EAST OF ENGLAND LADIES KENNEL SOCIETY – 21 JULY 2026

JUDGE: PAULINE LUXMOORE-BALL

I would like to thank the committee of the East of England Ladies Kennel Society for inviting me to judge Pointers, together with the Best in Show, Best Puppy in Show and Best Veteran in Show.

The show was extremely well organised, with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere throughout the day. It was lovely to see exhibitors enjoying their dogs, with all decisions accepted in such a sporting manner. My thanks also go to my efficient stewards, whose assistance helped the day run so smoothly.

The quality of the dogs in my final line-ups was excellent. In several cases I was splitting hairs between exhibits, with only the smallest details separating the eventual winners. The Best in Show line-up in particular was exceptionally strong, with several exhibits that could easily have been worthy winners on another day. It is always a privilege to judge quality dogs, and I thoroughly enjoyed my day.

Thank you once again to the committee for their hospitality and to all the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to assess their dogs.

POINTERS

PUPPY (2, 0)

1st 142 – Brooksmith’s Sharnphilly Lyrical

Bitch. 11 months. Black & White. Feminine head and expression. Nice feet and bone. Good croup with sufficient forechest. A little close going away but an easy profile gait with good drive. Best Puppy in Breed & Reserve Best of Breed.

2nd 144 – Irshad’s Droveborough Super Trooper

Dog. 9 months. Liver & White. Has a great deal to like, although his head is still developing. Good feet. Well muscled with good reach on the move.

POST GRADUATE (2, 0)

1st 143 – Dunnett’s Alcazar Excalibur

4-year-old dog. Black & White. Balanced and in proportion. Nice croup and feet. Could lift a little in front on the move but everything else is here. Once settled he covered the ground well in profile. Best of Breed.

2nd 146 – Robson’s Codnorhawk Dinky Stta at Bradgate

7-year-old bitch. Nice dark eyes. Good feet. Sharper angulation than 1 but balanced. Would prefer a better layback of shoulder. Moved adequately in profile.

1st 143

Previously critiqued, but performed better in this class, showing less lift on the move and demonstrating that he simply needed to settle.

2nd 141 – Brooksmith’s Nightgold Pipkin

9-year-old bitch. Lovely make and shape with good bone and muscle. Didn’t always make life easy for her handler today, but it was lovely to see such attitude in an older girl.

3rd 145 – Robson’s Bradgate Until Dusk

The handler worked hard to get the best from this bitch today and deserves credit for presenting her to advantage.

AV MINOR PUPPY DOG

1st 533 – Pullen’s Meadowbears Master Of Magic (Old English Sheepdog)

7 months. Lovely outline and well muscled. Super in profile. Nice head and overall balance. Clean out and back. Very promising.

2nd 435 – Ferretti’s Lyrvid The Last Bit Of Cash (Siberian Husky)

Balanced and in proportion. Foxy head. Tight feet. Moderate angulation. Easy gait. Just needs a little more body and maturity.

AV MINOR PUPPY BITCH

1st 399 – Handley’s Leebren Place Your Bette (Schnauzer)

Beautiful head and expression with a nice dark eye. Good feet, bone and croup. Lovely profile movement.

2nd 65 – Picton & Ince’s Jolihem Truly Scrumptious (Rhodesian Ridgeback)

Balanced and well muscled. Nice tight feet. Feminine head and expression. Good bone and croup. Moved well in profile.

3rd 20 – Taverner’s Cheritondax Marsanne At Tavertekal (Dachshund (Miniature Long-Haired))

PUPPY DOG

Two lovely puppies that could easily swap places on another day.

1st 237 – Saunders’ Aylesmead Just The Tikkit At Oxfordogs (Cocker Spaniel)

Nice balance with a good head and expression. Free-moving in profile with good reach and drive. Nice bone and feet. Good croup. Carrying good muscle condition and moved parallel away.

2nd 531 – Mann’s Vandreem Imperial Linken (Samoyed)

10 months. Lovely head and expression. Just a touch loose in front at the minute. Drives nicely from the rear. Will watch with interest.

PUPPY BITCH

Another close decision where they could easily swap places on another day.

1st 449 – Williams, Kudo & Kiyoi’s (Portuguese Water Dog)

Balanced and in proportion. Nice dark eye. Good angulation front and rear. Nice feet. Carrying good muscle for a baby and moved cleanly out and back.

2nd 358 – Kernick’s Hope Dreams Come True (Poodle (Standard))

Beautiful head and expression. Super profile gait. Well turned out and handled. Apricot.

3rd 491 – Walker’s Aldredelie Ancient Ruins (Collie (Rough))

BEST IN SHOW

Best in Show – 406 – Timms’ Olijah Striptease (French Bulldog)

Superb example of the breed, full of breed type from nose to tail. Powerful yet compact, whilst retaining unmistakable femininity, something I particularly admired. Typical broad skull with the correct dark, expressive eyes and well carried ears giving the characteristic French Bulldog expression. Well ribbed with a strong topline and excellent hindquarters. Moved with purpose, retaining her outline at all times and showing the free, sound action called for in the breed. A worthy Best in Show.

Reserve Best in Show – 527 – Cowley’s Ch Kashbeluli There We Are Then JW ShCEx OSW (Hungarian Puli)

An excellent example of the breed, presented in beautiful natural cords which enhanced, rather than disguised, a balanced outline. Square, compact and athletic, with the correct proportions and plenty of substance. Confident, intelligent temperament and never stopped showing. Light, effortless movement with the characteristic lively action of the breed. Pushed hard for the top award and a thoroughly deserving Reserve Best in Show.

Best Puppy in Show – 406 – Timms’ Olijah Striptease (French Bulldog)

Reserve Best Puppy in Show – 84 – Callow’s Whittimere Spexy Beast (Norwegian Elkhound)

Very typical youngster with the correct square outline and balanced proportions. Masculine without exaggeration, with an attractive head, dark eye and alert expression. Good bone and feet with well developed quarters for his age. Moved soundly with an easy, economical stride, covering the ground well. A puppy with a very promising future.

BEST VETERAN IN SHOW

Best Veteran in Show – 303 – Burrage’s Ch Komidion Prima Donna Of Sametova ShCEx VW (Cesky Terrier)

A lovely veteran who demonstrated exactly why soundness and correct construction never go out of fashion. Long, low and well balanced with the correct rectangular outline, carrying excellent muscle and condition. Attractive head with typical expression and shown in excellent coat. Moved with reach and drive, retaining a firm topline throughout. Showed many of the youngsters how it should be done!

Reserve Best Veteran in Show – 511 – Mettan-Ure’s Valdosta Dare To Dream Of Savendie (Shetland Sheepdog)

Elegant, beautifully balanced and full of breed type. Lovely refined head with the characteristic sweet expression so essential in the breed. Correct outline with good neck and well laid shoulders, allowing free, effortless movement. Never stopped showing and carried herself with style throughout. A lovely veteran.

RESERVE BEST OF BREED IN SHOW

Reserve Best of Breed in Show – 548 – Boutle’s Applebroad Pink Lady JW (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel)

A feminine, beautifully balanced Cavalier of excellent breed type. Soft, melting expression with large dark eyes, well cushioned foreface and correct head proportions. Good ribbing and excellent topline. Moved with elegance and freedom, maintaining a beautiful outline throughout. She stood out in a particularly strong Reserve Best of Breed line-up.
