South of England Gundog Club

Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge at their show and for trusting me to pick up some extra breeds for a judge who wasn’t able to attend. Overall the quality across the breeds was good, only hindered by a few of the larger breeders struggling with the flooring. A special thank you to my two stewards who kept the ring flowing with high spirits. 

German Shorthaired Pointer

1st Manser’s MISTCAPLE TEASEL MEADOW

10 month old bitch, developing as would be expected at this age. Clean headpiece with dark eye of correct shape. Well boned throughout with tidy feet. Strong in top line which was maintained on the move with correct tail set. Steady mover, covering the ground with clean action. Standing alone but pleased to award them BPIB.

1st Joy’s SEASHAM THRILL ME AT MANNLICHER

14 month old bitch, scissor bite. Correct eye of good colour. Well angled fore and after. Strong top line, maintained on move. Steady mover covering the ground with clean action. At the junior stage currently with plenty of time on her side.

5 year old bitch, dark eye of good shape. Clean headpiece with good reach of neck, well angled throughout. Ample bone for size. Balanced throughout without exaggeration. Shown in firm condition and covering the ground with reach and drive. Pleased to award her BOB.

5 year old bitch, scissor bite. Dark eye of good shape. Pleasing headpiece. Well boned throughout with tidy feet. Another pleasing exhibit who was shown in fit condition with strong top line and clean action on the move. Pleased to award her RBOB.

1st O’kelly & Hancock’s COOLFIN THE ECSTASY OF GOLD AT CARADILIS 

21 month old athletic bitch, scissor bite, alert in expression, ears set well. Good angulation with well laid shoulders. Enough bone throughout, strong top line which was maintained on the move. Would like tidier feet. Honest mover with good reach and drive, covering the ground with clean action. Pleased to award her BOB.

1st Hartley’s ROJOY MELODY ROSE 

9 month old bitch, scissor bite, clean muzzle with dark eye of good shape. Ears well set, good length to neck. Well angled fore and after with compact body. Most together at this stage and once settled moved well with clean action covering the ground with ease. BPIB

2nd Warrington’s CHEZZA’S ALL BECAUSE OF YOU ZAKOVA

9 month old B&T bitch, scissor bite. Dark eye of good shape, enough stop and brow to give typical expression. Well boned throughout with good angulation fore and after. Tidy feet. Slightly heavy today but maintained top line and covered the ground with clean effortless action.

1st Hutton-Baber’s BABTONKELPIE GALLY QUEEN JW 

Lovely young bitch, just out of junior. Clean headpiece with kind expression. Good length to neck with well laid shoulders. Top line firm and well angled rear with good bone throughout. Working well with handler to show herself at her best with clean effortless action. Pleased to award her BOB. 

2nd Gregory’s BABTONKELPIE TROLLEY DOLLY 

Found out when doing my write up that this bitch is litter sister to class winner and she carries many of the same qualities. Clean eye of good shape and colour. Well angled through out with firm top line. Covered the ground with clean action.

1st Covington’s DELIGHTFUL HUNTER LEGENDARY AT SILVERDUST JW

2 year old dog, scissor bite, clean dark eye. Head well developed to give good expression and clean lines. Well angled throughout with good length to neck and strong top line. Sound in movement, covering the ground with clean action. Pleased to award RBOB. 

2nd Rofe’s VILLASPINIOL GOLD FLASH 

Gold male, full of life. Scissor bite, clean eye of good colour. Heavier in type throughout than 1. Good reach to neck, onto well laid shoulders. Firm top line. Super eager in his movement which let him down as he wasn’t using his reach and drive to cover the ground but this could be down to the flooring coupled with his eagerness.

1st Hutton-Baber’s ESQUEEN FOLLOWING STAR AT BABTONKELPIE (IMP POL) JW

5 year old black bitch, scissor bite. Clean dark eye of good shape. Clean headpiece set onto neck of good lengh and well laid shoulders. Strong top line which was maintained on the move with good tail set. Steady mover once settled, covering the ground with clean action. 

2nd Warrington’s ZAKOVA WISE GUY JW 

Black dog, scissor bite, clean headpiece with good length to neck. Larger in type than 1 but quality male, presented in gleaming condition. Well made throughout and covered the ground with clean action and working well with handler to get the most from him.

10 month old male, scissor bite. Eye of good shape. Level top line and good angulation to rear with tidy feet. Oversized and not together at this stage which showed in his untidy movement which wasn’t aided by the flooring. BP

1st Jennings WALLAROO RED DWARF

Junior bitch, scissor bite. Well boned throughout for size, however slightly bum high at this stage but has time on her side. Steady mover, with ample reach and drive and good tail carriage.

1st Anderson’s GIFT OF THE GAB JW 

2 year old bitch who I have judged previously. Scissor bite, clean balanced headpiece without excess. Good length to neck and well angled fore and after. Ample bone for size and tidy feet. Strong top line which was maintained on the move. Steady mover covering the ground with effortless action. Pleased to award her BOB and hear she ended the day going Best in Show, congratulations. 

2nd Jenning’s WALLAROO ROMEO JW 

4 year old male, scissor bite. Clean eye of good shape and colour. Good reach to neck. Well angled fore and after with ample bone throughout. Tidy feet and sound mover, covering the ground with clear reach and drive. Pleased to award him RBOB. 

Junior Handling 6-11 years

1st Leah Sharp 

Confident young handler who listened to and followed instructions well. Fearless attitude and I am sure she will have a bright future within this sport. Worked well with her charge and was considerate of them at all times. 

Junior Handling 12- 16 years

1st Keira Clark 

Calm and confident young handler, especially when her dog was spooked by the ringing from the tannoy just as she stood them. Calmed the dog and regained composure without fuss. Then went on to handle them with calm dignity to get the best from them. Well done. 

Senior Handling 50 + 

1st Julie Woodhams 

Calm flowing action from moment the stepped in the ring, getting the most from their dog and allowing the dog to take the spot light. God the best out of their dog in a calm and relaxed manner, well done. 

2nd Caroline Gammon

Another competent handler, with great attention to detail, getting the most from their charge with a calm attitude which lead to a settled dog, showing itself at its best.
