Premier Open Show

My thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge a superb entry of Shetland Sheepdogs, and to all those who entered their dogs under me. Unfortunately, there were a number of absentees, but I was pleased with the quality of my main winners. Dentition was good overall, but short upper-arms and tails were apparent in several exhibits, which breeders should be noting.

Puppy (7, 4)

A difficult class to judge, as all three present were of different type and maturity.

1st SAPPHIRE MOON FOR SHEMIST (Mrs S Stock) – Almost 12 month old and took the class on maturity. Very feminine blue merle bitch, correct head with nicely tipped ears. Would prefer slightly more length to her neck. Angulation ok. Good length to body and nice feet. Moved well with reach and drive. BPIB

2nd SAVENDIE HIGHLAND LULLABY (Miss L Mettan-Ure) – 9 month old sable bitch, very feminine. Correct eyes and ears, but her muzzle was a bit longer than her skull, which detracted from the overall impression. Good length of neck onto good shoulders and correct angulation front and rear. Tail was a little short. Moved well, just didn’t have the same reach and drive as 1st today.

3rd OAKCROFT COPACABANA (Mrs V Winfield) – very promising 7 month old sable, who was enjoying herself on the sandy surface.

Special Yearling (8, 4)

1st KISHDIGRA AN IRISH BLESSING FOR CLAIRAVELLE JW (Miss M D Jackson) – 19 month sable bitch of slightly heavier build but a lot to like. Correct blunt wedge shape to head, tipped ears and beautifully shaped eyes. Good neck onto excellent shoulders, leading to a level topline with gentle sweep over the loin. Front and rear angulation good, legs straight when viewed from front and behind, tail a little short. Moved well.

2nd VALDOSTA JE AMOUR (Miss A Mitchell) – Tri dog of nice size with abundant mane and frill. Good proportions and shape to his head, but felt his ears were set a little wide and heavy. Good neck and good angulation. Long tail, moved well.

3rd SAPPHIRE MOON FOR SHEMIST (Mrs S Stock)

4th SANSCOTT RUBY TUESDAY (Mrs S A Moore)

Limit (4, 2)

1st SAVENDIE FORTUNE COOKIE FOR SHEMELLA (Mrs I J &Mrs M J Lewis) – 2 y/o sable bitch. Petite and feminine. Very alert to her handler and surroundings. Lovely blunt wedge shape to head, correct eyes and ears. Nicely arched neck onto well laid shoulders and level back with graceful sweep over loins. Good angulation front and rear. Still got some room to drop in chest. Would prefer a little more length to tail. Moved with drive and purpose. RBOB

2nd JOLEX CANDY FLOSS (Mrs S A Moore)– 4 y/o sable bitch, in full coat. Different type to 1st but still feminine. Nice head with good eyes and ears on a slightly broader skull. Good neck, shoulder and angulation. Feet a little over-long. Moved ok.

Open (6, 3)

1st OAKCROFT THE MANALORIAN JW (Mrs V Winfield) – 3 and a half y/o sable dog of good size. Abundant mane and frill but did not detract from the outline, which was balanced and proportionate to his size. Correct wedge shape to head, good eyes and ears used well. Attentive to handler. Good length to neck onto well laid shoulders. Good front and rear angulation. Straight legs when viewed from front and behind, with correct amount of bone, good feet. Level back with graceful sweep over the loin. Moved well, covering the ground effortlessly. I gave him RBOB from Junior when I judged him last, today he went one better with BOB

2nd SHEMIST FALLEN ANGEL (Mrs S Stock) – 4 y/o tri bitch. Very feminine and more compact. Nice shape to head, correct eyes but ears a little wide set. Good neck onto level back. Good angulation and happy tail that wagged throughout the class. Moved well, just couldn’t match 1st on overall impression.

3rd OAKCROFT GRACEFUL STAR OVER SAVENDIE JW (Miss L Mettan-Ure)
