Northern Cairn & West Highland White Terrier Club

The Northern Cairn and West Highland White Terrier Club Open Show

Saturday 4th April 2026

Judge: Miss N Foster (Thozow)

I would like to thank the committee for the opportunity to judge Best in Show at this lovely event. Over my judging career I have had the pleasure of judging both breeds, so it was an honour to take centre stage for the final judging. My thanks also go to both breed judges for sending through such quality exhibits, making my decisions both enjoyable and challenging.

Best in Show

26. Burneze Maid to Measure – Mrs A & Miss M Burns (West Highland White Terrier)

Entered the ring full of confidence and attitude, presented in an immaculate jacket and shown to perfection. Feminine yet strong in head, with a pleasing expression, dark eye and neat, well-placed ears. Beautiful straight front with good bone, depth of brisket and well-sprung ribs carried well back. Compact body with a firm, level topline and strong, muscular hindquarters. Tail correctly set and carried, completing a balanced outline. Moved freely around the ring with positive reach and drive, holding her topline throughout. A quality exhibit who demanded attention and fully deserved this award.

Reserve Best in Show

19. Brenndarcy Dreamer – Miss B Shannon & Mr D Storr (Cairn Terrier)

A bitch I have judged previously, and it was pleasing to see how she has matured. Not in her best jacket on the day, but her quality and breed type could not be denied. Well-balanced throughout with a typical head, dark eye and neat, small ears giving a keen expression. Medium length of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, level topline and correct tail set. Good rear angulation and strong quarters. Moved soundly and purposefully, covering the ground well. A very honest Cairn Terrier with much to admire.

Best Puppy in Show

32. Ashgate Falkirk – Mrs S Thompson (West Highland White Terrier)

One you really need to get your hands on to fully appreciate. A very promising youngster with so much to like. Super head with a strong muzzle, dark eye and neat, well-placed ears. Well developed across the skull and correctly proportioned throughout. Pleasing length of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders with adequate upper arm. Good spring of rib, strong loin and powerful hindquarters with plenty behind the tail. Presented in a correct double coat and shown in excellent condition. Moved freely and confidently with plenty of drive. A puppy with a bright future ahead of him.

Reserve Best Puppy in Show

17. Lindcoly Nessa Shanessa – Miss K Saich (Cairn Terrier)

A typical Cairn puppy full of personality and character. Feminine head with an alert expression, dark eye and neat, small pointed ears. Good body proportions with correct length of body and overall balance. Soundly constructed with a firm topline and correct tail carriage. Moved well around the ring with confidence and enthusiasm, showing herself well throughout.

Best Veteran in Show

22. Airytykes Excuse Me – Ms R Tester (Cairn Terrier)

Stood alone for the award but proved a worthy winner. Typical Cairn head with dark eye, keen expression and correct dentition. Straight front, good bone and a firm, level topline. Well-set tail completing the outline. Retaining good muscle tone and condition, she moved freely around the ring, covering the ground with ease and showing plenty of enthusiasm. A credit to her owner and a fine example of a veteran still enjoying her day in the ring.
