Soft Coat Wheaten Terriers

Firstly, thank you to the Committee of the Coventry & Nuneaton DKA for inviting me to judge SCWT’s at this extremely friendly and well organised show. Many thanks to my very efficient ring stewards Nicola and Elaine. Finally, thank you to the exhibitors for the sporting way in which they accepted my decisions. All exhibits were pleasing to the eye on presentation with soft, silky coats of loose waves or large, loose curls of differing shades of ripening wheat. Dentition was good throughout. All exhibits a credit to their owners, lovely temperaments.

Puppy (4/1a)

1. Francis’ Denzilly Making Waves With Sawheaten.  A well balanced and compact 10mth male, who certainly made waves in the ring today! Quality masculine head, flat skull of medium width, good ear placement. Jaws strong with complete scissor bite. Good depth of chest. Moderate length of neck running into well laid-back shoulders. Correct spring of rib. Level topline kept on the move, short coupling. Good angulation at both ends, well-muscled rear & bend of stifle enabling positive rear drive and ease of movement around the ring. Pleased to award BP. I was delighted this puppy was subsequently awarded TPG2 in a very strong group of puppies.

2. Fallon’s Snowmeadow Uncle Ugo at CrofftySofty. Another well-balanced and compact 8mth male. Masculine head, correct stop and complete scissor bite. Correct depth of chest and ribs well spung. Good length of neck leading into good lay of shoulder. Level topline on the move. Many qualities as exhibit 1 above. Moved out well but preferred movement of number 1 on the day. I am sure these puppies will change places on another day.

3. Jefferies’ Snowmeadow Una Ulisse

Post Graduate (3/1a)

1. Fallon’s CrofftySofty Bee Yonce. An extremely attractive 23mth bitch. Feminine head proportions and presents a very pleasing and balanced outline. Neat ears and expressive of eye. Good length of neck into well-laid shoulders with level topline maintained on the move, short coupled. Lovely front, good depth of chest & spring of rib. Good rear angulation and bend of stifle, moving out well with reach and drive. Great tailset. Pleased to award RBOB.

2. John’s Dohoci Cariad. A lot to like about this 23mth bitch. Pleasing feminine head, well placed ears. Beautiful dark hazel eyes and rims. Jaws strong with complete scissor bite, large brilliant white teeth. Lovely coat developing nicely. Good length of neck into laid back shoulders. Level topline on the move, short coupled. Enough rear angulation but lacked enthusiasm for movement on the day.

Open (5/3a)

1. Herbert’s Saffini Smooth Operator at Julibidd. A balanced 5yr old male of correct height. Masculine powerful head, correct stop with lovely dark hazel eyes, tidy ears and large black nose. Jaws strong and punishing, complete scissor bite. Good depth of chest, & spring of rib, short coupled. Good length of neck to well laid shoulders. A well bodied dog, good angulation front & aft and bend of stifle, well-muscled to rear. This exhibit exudes confidence in the ring, maintaining level topline on the move, moving out soundly with reach and drive. Pleased to award BOB. This exhibit was subsequently awarded TG2 to my delight.

2. Amel-Azizpour’s Crofftysofty Hay Jude. A pleasing 3 yr old male, well balanced in profile. Good head proportions with correct stop, dark hazel eyes. Good depth of chest and length of neck leading into well placed shoulders, good spring of rib. Maintained level topline on the move, short coupling and good bend of stifle. Enough angulation both ways, hindquarters strong. Steady movement, but would like to see more reach and drive.
