My grateful thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge the Pastoral group at their show. The venue was perfect for a dog show, with short grass (although a little crispy for some paws due to the dry weather) and plenty of space ringside for gazebos to provide shade. Huge thanks to Jane and Mel, who were tasked with stewarding for me, and kept everybody and everything in order despite the blustery conditions. Thanks also to the exhibitors for their entries, and to those who stepped in to pilot dogs in challenges. I was very pleased with the quality of many of those who came under me and was spoilt for choice in both the adult and puppy groups.

1st SAVE THE TEARS FOR ANOTHER DAY WITH AUSSIAME (IMP ITA), BURT, MS E L – 5 y/o tri dog, oozing masculinity. Good head proportions, muzzle and skull equal length and broad. Well set ears and almond shaped eyes. Good neck, well arched. Good front and rear angulation, good amount of bone to legs, which were straight when viewed from front, side and behind. Brisket reaching to the elbow. Moved out well. BOB
Bearded Collie Post Graduate (2,1)
1st GWALLTAFWYN GWENLLIAN, STEER-ELDRIDGE, MRS D – 19 month bitch. Very feminine head of equal proportions in both length and breadth of skull, and skull to foreface ratio. Eyes more round than oval, with an enquiring expression and well set and used ears. Nice angulation front and rear, legs straight but quite fine in bone. Flexible pasterns and good feet. Could do with dropping a bit more in chest, but this will come with time. Moved well, with good reach at the front, allowing her to cover the ground with ease. One I’ve judged previously and pleased with how she’s maturing.
Bearded Collie Limit (2,1)
1st GWALLTAFWYN RHODD UNIGRYW VW, STEER-ELDRIDGE, MRS D – 9 y/o dog. Broad skull with good proportions to head and muzzle. Well set eyes and ears. Muscular neck of moderate length. Excellent angulation, with front legs straight on flexible pasterns and rear with good second thighs, well bent stifles and low hocks. Good oval shaped feet. Tail to hock. Held level topline on the move, with long-reaching strides, but carried head and tail a little high. RBOB
Bearded Collie Open (2,0)
1st ELTIMARIS JUBILEE HOORAH JW, PATTERSON, MRS J AND MR S - 4 y/o bitch. Feminine, well-proportioned head, good muzzle. Well set eyes and ears of correct shape and size. Slightly arched neck leading to a level topline and a long tail. Excellent angulation, well laid shoulders and correct length of upper arm creating the desired angle, with forelegs positioned vertically below the withers and flexible pasterns. The rear was complemented by being well muscled, with well bent stifles and hocks set low, again, creating the desired angles and vertical lines. Ribs well sprung, with good depth to chest. Coat was well fitting and of good length, but still showed daylight under the body. Moved with flowing long-reaching strides, perfectly balanced and holding her topline. BOB and G4
2nd IR CH KAKOS THE HAPPIEST DAYS OF GWALLTAFWYN JW, STEER-ELDRIDGE, MRS D – 4 y/o bitch. Good size to head and well set ears and eyes. Would prefer a little more length to her neck. Angulation ok, straight legs. Tail a little short. Moved ok, but didn’t quite hold her topline on the move, and wasn’t as smooth or balanced as 1st.

Nice masculine head with broad skull and square muzzle. Dark eyes gave an inquisitive yet gentle expression. Ears well set and of correct shape and size. 1st LIMASMYTHE LOKI, PINKARD, MISS G – 5 y/o dark male of good size. One I have judged previously and my opinion remains unchanged. Beautiful masculine head, strong muzzle on a broad skull, intelligent dark eyes and well set ears, sensitive in use and alert to everything going on. Excellent front angulation, with shoulder blades and upper arms of equal length, giving correct angulation and straightness to the legs, of good bone. Flexible pasterns and tight feet. Deep chested with well formed, long ribs. Back was of sufficient length to give the correct ratio, firm and well muscled. Hindquarters on this dog are the best I’ve seen, with upper and second thighs of equal length and well muscled. Hind legs stood parallel and straight when viewed from behind, with firm hocks and vertical pasterns. This allowed him to power around the ring with effortless reach from the front and drive from the rear. BOB and G2
