintained a level topline both standing and on the move, and carried his tail correctly which completed the picture. He moved soundly with good reach and drive. I was pleased to award him Reserve Best of Breed.
2nd Liggins & Hodge, Miss J & Mr S, SILVER PASSION GLAM FASHION AT NUNSBROOK JW (IMP DEU)
Another lovely dog presenting a balanced outline. He has a pleasing head with a kind expression. Good neck flowing into well laid-back shoulders. Nicely put together with good proportions and overall balance. On the move he covered the ground well. Just losing out on this occasion as I preferred the tail carriage of the winner.

Junior Bitch (3 Entries, 1 Absent)
1st Lowther, Mr I & Mrs N D, VERA’S MYSTERY AT EVENMINT
2nd Sanderson, Mr A & Mrs J, ORLAGOLD GLAMOUR GIRL
A lovely girl with a feminine head. She was presented in good coat and displayed a pleasing outline. She moved well around the ring and covered the ground soundly. However, it appeared she had a sore tail on the day which prevented her from carrying it level with her topline, this unfortunately detracted slightly from the overall picture on the move.
Graduate Bitch (7 Entries, 3 Absent)
1st Youngson, Mrs D A, LINIRGOR ADELINE AT TREEVEVILLE JW
A mid golden girl of a slightly larger frame who immediately appealed for her overall balance and type. She has such a pretty head with dark eyes and a kind expression. She has super straight forelegs and lovely tight, cat like feet which I particularly admired. She is short-coupled with balanced angulation front and rear. She moved out freely and confidently while holding her topline well throughout.
2nd Robbins & Rowark, Mrs D & Mrs P, BREKSWOOD HONEY BEE JW
Another super girl, smaller in frame than the winner but still very well balanced. She was presented in lovely condition and has a pretty head with a soft, feminine expression. Nicely ribbed with good body proportions and a level topline which she maintained both standing and on the move. She moved out well with her handler.

Post Graduate Bitch (1 Entries, 1 Absent)

She has a good reach of neck flowing into a straight front. Her topline is level and firm, which she maintained both standing and on the move. She moved out well around the ring, covering the ground nicely.
2nd Sanderson, Mr A & Mrs J, CESARKA QUITE A GIRL AT ORLAGOLD
Another lovely pale girl with good overall balance. She has a sweet head with a dark eye giving a gentle, kind expression. Nicely put together and she showed well for her handler. She moved soundly around the ring, but on the day I just preferred the movement of the winner.
3rd Broadhead, Mrs J D, STRATHLON SPIRIT OF ECSTASY JW
Open Bitch (6 Entries, 1 Absent)
1st Magson, Mr K & Mrs S, CASTLEGOLDEN CLASSY GIRL JW
An elegant pale girl with a very pretty head and the kindest of expressions. She was presented in excellent condition and showed herself well throughout. She has a well angled front, good depth of chest, and lovely bone, all supported by super cat like feet. Her overall balance and construction allowed her to move out very well with good drive, maintaining a level topline and correct carriage. I was pleased to award her Best of Breed.
2nd Bufton & Riley, Mrs L & Mrs S, PHOSLAS POLLY FLINDERS
A quality girl presented in lovely condition. She has a beautiful head and expression. Well constructed with good angulation both front and rear, giving her a very balanced and pleasing outline. She stood well and moved soundly with her handler, covering the ground with ease.
