My thanks 1st goes to the society for inviting me to judge at their show, being held for the 1st time at this new venue, a venue that the committee agreed needs some re-arranging in the future for a better layout, but they day did run well. My ring was a great size for the breeds I was judging, but it felt a little isolated from the rest of the show (this was the committee’s findings as well). Thanks to my 2 great stewards for keeping the ring running so smoothly and last, but def not least, to all of those that trusted me to judge their dogs on the day, there was a great atmosphere from all around the ring and all my placings were accepted with dignity on the day. With the venue being quite open there was a strong wind blowing across the ring, that unsettle a few, but all dogs seemed to cope with the difficult conditions, although some of the longer haired exhibits were having bad hair days.

2 Y/Old dog of good overall size. Good, strong broad head, almond shaped dark eyes. Small well-proportioned ears. Strong neck into strong chest and well-muscled legs, good shoulder angles. Just enough slope on topline, but good for length. Good moderate bend of stifle into well let down hocks, good muscle throughout and good feet throughout, nice plume of tail. Quite unsettled on the move, with drive not fully expressed on this occasion. BOB and a solid Group 4.

15month very feminine Brindle Bitch, with good head with required slight arch, eyes and ears giving a good overall look. Good length of neck that arched nicely into shoulders and chest, which was of good depth. Back straight with correct slope, just a little longer than I would have liked. Good length of thighs with correct angles throughout the rear, covered the ground with ease. BoB and looked good to take a Group2
2nd Catling’s Lottalove Nordic Gypsy King
15month Dark Brindle Dog, everything feminine of 1 this boy was its opposite in masculine, another nice head, maybe just slightly flatter than 1, correct stop, correct shape and placement of ears and very appealing eyes. Another good strong neck with nice shoulders and well boned front, really nice deep chest, straight and sloping topline, again, just a little longer cast that I’d like. Well-muscled rear, just not the turn of stifle of 1, good rear feet, front just a little too big. Another than moved well, pushed 1 really hard and on another day, I could easily have reversed the placing

7 Y/Old Fawn Bitch, with a good overall picture, good arch of head and moderate size ear, well placed. Neck shorter than both in Junior, giving the look of more strength, but still in proportion, good arch to ribs and fore legs straight, with nice pasterns. Topline straight with correct slope and shorter backed and good tuck. Good set of tail and well-muscled rear, god turn of stifle with good placement under hips and strong stifles, feet good front and rear, just unfortunately a little wide in rear, which transferred to the movement. 11-month Grey/White Bitch with a nice overall appearance, just a little shorter legged than I would like. Good head, with well placed, good sized and nice arched ears, good oblique, almond eyes and stop not nicely sloping, giving good expression. Good arch to neck and shoulder angles. Front legs parallel and straight, again, just not quite the correct height ratios. Oval ribs giving good spring, level topline and nice tuck, with croup sloping nicely over rear into a good turn of stifle. Best mover on the day. BP and RBoB. Puppy Group1 and on to take res Best Puppy in Show
2nd Samuels’ Clahetro Big Bang at Hazylights
11-month Red/white Dog from same litter as 1, similar appearance but a little longer in leg, another nice head, with well-placed medium ears, good oblique eye, just a little narrower, medium length of neck and good shoulder angles. Forelegs parallel and closer together than 1 making for better reach, front feet just a little long, loosing that oval shape. Ribs oval, with good spring into slightly shorter back, unfortunately just dips a little too much on the stand, causing loin to rise too much. Nice turn of stifle into well-defined hocks, just tending to stand a little too cow-hocked for my liking, put on another good show on the move.
Junior (2-1)
1st Winter Melody Not that Dramatic Yet at Hazylights (Imp Pol)
18-month Grey/White Bitch with some good qualities, just maybe again a little short in leg. Erect well placed ears, may be just a little big, appealing expression from dark eye, almond and obliquely set. Good definition and angle of slope to stop. Nice length of neck with good arch and shoulder angles, good front legs, parallel and well set, good oval shape and well sprung ribs. Level topline but does sometimes manage to show a dip on the stand, good arch of the loins, showing a good tuck up. Turn of stifle, definition of hocks and parallel rear, giving free flowing movement, excellent reach and drive, movement eventually shining through and could not resist giving BOB, well handled

2nd Samuels’ Winter Melody Bit Too Dramatic at Hazylights (Imp Pol)
23-month Red/White Bitch, unfortunately length to height and height split ratios a little to much. Better shaped head than 1, not so much fill in cheek, nice shape ears, just a little too wide. Again, another pleasing expression from the eyes, which were well set and good shape. Good length of neck and correct shoulder placement. Front legs, well-spaced and parallel, just a little short. Good spring of rib, but just a little too round, as already mentioned with overall length being too much, this effected the topline, that just wasn’t quite held level, nice rise over loin and slope of croup, good turn of stifle and upright hocks, just tends to stand just a little cow hocked, but moved really well.

1st Samuels’ Lyfearon Have I Gone Mad at Hazylights
5 Y/old grey/white Dog, with a good shape of head, well placed ears and oblique set eyes, stop just a little too upright, good arch of neck, ribs a little too round, which affected the positioning of front legs. Level topline, but just tends to slope too much toward rear, nice tuck up, with good turn of stifle and shape of hock, allowing good rear movement, but when coming toward front movement was just a bit too wide.

7-Month Tri Bitch of pleasing overall appearance, very nice, strong domed head, good size and placement of eyes, correct proportions with stop dividing planes, would just like stop to be a little more pronounced. Well placed ears, of good size for age. Adequate length of neck, good front angles and height proportions, front legs straight, parallel into nice short pasterns. Nice spring of rib of good length, topline not quite level, but hopefully will come with age. Good turn of stifle with plenty of muscle hocks correct and parallel at rear, really nice rear feet.
Junior (3-1)
1st Rushforth’s Charterwood Speciality of Campionfield
1 Y/old Tan/White Bitch. Liked her head, good dome, a more pronounced stop that split proportions well, hazel eye with good placement, good size ears. Plenty of reach in neck with a nice arch. Strong front, chest below elbow and with good spring, held a good level topline. Nice turn of stifle will plenty of muscle. An overall nice package. Was a little unsettled when started out on the move, but brought it together nicely and this won her the class and BOB
2nd Coates’ Gladstyle Frankly My Dear
7-Month Tri Dog, litter mate of Puppy, I felt was even better than his sister. Another nice head, but like sibling I would have like a little more definition of the stop, domed skull, well laced eyes, dark and good placement, plenty of ear, also well placed, well loaded front, legs just slightly turning out on stand, compact, well spung chest, just not quite reaching below elbow, shorter coupled than rest and again topline not quite level. Good turn of stifle, hocks firm and parallel. Much more together on the move than his sister and a better overall package, earning him BP. Was a shame he wasn’t in the puppy group

2 Y/old Tri Dog, with nice head proportions, stop intersects for good division of length, defined, but would like a little more to give the head the overall outline, good-sized ears, well placed. Good length of neck, with well held arch, nice front, but would just like a little more length of upper arm, to have the front legs slightly more under, good spring of rib and extend nicely, level topline and good couplings. Nice muscular thighs, with a good turn of stifle. Moved well, but was just pipped by the Junior winner overall, still a quality RBoB

6-Month raw, sinewy, grey Bitch, with lots to look forward to, head with nice length and correct width of skull. Ears of good size, eyes oval and dark, muzzle angles well, giving head a pleasing overall shape. Good arch of neck strong front, that will improve even more with age, nice deep chest and long back, with startings of a good tuck. Long rear, with good bend of stifle, thighs showing good sign of muscling up, moved like a dog just starting out showing and I’m sure will improve when fully muscled and boned up. BPIB

19- Month Grey lovely Bitch, head of good proportions, nice oval dark eyes and rose shaped ears, well set on head. Good long neck, with good arch. Well angled and muscled shoulders with straight foreleg, would just like elbows to be a little more set under chest. Nice deep, broad chest into loins arching up nicely, well-muscled rear, perhaps could do with just a little more turn to stifles. Moved really well, covering the ground with ease. As with all larger breeds, maybe needs just a little more maturing to finish the overall package.
Open (3-1)
My open class was 2 outstanding examples of the breed, loved them so much I had to photograph them both together

4 Y/old black Bitch, oozing quality. Head and skull of good length and width, eyes dark and a good shape, ears finishing off the look with correct shape and placement. Strong neck and fore chest, shoulders muscular and with a deep, broad chest down into strong front legs. Good length of back, loins creating a good outline, good bend of stifle, hocks strong and well let down, legs parallel front and rear. Great shape to feet and a nice long tail, carried well on the move. Effortless, powerfully movement around the ring, just making it all look too easy, pipping my 2nd place on the overall movement, BOB, Group 1 and on to a very well deserved Best in Show
2nd Webb & Shepherd’s Killoughery Mission Two for Inkleyboys JW
3 Y/old grey Dog, just a pleasing overall as 1st, with some features that were a little better in places. Another nice head for length and width of skull, good dark eyes and ears, when not being buffeted by the wind today, of good size and shape. Powerful neck into deep chest and breast, strong shoulders, elbows well under, best placement of the day. Good length of back, carrying the powerful look into really good turn of stifle and strong hocks, long tail and feet of good size and shape. Really pushed 1st hard, but just not quote covering the ground with the same ease. RBoB
