Sussex Spaniels

Many thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge Sussex Spaniels at this well organised and welcoming show.

Puppy (2, 0)

1st Marston’s Moel Ysgyfarnogod

8 month old male. I liked his overall picture, he looks masculine, balanced and has a pleasing amount of bone and substance. Stood squarely on well-padded feet, moved and carried himself well. He has a good head with a moderate curve and expression, well set ears along with a strong neck and sloping shoulders. Rear angulation is good. Eyes are the correct shape and will darken a little to complete the picture. Coat colour is coming on too. Was handled sympathetically to get the best out of him. BPIB.

2nd Moore & Howse’s Clwyd Fawr

Litter mate to 1st. Lovely happy boy, at I believe, his first show. Head has a moderate curve, eyes are well set, correctly shaped and paler hazel which will darken with age. Ears well set. He has shorter well boned legs and well-padded feet. Strong neck and well laid shoulders. Good rear angulation. He is a little low on pasterns which impacted his movement and I would like a little more length in foreleg to improve proportions. Not quite the development in body of the winner and lost out on movement, but he has time.

Junior (no entries)

Post Graduate (4, 1)

1st Marston’s Wollasbridge Barnaby

Lovely sized, promising youngster with good proportions giving a pleasing outline. Has good bone and substance and is developing nicely. Well laid shoulders, a strong neck and good tight, well padded feet. Head has a good shape showing both width and frown. He has well set, feathered ears and lovely correctly shaped, expressive hazel eyes. Moderate angulation both in front and rear with a strong loin and hind quarters. Good topline and tailset, moved very well and soundly around the ring. Well presented and in super coat in terms of colour and texture.

2nd Wyton’s Willowswalk Miss Sunshine Over Belbroughton

Lovely young bitch, finer in structure but still well off for bone and substance and is maturing beautifully. Head is feminine with good width and expression and has well set ears. Correctly shaped paler hazel eyes. Has a strong neck and stood squarely on tight feet. I liked her proportions and balance; having well laid shoulders and strong hindquarters with good angulation. Lovely coat texture and colour with golden highlights coming through. Moved well and soundly with drive, holding her topline, once she settled. Well presented and handled.

3rd Swietalski’s Bowswizzler Queen’s Guard

Open (5, 2)

1st Bradbury & Preston’s SH CH Harasteorra Big Bear JW

Impressive, good sized male with a lovely head and expression. Skull has width and a moderate curve with beautiful, tight hazel eyes exhibiting a kind expression. Ears set well. Has a strong neck and well laid shoulders. Has plenty of bone and is muscular throughout. Well sprung, deep ribs. Good tight, well-padded feet, strong loin and hindquarters. Exhibits a powerful drive when moving and did so soundly. Held topline throughout although tail carriage is a little high at times but this does not distract from the overall balanced picture which is of a dog with true substance. Lovely coat with the correct texture and colour. Pleased to award him BOB and thrilled to see him go Group 1 later in the day. Congratulations!

2nd Swietalski’s SH CH Fred Siop Ganol Into Bowswizzler

Masculine, good sized, well-proportioned mature male. Fabulous head, showing good width and expression with lovely hazel eyes. Ears set well and feathered, showing golden highlights. Well off for bone and substance and in great condition. Moderate in angulation with well laid shoulders, deep chest and ribs with a strong loin and hindquarters. Best coat colour today. He was certainly enjoying his day as his tail never stopped wagging and once settled he moved freely and powerfully around the ring, holding a level topline. Just lost out as not quite as settled on the move. RBOB.
