It was a day for the youngsters with some really impressive puppies about to embark on exciting Junior/Adult show careers. The winner was a most impressive Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy, Hidges’ Colkeririn To The Nines JW. Likely to be her last puppy show and she is maturing into a really beautiful hound and so exciting on the move. 2nd spot went to another puppy Randall’s Black & Tan Coonhound, Penner Lodge Melissa Officinalis at Celestiaries (imp Italy). In 3rd spot the young Dachshund (Min Long-Haired) just out of puppy, Bell’s Indiko Cast In Cream at Tolberg. 4th was Cooper’s Whippet, Crosscrop Im Alwayz Yours at Ballauren JW. Loved the size and overall shape of this pretty parti-colour bitch. Super dark pigmentation with a melting whippet expression. Loved her flowing top line from her ears to her long, elegant neck across her level back and slight rise over her loin falling to a perfect low set tail. Moved with plenty of drive covering the ground well but could be a little tidier coming towards.
Hound Puppy Group
The top two spots went to the winner and runner-sup in the Hound Group. 3rd went to the Borzoi, Dover’s Sukeshi Hot Dancer at Keanver and 4th went to the Beagle Goldberg’s Molesend Linnet.

J (2,0) 1st Randall’s Penner Lodge Melissa Officinalis at Celestiaries (imp Italy). Black & Tan Coonhound. BOB & BPIB. Beautiful head with distinct plains and strong underjaw. Dark eyes and alert expression. Long ear leathers reaching well past her nose. Slight crest to her neck and well angulated forequarters. Just a fraction longer than height at withers. Straight front with fabulous well-conditioned feet – tight and compact. Moved parallel with effortless freedom and accurate footfall in side gait showing reach and drive. Jet black shiny coat and rich tans. 2nd Wyler, Marshall-Wyer & Shannon’s Amilees Des Coucarlis de Bordeneuve (imp France) Griffon Fauve. Beautiful head and expression. Correct body proportions being slightly longer than tall. Well angulated forequarters. A little over-enthusiastic on the move so not as parallel as ideal and tending to move away closer behind. Excellent coat qualities. Could carry tail in a better sickle shape.
O (5,1) 1st Middleton’s Caelestibleu Suede Shoes. Basset Bleu De Gascogne. Really appealed in overall outline and balance. Lovely head proportions with typical sad gentle expression. Long slightly arched neck. Super level top line with strength over her slightly arched loin. Moved with drive form strong hocks just a little narrow coming towards and going away. Very attractive markings finished the picture. RBOB. 2nd Randall’s Scenterbay Like A Star at Celestiaries. Black & Tan Coonhound. Built on a larger frame. Liked the strength of her head with a strength to her muzzle and underjaw. Not quite the expression of the BOB winner. Beautiful ears of correct length. Straight front and well angulated hind quarters. Moving a little close behind and losing her top line on the move.
Afghan Hound PG (1,0) 1st Morrison & McCormack’s Sitana Ghost Rider to Tulak. Upstanding Junior Dog with a proud head carriage. Long skull and foreface with strong jaw. Dark eye and good shape to give typical oriental expression. Coat well developed for age and fine texture with clearly defined saddle. Long rib cage and short loin. Just lacking the angulation in front and hind quarters to give the reach and drive required. Lovely big feet broad front feet. BOB.
Saluki PG (1,0) 1st Dugdale’s Gayledale Hurricane of Hedra. Appealed for size and overall balance. Beautiful head and expression. Long and narrow with large dark oval eye. Long ears with silky fringes. Long elegant neck. Length and depth to her brisket with strength to her loin supporting her top line which she holds well stood and on the move. Showing good length of stride in side gait with accurate foot fall. Just a little narrow coming towards. Carries her low set tail naturally in a curve with good feathering. BOB.
Deerhound PG (1,0) 1st Pounder’s Kynroan Lindisfeornia. Just out of puppy and needs to settle on the move but no lack of drive and plenty of enthusiasm. Makes an attractive, well balanced picture stood. Lovely head and expression with small neat ears. Good reach of neck and well laid shoulder blades. Real flow to her topline to low set tail. Really appealed on the move with head held high, shape to her top line and low set tail. Tail carried like a typical rudder on move. Harsh coat of correct length. An exciting prospect when settles. BOB.
Beagle
PG (5,3) Two promising puppies both at different stages of development. 1st Goldberg’s Molesend Linnet. BOB & BPIB. A couple of months older than Bar Nee Rubble and maturing nicely. A fraction longer in loin but makes a typical silhouette and still short in her couplings and plenty compact enough. Really scored on the move where her top line was firm, tail held vertical. She was as sound as a bell coming and going and had very accurate footfall in side gait. Her head was a little broader in back skull and I would prefer a slightly larger eye. 2nd Chance & Dodds’ Dotlun Bar Nee Rubble. Just 6 months and the most adorable head and expression which I actually preferred to the head of the winner. Liked compact body and outline stood. This chap just needs to strengthen in top line and get his tail held higher to vertical on the move Nice and compact in body. Loved his low hocks and really sound going away.
O (3,1) 1st Pocklington-Hall’s Bayard Bee Good. Instantly appealed in his overall shape and head qualities. Compact in body. Well-proportioned head. Large eyes set well apart of lighter hazel colour. Tail held perfectly on the move; up like a flag pole. Fore chest well developed with well angulated forequarters. Level back and ribs well sprung. Parallel away and back. 2nd Molesend Kiwi. A lightly marked two year old bitch who was a little finer all through; finer head and muzzle and longer in her body. Preferred the compact body of the winner and she didn’t want to get her tail up today. Moved away well from her strong hocks but a little wide coming towards today.
Dachshund (Min Long-Haired)
PG (5,1) 1st Bell’s Indiko Cast In Cream at Tolberg. Young cream bitch just out of puppy. An exciting prospect of an ideal size and overall shape. Beautiful conical shape head with the dark almond eyes and broad hears set high. Big teeth and strength to her underjaw. Long neck with slight crest. Good length of rib and short strong loin. Holds topline perfectly both stood and on the move. Chest well developed for her age. Moved freely with good length of stride and driving from her low hocks. Tail carried beautifully. Coat developing well and of just the right length. BOB and Group -. 2nd Mc Nulty’s Kenbloom Nix Boxwood at Abbykiera. Super pigmentation on this attractive red bitch with black overlay. Beautiful head and almond eye. Built on a larger frame than the winner but still well-proportioned overall with good length of rib and short loin. Carries top line well at all times. Moved away with drive from low hocks a little wider in front coming towards. Coat developing well for her age. BPIB.
O (4,0) 1st Webster’s Indiko Eternal Flame. Beautiful black and cream bitch with a lovely head and expression. Long elegant neck and well angulated forequarters with well-developed chest. Level top line but could be a fraction shorter in loin. Tail carried nicely off her back. Moved nice and parallel going away and coming towards. 2nd Morrin & Barbi’s Zilcan Vanilla Ice at Araltdaz JW. Beautiful dark almond eyes. A shorter muzzle with strength to his underjaw. Makes a lovely shape stood with a level top line and correct overall outline. He is a little short in rib and longer in loin and loses his top line on the move. He drives from his well-developed thighs and strong hocks. Would like a little more reach in front. Coat in good order.
Dachshund (Min Smooth-Haired)
PG (2,1) 1st Cumberland’s Mumysami Beth Level of Crazy JW. An impressive stag red bitch who catches your eye for her head carriage and fabulous forequarters. Beautiful long tapering head with dark almond eyes and strength to her underjaw. Long neck with slight crest and good lay of shoulders. Fabulous oval chest with well angulated forequarters. Nice and long in the rib with strong loin. Has strength to her top line but a little high on the hock so whilst level just slopes slightly. Tail set and carried nice and low. Sound away and back. A close call for BOB.
O (3,0)1st Richardson’s Teckeltown Elton John. Slightly larger than the PG winner but a very balanced picture overall and is impressive on the move. Drives from his strong, well let down hocks and his beautifully angulated forequarters. I liked his head and expression. Long ribs and short loin holding his top line level stood and on the move. He is a naturally long stride and drive from his well bent stifles. Fabulous broad neat front feet and tight tidy back feet; proper digging tools. BOB. 2nd Cumberland’s Mumysami So What. A 6 yr old bitch in fit hard condition and looking a picture of health. Makes a lovelyt shape stood and shows strength to her hocks and her top line. Lovely long rib cage with depth and width to her chest. Short loin. Dark almond eyes and broad high set ears. Would prefer her muzzle a fraction longer and slightly narrower back skull. Very sound moving away and coming towards.
Irish Wolfhound
PG (1,0) 1st Taylor’s Bribiba’s Highland Prince at Critaylor. Handsome cream dog with dark oval eyes and neat ears. Long head carried high on a long well arched neck. Deep Chest and good length of rib to strong loin. Holds top line well. Moderate bend of stifle and matching moderate angulation to forequarters. Moved steadily but prefer a longer stride. Harsh coat of quality. Moved a little close coming towards.
O (2,0) 1st Taylor’s Bribiba’s Calamity Jane at Critaylor. A beautiful bitch who is not the largest but still is so well balanced and very impressive on the move. Appealed in head and expression. Long neck with slight arch. Well-developed fore chest and deep in brisket. Well laid shoulders and matching length of upper arm. Matching angulation of her hind quarters creating a freedom in side gait with accurate footfall. Moved parallel away and back. Harsh coat and fit muscular condition. BOB. 2nd McNulty’s Wyldwensley’s Kes JW. Impressive in stature with a strength to his handsome head and dark oval eye with small, neat ears. Just losing his top line standing and on the move today. A little narrow coming towards but moves away with drive from his hocks.
Rhodesian Ridgeback.
J (3,0) 1st Hodge’s Colkeririn To The Nines JW. Just about to leave puppy and assured of a bright future. A perfect combination of strength, power and athleticism. Short sleek lighter wheaten coat and in wonderful condition. Presents a beautiful balanced picture both stood and on the move. Loved her head and expression with flat broad skull and strength to her muzzle and strong jaw. Lovely dark sparkling round eyes set well apart. Long elegant neck flowing into a level top line with strength to her loin. Clearly defined ridge of correct width and length. So impressive on the move. Sound away and back and with a naturally free side gait showing reach and drive with accurate footfall. BPIB. BOB. Hound Group Winner, Hound Puppy Group Winner later BPIS under Bill Browne-Cole. 2nd Mackfall, Mackfall & McIntosh’s Africaner Zavanna Breeze JW. Another impressive bitch of a darker red colour also in hard muscular, fit condition with a short gleaming coat. Beautiful head and expression. Lovely straight front legs and compact feet. Good depth of chest. Liked the angulation of her forequarters and her bend of stifle with strength to her hocks. Moved well towards but a little close going away. Showed reach and drive in side gait. Just preferred top line of the winner on the move.
PG (3.0) 1st Scanlin’s Kinabula Beat of My Heart. A young bitch who impressed with her overall shape and balance. Stands naturally and makes a very typical silhouette. Well-proportioned head and dark eye. Long slightly arched neck and chest already nice and deep. Very sound away and back and move with a freedom of stride in side gait. Just a little proud of her tail. 2nd Green & Thomson’s Rottzridge Celtic Legend at Kotamury. A very dark red dog with a super short sleek coat. He has a beautiful head piece with flat skull and width to his back skull with longer deep muzzle and powerful jaw. Fabulous dark eye. Straight front and well angulated forequarters. Just a little shorter in the loin and footfall not quite as accurate as the winner.
O (1,0) 1st Ross’ Penholda I Want It All. Handsome, fully mature dog with an impressive head and intelligent expression with dark sparkling eyes. A little shorter in neck and moderately angulated forequarters. Deep in chest and long in rib cage. Balanced angulation fore and aft but not quite the reach and drive of the other winners. Parallel away and back. Losing top line stood and on the move today. In fit condition.
Borzoi
PG (3,0) 1st Dover’s Sukeshi Hot Dancer at Keanver. A beautiful 8 month old bitch puppy who made such a typical shape stood and on the move. Long lean head with dark almond eyes and small neat delicate ears. Loved her overall balanced proportions and her silhouette. She flows from the tip of her nose to the end of her tail. Just floats in a suspended gait in profile – so graceful. Deep chest and long rib cage. Silky coat and well-conditioned overall. Slight slope to her pasters and neat well arched feet. Would have just liked her moving a little wider behind when going away BPIB. 2nd Conroy’s Everwyck Caladria at Enolam. Appealed in head and expression. Long and lean with dark almond and strong underjaw with smal, neat ears. Straight front legs and moderately angulated shoulders. Deep chest and long rib cage. Shorter in loin. A little exaggerated in top line with rather a with a sharp fall off over the croup. Moved soundly away and back but lacked the freedom of movement in side gait. Super silky coat with slight wave.
O (1,0) 1st Dover’s Palamedees Arian Khrysos ay Keanver JW. A mature cream and white dog with a glorious silky coat with slight wave. Super feathering and in gleaming clean condition. My notes say ‘beautiful’ as a first impression. Such a noble disposition. A fabulous body with a really deep chest and long rib cage with strong muscular loin and correct fall off over croup with low set tail. Very sound away and back and even more impressive in side gait. Could have a slightly longer neck for ideal and was a little down on his pasterns. BOB.
Basenji
O (4,2) 1st Knowles Sarawana Dragonfire Rising JW. I preferred the overall type and shape of the red and white bitch. A little hyper but once settled made an impressive side gait covering plenty of ground with ease. Lovely head and expression but not using her ears as well as she could. Lovely crest to her long neck. Liked her length of leg and her squareness of body. BOB. 2nd Casentieri’s Alchez Live For The Night. A young black and white bitch just out of puppy and needs to mature. Lovely head and expression with dark almond eyes and high set ears which she used well. Carrying a little bit too much weight so losing the overall athletic elegance associated with the breed. Short on her leg than the winner which made her look longer in the body. Sound away and back.
Av NSC Hound
PG (2,0) 1st Morrin & Barbi’s Donard Dream For Arlatdax (IKC) Bavarian Hound. Really liked his head and alert expression. Correct head proportions with eyes of moderate size and dark in colour. Just longer =than tall with correct slight slope to the top line from withers to flatter croup with high tail set high and carried nicely off his back. Parallel away and back when not moved too fast. Very accurate footfall in side gait showing good reach and drive. BOB. 2nd Kenmare’s Omega Huculska Dolina at Craigmills (imp Pol). Hamiltonstovare. The most beautiful correctly proportioned long head on this 2 year old bitch with such a gentle, calm expression. She stands naturally with well angulated forequarters and good bend of stifle. Rectangular in body with long rib and strong loin giving level top line. Free long reaching stride in side gait with drive from her hindquarters. Sadly very uncoordinated coming towards crossing her front legs. And moving too wide behind. Very good clarity on her short tri-colour coat pattern.
O (2,0) 1st Lumley’s Swansford Diadora. Dachshund (Long-Haired). Fabulous head on this black and tan bitch with a lovely eye and expression. She makes a super silhouette with proud head carriage and strong top line. A very well angulated front with well-developed fore chest and elbows tight to her rib cage. Very good length to her rib and short in loin but sadly too overweight which detracted. 2nd Pocklington-Hall’s Merlin Do Casal Dos Choupos (Imp PRT) ShCEx VW. Basset Fauve De Bretagne. A very balanced hound of the correct size and overall proportions. Fit as a fiddle and belies his 8 years especially on the move where he carries his head proudly and is so sound. Parallel away and back, drive form his low hicks and good extension in front. He is little short in muzzle and wider in back skull than ideal. Super harsh dense coat.
Av Hound
P (8,5) 1st Dover’s Sukeshi Hot Dancer at Keanver. Saluki. 2nd McAuley’s Whippet, Afterglow Diki Bird. Beautiful baby whippet at her first show but took this whole showing lark in her stride. Such a happy well-conditioned pup. Her coat is fabulous; so short and sleek like moleskin. She has a very typical outline stood; so elegant. Moved with drive from low hocks. Just a little excited on the move so not quite as accurate in front coming towards. Accurate foot fall in side gait
J (5,2) 1st Goldberg’s Molesend Linnet. Beagle. 2nd Morrison & McCormack’s Afghan Hound Sitana Ghost Rider to Tulak.
O (6,3) 1st Dugdale’s Gayledale Typhgoon of Artemis. A very elegant Saluki. Long fine head with super expression and well fringed ears. Very elegant in neck. Made a very balanced picture stood. Moved away well but a little untidy coming towards. Showed good freedom in side gait carrying her head proudly and striding out well.
Veteran (7,3) 1st Scanlon’s Kinabula’s All About The Bass JW ShCEx OSW VW. 8.5 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback. What a credit to her owner looking an absolute picture for her age. My notes say fit as a flea and sound as a bell. Well worthy of all her titles but shocked the CH title isn’t at the front of her name. Such a beautiful head and expression. Perfect ridge for length, width and pattern. Moved parallel away and back and such accurate footfall in side gait. Loved her and she would have given me an enjoyable dilemma if been entered in the breed. 2nd Pocklington-Hall’s Merlin Do Casal Dos Choupos (Imp PRT) ShCEx VW.
AV Special Beginners Stakes.
1st Smith & Balmers’ Howlvalley Tiramisu. Young junior Siberian Husky bitch and headed this big class on her ring presence, breed type and sound movement. Super head with alert expression. Really impressive on the move and has a great rapport with her handler. Effortless in side gait. 2nd Perfitt-Jones’ Samjoe The One And Only VW. 8 year old Alaskan Malamute. This young man handled his beautiful Malamute so well. For a big powerful dog there was only one person in charge and this bitch clearly respected her ‘boss’. She has a beautiful head and expression with a Mal smile. Impressive coat sure to keep the cold out. Thick sabre tail. Nice and steady on the move with accurate foot fall giving impression she could work all day.
