Well, what can I say? When you get a phone call from the secretary, just as we set off on the morning of the show, asking if rather than exhibit, would I judge Best in Show for her as the scheduled judge has been taken ill. So, a quick turn back to the house to change and grab my cape and we were back on the road.
Thank you to all the exhibitors for accepting me as a replacement for Lorraine Bolton and I am sure you will all join me in hoping she has recovered.
Some super line ups for top awards put through by the group judges.
Best in Show
Jones’ Laserna Captain Crash JW – Jack Russell Terrier. This 20mth D may have been the smallest in the lineup but he has the biggest personality. Beautifully made fore and aft and of correct proportions and carrying a lovely jacket. On the move his is eye catching, free and true with plenty of drive and attitude. But today, among some strong competition, he could not be denied top spot.Reserve Best in Show -
Moore & James’ Starnewf Mr Dark Sky JW – Newfoundland. Another young dog, just 2yrs, who fills the eye. Lovely shape and size and carrying a nice coat. Well made fore and aft with a firm topline. Deep well sprung ribs. On the move he is free and effortless with good reach and drive.
Best Puppy in Show
Davies & Honey’s Blue Blood Ambassador Way To Rock with Waterley (Imp SVK) NAF TAF – Tibetan Terrier. 10mth B/W B. Another who caught my eye. Presenting a lovely outline on the stand, Feminine all through but with strength of body I don’t often find in TTs. Pleasing head with dark eyes, well made fore and aft and on the move, she is so true, effortless and confident.
Reserve Best Puppy in Show
Hopkins Navratilova’s Dynar Sun King – Samoyed. 9mth D. This young dog impressed me in the BIS lineup and I thought he was going to take top honours here until the TT stepped up. Loved his overall shape and size, lovely head with dark pigment. Has presence both on the stand and on the mover where he uses his correct construction to benefit, true fore and aft with correct reach and drive in profile.
Best Veteran in Show
Stokes’s Jaspalie Exceedingly Diva at Madsovtik - Poodle (Standard). 7yr White B. Very close between the top two but this young lady pulled out the stops especially on the move. Lovley head, well made fore and aft and sporting a crisp clean coat. Still is lovely condition and moved round the ring true and free with lovely drive.
Reserve Best Veteran in Show
Pullen’s Meadowbears Master of Music – Old English Sheepdog. 7yr D. The OES cannot be called a flashy breed and you need to get your hands on to appreciate them. This boy is one who when you get hands on and watch him move it all falls into place. Lovely to go over, well made and in good condition. On the move his sound and true.Best RBIS in Show
Dyer’s Waterley Easy On The Eye JW - Tibetan Terrier. 2yr B/W B. Loved her typical shape, lovely to go over, well made all through with well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm, matching rear angles and carrying a good coat. Easy and true with good reach and drive.

Dalmatian
Puppy (2,0)1st Simpson’s Castletop Oud and Obsidian. 11mth B/W. A well made youngster with a masculine head & dark eyes. Well laid shoulders and some forechest, straight front with good bone and tidy feet. Liked his spring of rib and depth of chest. Short loin to a well angled rear. Steady mover with correct tail set and carriage. BP
2nd French’s Tamilanda Golden Snitch. Just 6mth D and very much a baby. Wasn’t too confident today but very promising. Pleasing head and well laid shoulders with enough forechest. Good bone and neat feet. Good spring of rib under correct topline. Moved true.
Post Graduate (4,2) 1st Burke’s Hafwenna Mother of Dragons at Dintradot. 3yr B/W B. Very fine and lacking substance. Feminine head with lovely dark eyes, good length of neck into well laid shoulders, straight front & neat feet. I would like a bit more depth of brisket but she has a good topline and lovely rear angles. Better mover of the two with good reach and drive.
2nd Wooton & Gardinor’s Hebemor Adonis Blue by Dakata. 3yr heavily spotted masculine D. Pleasing head but has rather open angles fore and aft. Good bone with neat feet and well muscled all through. High tail set and carriage. His angles hindered his movement causing a lack of reach and drive.
Open (4,0) 1st Penn’s Dalfellin Agape at Dalarisa. 5yr B/W feminine B of good overall type. Pleasing head with dark eyes, well set ears. Well made forequarters with well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm, straight front with good bone and tidy feet. 2nd Burke’s Hafwenna The Red Viper at Dintradot. 3yr B/W D. Another of good shape and type with pleasing head of good shape with dark eyes and well set ears. Good front angulation, preferred the forechest of 1st. He had a good spring of rib and depth of chest, level back and correct rear angles. On the move he is true with reach and drive, just not the presence of the winner. RBOB

1st Rice’s Tibetan Spaniel. These two set a very high bar. Very similar to look at, but on the move, they did not put a paw wrong, always side by side and so often moving in sync.
