Breed: All Breed Open Show

Wath, West Moulton & District Canine Society, 28 February 2026

Thank you so much to the committee for their kind invitation to judge Hound breeds and the Hound Group at their open show. Whilst my own breeds are in the Pastoral Group, I have a passion for many of the Hound breeds and thoroughly enjoyed my day. Thank you so much to my 2 stewards for their hard work and keeping the ring running so smoothly and the exhibitors for their support on the day.

Rhodesian Ridgeback

P: (2) 1st Phillips’ Shakina Cotton Candy, 10-month-old red wheaten bitch. Lovely head with good width of flat skull, a well-defined stop and good muzzle. Good eye and well-set ears of medium size. Lovely outline with good length of neck, deep chest and level topline with slight arch over the loin. Well laid shoulder with enough return of upper arm with balanced hind angulation and well bent stifle. Lovely on the move. Best Puppy.

2nd Akers’ Carlincox Laters Taters, 8-month-old red wheaten bitch. A little finer in skull than the winner, but with good muzzle and lovely eye. Ears set high but a touch large at this time. Lovely neck and length of back with good angulation front and rear with straight front legs and well angulated rear. Balanced on the move.

PG: (6,3) 1st Akers’ Carlincox Knock Em Off JW, nearly 2-year-old red wheaten bitch. Lovely head, with skull and muzzle of equal length and good width of skull. Super eye and high-set ears of good size giving an alert expression. Lovely outline, with strong neck of good length, level back with good depth of chest. Well angulated front and rear with well set tail, and well arched toes. Balanced on the move, covering the ground with ease. Reserve Best of Breed.

2nd Phillips’ Shakina Bee Light In The Dark, 20-month-old red wheaten bitch. Super head on this girl with a flat, square skull and muzzle of equal length. Eye set well apart with high set ears carried close to the head. Good length of neck and back with good depth of chest and well sprung rib. Well laid shoulder but a touch steeper in upper arm and I would have preferred more bend of stifle. Balanced on the move.

3rd Nevison’s Bikquest Envy Blazingstar JW

O: (6,2) 1st Cox, Cox & Musgrave’s Carlincox Don’t Knock It JW, nearly 2-year-old red wheaten bitch and litter sister to the previous class winner, which may explain why my notes taken on the day were so very similar! Overall, she is very feminine and balanced with a lovely head with flat skull of good width, and good depth of muzzle. Eyes set well with high set ears of good size and shape giving an alert expression. Lovely outline with good length of neck and back with slight rise over the loin and gently sloping croup. Well laid-back shoulder and good return of upper arm, of equal length. Well arched, compact toes and straight forelegs. Well angulated rear with good bend of stifle and short rear pasterns. Powerful but effortless on the move. Best of Breed.

2nd Nevison’s Dabola Lola, 4-year-old red wheaten dog. Balanced head although I’d prefer a slightly stronger muzzle. Well set eye and ears and good width of skull. Good outline with a long neck, deep chest and level topline. Well laid shoulder but I’d prefer a touch more return of upper arm. Well angulated rear, although tail set a little high. Moved with ease.

J: (3,1) 1st Neilly & Moore’s Cloudside Whispering Angel, 17-month-old black bitch, just loved this young girl, there is so much to like. Head is long and clean without being narrow, with a flat skull and a strong muzzle of good width and equal in length to the skull, separated by a slight stop. Dark eye of good shape and set obliquely and low set ears carried close to the head. Super outline with no exaggeration with a long neck and level back, short loin and sloping croup. Chest is deep with moderate spring of rib. Angulation front and rear is superb with short rear pasterns, large feet and well arched toes. Coat developing nicely and is of good, fine texture. I loved watching her on the move, so effortless with head carried proudly and covering the ground so well. Delighted to award her not only this class and Best of Breed but also the Group. I believe this also gave her the final point for her Junior Warrant, well done and best of luck with her in the future.

2nd Moore’s Cloudside Black Hawk, 12-month-old black & tan dog from the same breeder, again with so much to like, I really was splitting hairs between these 2! Another with a super, typical square outline and balanced throughout. Very balanced head with a masculine expression. I preferred the eye shape on my winner, but they could so easily swap places. Reserve Best of Breed.

PG: 1st Neilly & Moore’s Cloudside Whispering Angel, as before

Moved with reach and drive with tail carried erect. Best Puppy and Reserve Best of Breed.

2nd Smith’s Poppyville Forever Dancing to Sanbryvale’s, 6-month-old tan & white dog, with plenty of promise. Good head properties with skull and muzzle of equal length, low set ears and a kind eye. J: (3) 1st Hardisty’s Blunderhall Jackson JW, 15-month-old tricolour dog. A lovely compact dog, just slightly longer than high. Masculine head with a slightly domed skull and good length of muzzle. Lovely dark eye, set well apart with low set ears just reaching the end of the nose. Firm neck of good length with a slight arch. Well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm with good bone and feet. Super outline with level back, good depth of chest and well sprung rib and short, firm loins. High set tail and well angulated rear. On the move was lovely going away and back and effortless in profile, keeping his topline well. Best of Breed.

2nd Dawson & Goodall’s Rundle Gambler, 13-month-old tan & white dog. A touch longer that the winner but has good leg to height ratios. Nice head with a well-shaped skull but slightly shorter in muzzle. Well set ears of good length and soft eye. Well laid-back shoulder but I’d prefer more return of upper arm which gave him a shorter stride on the move.

PG: (2,1) 1st Dawson & Goodall’s Rundle Gambler, as before

Eyes a touch rounder than I’d prefer but well-set ears. Enough neck and back of good length but a touch too deep in chest. Well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm but a touch shorter than ideal. Moved ok, but with a slightly roached topline.

2nd Sexton’s Casadesuenos Thalia Tynkastales, 2-year-old black & tan bitch. Skull and muzzle are of equal length, but I’d prefer more fill in foreface. Well set eyes and ears, but the eye is a touch fuller than I’d prefer. Good length of neck but I’d prefer more length of back and a more level topline. Well angulated front and rear but also a roached topline on the move.
