The Dobermann Club

Open Show – Sunday 31st May 2026

My sincere thanks go to the UK Dobermann Club for the invitation to judge at their Breed Club Open Show. It was a great honour and privilege to be entrusted with this appointment. I would also like to express my gratitude to all exhibitors who entered under me. Your support and confidence were very much appreciated, and I was genuinely touched by the entry at a time when entry numbers are sadly dwindling. Overall, I found the exhibits to be of a pleasing standard, with many quality dogs presented, making for some thoughtful and enjoyable decision-making. The sporting way the day was conducted, together with the friendly and welcoming atmosphere, contributed greatly to the occasion. Finally, my thanks go to the committee and all those who worked so hard behind the scenes to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the show.

Veteran Dog (2)

1st Wedgbury’s - Manzart War Emblem

Black male, 7 years old. A well-balanced, black masculine veteran who has matured into a most typical representative of the breed. Clean head of good length with pleasing expression. Sound front, good depth and firm topline, all well maintained for his age. Well-muscled hindquarters enabling him to move freely with drive, holding a level outline. Presented in good condition with a tight coat. Temperament steady and self-assured.

Delighted to award him Best Veteran In Show; a worthy winner on the day.

2nd Mcall’s - VIA Felicium Vettel JW (IMP RUS)

Black male 9 years old. A compact veteran who retains his breed type and overall quality. Masculine and well put together, with a typical head and keen expression. Good neck into a firm topline, and balanced angulation. Well-muscled and presented in good condition for his age. Moved soundly and with purpose, maintaining a steady outline. Just preferred the winner for overall finish on the day.

Minor Puppy Dog (1)

1st Kelly & Mycroft’s - Supeta’s Daredevil

A very promising brown youngster who appealed for his balance, outline and overall breed type. A clean, well-proportioned head with an alert expression. Good neck into a firm topline, well laid shoulders and balanced angulation throughout. Showing pleasing development for his age and presented in excellent condition. Moved freely and confidently, holding his shape well.

A nice boy with much to like and every indication of a bright future ahead. Delighted to award him my Best Puppy Dog and then Best Puppy In Show; a quality youngster who stood out on the day.

Junior Dog (1)

1st Black’s - Rosebebe I Am Here

Black male, stood alone, a very raw youngster who is still at an early stage of development. Shows some pleasing breed type with a nice developing outline and a typical head, carrying a kind expression. Good neck and adequate topline, with sufficient angulation. At present he lacks the finish and overall strength to complete the picture and will benefit from time and further maturity. On the move he was not always able to show himself to best advantage. Presented in good condition. With continued development and more ring experience, should improve.

Undergraduate Dog (0)

Post Graduate Dog (3 /1 Abs)

1st McCall & Broughton’s - Zinedine Zidane Elite House Del Diego (Imp Pol)

A smart young black male who presents a pleasing outline and shows confidence in the ring. Head of good strength and proportion with correct planes and typical expression. Clean neck into well-placed shoulders and a firm topline. Well-constructed in front with good depth and forechest, with correct tailset and tight feet. Would like to have seen slightly more angulation behind to complete the picture, however moved well with drive and presence and was awarded Reserve Best Dog

2nd Merchant’s - Krieger’s Mark Miwords At Mandareus

Masculine black dog of good type and balance. Pleasing head with correct planes, strong muzzle and dark eye. Soundly made in front with good depth and firm topline. Would prefer slightly more compactness in loin. Moved with reach and drive when settled, though not always making the most of himself. Was a close call between him and the class winner.

Limit Dog (3 /1 Abs)

1st Bishop’s - Korifey Heartbreak To Sacaria

This brown boy caught my eye the minute he walked into the ring. An honest well-balanced dog of correct size and substance, presenting a classic, refined outline. Clean, well-proportioned head with pleasing wedge shape, flat skull, well-filled foreface, strong underjaw and keen expression with dark, almond-shaped eyes. Good length of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders; correct front with straight forelegs, good bone and tight feet. Compact body with firm topline, well-sprung ribs and strong loin. Well-angulated, muscular hindquarters providing powerful drive. Moved freely and effortlessly with good reach and strong rear propulsion, maintaining a level topline. Shown in gleaming condition and handled to advantage.

A quality exhibit combining true breed type, sound construction and presence, pleased to have awarded him my Best Dog in show and then Best in Show.

2nd Reid’s - Dobshangrila Xavi (IKC)

A quality black male of good type and balance who made a pleasing overall impression. Well-proportioned head with good eye, giving a pleasing, alert expression. Clean neck into well-laid shoulders and a firm topline, with good bone and substance. Well-constructed throughout and presented in good condition. Moved soundly with reach and drive, covering the ground well. A dog with much to like who, on another day, could easily top the class, but just had the misfortune to meet a standout winner on this occasion.

Open Dog (2 /1 Abs)

1st Merchant’s - Cockneyoka Get Over it At Mandareus

A brown masculine dog (4 years old today) of fair type with a balanced head, correct eye and a typical outlook. Reasonably square in outline with adequate substance, standing on sufficient bone. Neck of fair length into a firm topline and correct tailset. On the move he was sound, showing to better advantage once settled. Stood alone in the class today and, while meeting the requirements, would be interesting to assess in stronger company.

Veteran Bitch (1)

1st Wilson’s – Granadeya Val Veny At Pursang

A dignified black veteran who still shows her quality. Feminine head with a lovely expression, clean lines and correct proportions. Though past her peak, she retains her elegance and a truly delightful temperament. Steady, willing and happy in her work. A pleasure to award the class, thank you for entering her.

Minor Puppy Bitch (1)

1st Harris’s – Ruholfia Diya (IKC)

A very feminine and elegant black young lady who immediately caught my eye on entering the ring. Lovely feminine head with pleasing expression, clean lines and a nicely developing outline for her age. Good topline, balanced proportions and good rear angulation which she used well once settled. Initially a touch unsettled and made her handler work, but once she found her rhythm she showed with confidence and style.

At just 7 months, she promises much for the future… pleased to award her my Best Puppy Bitch.

Puppy Bitch (3/1 Abs)

1st Boulton’s – Aritaur Roulette Red

A Smart brown youngster of lovely type, feminine yet with enough substance. Clean, balanced head with a bright, alert expression. Good length of neck into a firm topline which she held well. Straight front, tidy feet and developing forechest. Well-made rear with enough angulation to give her positive, purposeful movement. Shows confidence and attitude without overdoing it. A quality puppy with promise and a worthy class winner.

2nd Cannon’s – Supets’s Jazzylicious

A feminine young black bitch, attractive head with correct wedge shape and a bright, alert expression. Neck of good length into a level topline, which she holds well for her age. Straight front with tight feet and enough bone to mature on. Hindquarters still developing, showing moderate angulation at present, giving a slightly more upright rear, but entirely typical of a youngster still gaining strength. Was a bit unsettled making her handler work for it, nice puppy with type and scope to improve further as she matures.

Junior Bitch (3)

1st De Haaf’s – Krieger’s New Illusion JW LUX JCH

A young brown bitch I judged as a puppy, now developing exactly as hoped. Clean, feminine outline with balanced proportions and a refined head giving a soft, alert expression. Neck into well laid shoulders, firm topline and matched angulation, allowing her to move freely while holding her shape. Maturing well, showing increasing confidence and presence.

2nd Sharp & Goodall’s – Mianna Full Circle With Martifers

Feminine black youngster of pleasing type with a clean, balanced outline and a refined head of good proportions. Holds a firm topline with enough angulation to give a tidy, functional picture. Steady and honest on the move, maintaining her shape and working well with her handler. A sound, willing bitch who secured second in Junior and a well deserved win in Novice and a strong.

Yearling Bitch (1)

1st Bishop’s - Alkahest Sacaria (IMP ESP)

A feminine black bitch, presenting a clean topline and an adequately proportioned head with a pleasing expression when settled. Found the ring somewhat challenging today and was noticeably unsettled for her handler, which affected both her composure and the opportunity to fully assess her movement. When she did relax, she showed a more coordinated stride behind, though overall she did not make the most of herself.

Novice Bitch (2)

1st Sharp & Goodall’s – Mianna Full Circle With Martifers

2nd Cannon’s – Supets’s Jazzylicious

Undergraduate Bitch (0)

Post Graduate Bitch (3 /2 Abs)

1st Hutchinson’s – Supeta’s Debison’s Allure

A mature, feminine brown bitch with a clean outline and a well proportioned head. Stands over herself neatly with good ribbing and a firm topline. Hindquarters are tidy and well-muscled, giving her a steady, balanced action. Stood alone today but carries enough quality and finish to justify her placing.

Limit Bitch (0)

Open Bitch (3)

1st Trego’s – Lux Ch Amazon Breathless

A lovely black bitch I have liked for some time, previously awarding her BOB from Post Grad, she has matured exactly as expected. Feminine yet strong, with a clean, balanced outline, quality head and alert expression. Well-made forehand, firm topline and a powerful, well-angulated rear giving her effortless, ground-covering movement. True and purposeful throughout, she fully justified her class win, took Best Bitch In Show on overall correctness, and pushed hard to secure Reserve Best in Show.

2nd Tant’s – Rafthouse Bundlebrent At Granadeya JW

A nice brown bitch of pleasing type, presenting a clean, feminine outline with balance and good proportions. Attractive head with correct planes and an alert expression. Soundly made fore and aft, moving out freely and maintaining her shape on the go around. Just preferred the overall finish of the winner today, but she fully deserved Reserve Best Bitch for her correctness and honest, workmanlike movement.
