Natasha Walker (Teshleystaf)

Firstly, I want to thank the committee for not only providing this opportunity but also for their wonderful hospitality and a smoothly run day. I also want to thank my stewards for an efficiently run ring, especially a certain young steward, who done a sterling job.

Secondly, to the exhibitors who gave me a wonderful entry, and the honour of judging their dogs. Some I have never judged and some of which I have previously judged, to all of you, your support goes a long way with an up-and-coming judge. I like to judge with the standard in mind, and prompt decisions and it was respected on the day. So, thank you for entering and accepting my decisions with such sportsmanship.

My biggest takeaway was that some exhibits were lacking the necessary condition for their body types, which cost them places, but it is one thing we can change on our dogs which makes a huge difference. A couple also lost out on a less than bold temperament which can really be a shame but bold and fearless is the standards characteristic. But overall, there were no breathing issues, and no concerning dentition. In my opinion bitches are of very strong breed type currently, some with very promising futures coming up, I think it is going to be an interesting year.

Baby Puppy (2,0abs)

1. Walbey’s - JODEL’S LAYLA WITH TYNEVIEW

Pretty Red and white bitch, with a lovely pigment so far. Her head clean and neat with room still to develop. Eyes dark and ears as expected. At this age she looked to be maturing nicely and had good bone for her size, her body well-constructed showing a wide front, good angulation and a level topline. Everything looks to be going the right way. She strutted down the mat in a playful and cheeky manner, with all the bold and fearlessness one would expect from a pup. Won on her overall breed type and strength for size at this age. Happy to award her best baby puppy in show, enjoy her!

2. Lister & Callaghan’s - DEKAYRO ME OLDMATE BOVVER

Red and white dog, again maturing well for age. His head clean as a whistle, showing good proportions, enough stop and a dark round eye, his bite correct and enough underjaw. He had sufficient bone and width for size, and a well developing rear. On the move, he was confidently moving up and down the mat. He was slightly looser on the move that 1 at this age, but being a baby puppy, one would imagine this would tighten up. I think maturity will add to his virtues.

Minor Puppy Dog (2,0abs)

1. Davis’ -SHARMARA FIDELIUS CHARM

Charming pup he is! Brindle and white pied dog, who owned the ring, demanding me to look at him. So confident at such a tender age. His head clean, with neat rose ears, enough stop and good muzzle ratios. His eyes round and dark, his expression beautiful, as well as a correct bite and enough underjaw. He has enough width for his size at this age with good bone and depth of brisket. His body showed a developing spring of rib, level top line and a well developing rear. All was upheld on the neatest of feet. He moved well down the mat, showing a slight loose movement of a puppy, that I would think would tighten up as he matures. I had no doubt in awarding him best puppy dog and really pushed hard for best puppy in show. On any given day, they could swap places. I will keep my eye on him as I think he has an exciting future ahead of him.

2. Hagan’s- KAHAMIA ALL BLACK

Black brindle lad with the loveliest expression. His head strong and developing well. Demonstrating pronounced stop, good underjaw and a correct bite. He has an abundance of bone for his size, his front of good width, with enough fore chest and depth of brisket. His body shows enough rib, and a well-constructed rear developing well. He moved well enough up and down the ring. I believe this boy will be a slow burner, given time he will mature into quite something. It just cost him in this class but given time, and conditioning when he is older, I think you’ll have fun with him!

Puppy Dog (6,2abs)

1. Wilkinson’s - AIRESTAFF BOB DYLAN

Red and white lad, that just stood out to me. Taller than 2, but still very balanced, with a gorgeous expression. He just stood out to me in this class; I just saw breed type in him. He had a good head with distinct stop, his ears neat and eyes round and dark. His muzzle ratio is correct and he had good underjaw, with correct scissor bite. I loved his balance and bone, his front of good width and good bone upheld by neat feet. His body showed enough rib for his size and a sufficient angulated rear. He moved very well. I really liked him; he won this class on his balance and movement. He had just had enough of his day by the time of his challenge, which led him unable to challenge the minor puppy dog. I think more time and experience he will do well.

2. Preston’s - KAHAMAIA JONAH

Smart black brindle with plenty of strength for his size. His head has a distinct stop, neat ears and dark round eyes. He has a correct scissor bite, with plenty of underjaw. He is well off for bone and fore chest, and plenty of brisket, his body showed a well sprung rib. He moved well up and down the ring. He lost out on balance compared to 1, and a bit less animation. Like his litter brother in minor puppy, I do think this lad will also be a slow burner, so giving time will become something more.

3. Courtney’s - DEXILYSTAFFS NORTHERN STAR

Junior Dog (6,2abs)

1. Millers’ - SKYLAND TILIKUM

Black brindle lad, with a lovely head shape and expression. He captures your eye, with his ring presence and physique. His head strong, with distinct stop, eyes that are dark and round, good width to muzzle and enough underjaw, all finished off with neat ears. He is fit as a fiddle with no muscle untouched. Through the body, he has good depth of brisket enough rib for size, loin light. His feet are neat, with no signs of weakness. His rear sufficiently angulated. The fittest exhibit in the ring today, with the conditioning one would aspire to. He was very interested in the floor on the move, but his handler managed to get the best out of him to show good movement.

2. Rawlings-Brown’s - LENNOX THE GREAT

Brindle lad, who showed a lot of breed type. Strong head, with good proportion, skull deep through and distinct stop. He virtues neat ears, round eyes and a correct bite. His front was wide, a sufficient fore chest and a good depth to brisket. His legs straight turning slightly out at the pastern. In his body, he had plenty of rib, and shows a light loin, his rear well angulated. He moved out well. He lost out on condition, which I think if worked on would improve his overall appearance.

3. Jones’ - DUSKLIGHT REBEL HEART

Novice Dog (4,1abs)

1. Rawlings-Brown’s -LENNOX THE GREAT

See 2nd Junior Dog

2. Davis’ = SHARMARA FIDELIUS CHARM

See 1st Minor Puppy dog – but worth a note he just lost out in this class on maturity but pushed 1 very hard holding his own in this class well.

3. Rooney’s - TIP TOP TIMMY ROONEY

Post Graduate Dog (3,0abs)

1. Jamieson Bramley’s - TYNEVIEW RIZZIUS LUSSO

Brindle and white, with a Stafford expression. His head is strong enough, with sufficient stop. His eyes round and has a muzzle of good length showing a tight lip, and correct bite. With slightly more length, he has balance with his height. His front showed good proportions with plenty of width for his size. His legs showing enough bone and neat feat. He has sufficient rib and is close coupled. He portrayed the desired light loin, leading onto a defined rear. He held his topline stood and on the move. He moved well up and back. His balance, and cleanliness in head won him his place in this class.

2. Mckenna’s - KENSEQUI GOBIS SHARHARD’S

Red lad with a strong head piece. It is deep through, with a distinct stop. His eyes dark enough for his coat, and his ears neat. His expression is something which he uses to his advantage in the ring and demands attention. In the body he was well off for bone, and good width to him and good rib. His rear showed a well bent stifle, and he moved out well holding his topline level. He lost out on the balance and cleanliness that one has.

3. Courtney’s -T’BLAZING STAR OF THE WARRIORS RED SKINS AT DELICYSTAFFS (IMP FRA)

Limit Dog (2,0abs)

1. Waltham’s- DRINGSHAW STROBE JW

My impression of this dog is he could be like marmite you either love him or hate him. For me, I love him! He is balanced from his head to his toes, from his fore chest to his point of buttock. White dog, with a smidge of red on his ear, and fantastic pigment. He has a strong head with good ratios, enough stop and well filled cheeks. He houses big teeth in a correct scissor bite, and something I can only describe as a cheeky expression! He has plenty of bone and strength for size, good fore chest and depth to brisket. His body showed a level top line, well sprung ribs leading to a light loin. He has sufficient angulation on the rear, and good width to his thigh. He moved with economy of effort down the mat; not setting a toe out of place and upholding that topline. I could watch him move all day long. Happy to award him Best Dog and to go on and win Reserve best in show.

2. Jamieson Bramley’s - TYNEVIEW ETNA NERO

A handsome dog with the most beautiful brindling in his coat. He was unlucky to meet 1 today but did not stop him showing his virtues off. His head has sufficient stop and strength throughout but fits his balance perfectly. He had dark round eyes, neat ears and a correct scissor bite, with huge teeth. His body showed enough width for his size, and slightly longer cast, but vital for his balance. He was upheld on the neatest feet and moved out effortlessly showing the desired reach and drive and upholding his level topline. Having in a harder condition will really improve his overall appearance.

Open Dog (3,1abs)

This class is one that I feel could go either way, this really tested me.

1. Reynolds’ - CH NIATONA WRECK IT RALPH

A standard red and white ever so handsome lad, with a real breed type look about him, including that ever so vital balance! His head is strong enough for his build, one would not want to change it, with correct stop. His ears neat and His eyes dark round and expressive. His muzzle of good ratios, tight lipped and teeth show correct bite. His front has good width and well boned legs, his pasterns showing no weakness, and neat well-padded feet. He has good width to his front and depth of brisket. A well sprung rib and upheld his topline level and his rear quarters showed good angulation. He moved out well enough but lost out to best dog as he just couldn’t match on the reach and drive on the move. I also would have liked him in a fitter condition, as I think it would complete his overall appearance. But, in the line-up I could see nothing but his breed type and expression and was happy to award him reserve best dog. It is ever so easy to see how he won his title; he is a lovely lad!

2. Marsden’s - JAYNEZE DOCTOR JIMMY AT MODLIFE

I have had the pleasure of judging this Black brindle lad before he has such strength for size, and good bone. He is top size but very balanced. His expression is to die for, he has a strong head of correct proportions, with neat ears, dark eyes, correct stop for his head shape, and well-muscled cheeks. His bite is correct and has plenty of underjaw. He has an abundance of bone and more width hands on than meets the eye, you need to put your hands on this dog to appreciate him. His feet neat with pasterns showing no weakness. He lost out to 1 just being that bit more standard, and that being the only decision. I did note he was not in the condition that I had previously judged him, and I think that bit more conditioning just finishes him off. He is one I believe will gain his crown.

Veteran Dog (2,1abs)

1. Johnson’s -CH TILLCARR FIRE COANDA JW

9-year-old black brindle lad, who for his age, I couldn’t see any silver specs, I want to know his secret of youth! He had a very handsome expression on a clean head with round eyes, and good ears. He has distinct stop and a deep through skull with well pronounced cheek muscles. His body balanced with sufficient bone and neat feet. Moved well up and down the mat but being picky I would like a bit more drive from the rear, but he held his topline stood and throughout. Just lost out to the bitch for best veteran in show, as she had that bit more strength for size, but no doubt a good dog worthy of his title.

Minor Puppy Bitch (1,0abs)

1. Hirst & Bibby’s -TARAIEL AMAZING GRACE

Stood alone, but ready for the challenge. Black brindle standard bitch who had sassiness in her eyes, saying she knew she could own the ring. She had a spark to her, which captivated me. Her head is strong yet feminine, with correct proportions and neat ears. Her underjaw strong, with a correct scissor bite. Her body in the lower end of the standard but again so balanced, and showing great width to her front, good bone and neat feet. Her ribs are developing well, as is her rear. She walked with plenty of drive moving down the mat, demanding attention to show of what she can do well. Happy to award her best puppy bitch and she was challenged hard by the best puppy dog but sealed the deal with her overall breed type and boldness for Best Puppy in Show. Good luck with her, one would imagine her future will be quite something.

Puppy Bitch (5, 1abs)

1. Walsh & Lloyds’ - CROWSTAFF SIEZE THE DAY FOR WEORC

Black brindle and white bitch, up on her toes demanding attention today. Pretty as a picture, with a feminine yet strong head, her eyes dark, her underjaw plentiful and her bite correct all put together with an expression to die for. She has good bone, on neat enough feet which I imagine will tighten up as she matures. Her body showed a well sprung rib, enough depth to brisket, a light loin and close coupling. All leading down to well angulated rear, with a good bend of stifle. She was a tad unsettled on the move today, but on her second run down showed good movement holding her topline level. She was challenged hard by 2 but won on being a bit more balanced at this age.

2. Johnson’s - BETHALEESE’S DAMMIT JANET BY TILLCARR

Prettiest of girls, with an enticing expression. Still at the tender age of beginning her puppy class she held her own and looked the part. Her head feminine, but with distinct stop and good strength throughout without being overdone. She has the darkest round eyes, and a correct bite to compliment it. She had correct strength in her body for size, showing development well throughout. She held her topline on the move and stood. Moving, she moved with drive yet upholding some elegance. She pushed 1 really hard but just lost out on being that smidge longer cast taking away some of her balance. But I imagine they could swap places on any given day and I expect her best days are yet to come, enjoy her!

3. Shipp’s - IDYLICSTAFF NANGI

Junior Bitch (2,0abs)

1. Fords’ - BULLRICHS KNOCK IT OFF AT JAMALOZ (IMP DEU)

Red and white bitch, with the most beautiful expression. Alert and up on her toes, demanding I look at her. She was balanced throughout, but very feminine. Her head is an expressive statement piece, deep through with neat ears, clean tight lip and correct bite. Her body is well boned for her shape and size, her feet neat and padded. She has enough rib at this age and showed a light loin. Her rear is well angulated, and she is developing muscle well. She moved very well, just a bit eager to set off, but her handler got the best out of her! I really considered her for best bitch, and lost out just to that smidge more maturity, as I believe the best of this girl is yet to come. I truly believe her title will come one day. But delighted to award her Reserve Best Bitch. Good luck with her, I will watch with great interest.

2. Petts’ - ARKENSTAFFS SHES THE ONE AT BRYDONSTAFF

Black brindle bitch, who I noted was the fittest bitch on the day. She was unlucky to meet 1, as she had a tough fight against her. Her head is slightly less strong than 1, but still incredibly feminine. She has enough stop, and good muzzle length. Her lips are clean as a whistle and her bites correct. She is slighter longer cast, but carries it well, she has enough bone for her feminine physique and developing rib. Being so young, she still has a lot of maturing to do. Her topline was held stood and on the move. She was full of beans for her male handler, so put him to challenge on the move, however she moved well enough.

Novice Bitch (6,2abs)

1. Hagan’s - KAHAMAIA AUCKLAND

Black brindle bitch who won on her breed type and bone. Her head was housed by neat ears and showed a deep through skull, dark round eyes and a clean muzzle showing a correct bite. Her body was well balanced, and showed enough strength for size, she had enough rib and a well angulated rear. Her topline was level stood and on the move. She moved well for her handler and sealed her place in the class. A bit more condition would finish her off perfectly.

2. Waltham’s - DRINGSHAW RED FLAME

Red and white bitch, with the stunning expression I have learnt is a staple of this kennel. She stared right into my soul. More of an athletic type than 1, but incredibly well built. Her head is correct for her build; with all the virtues one would look for. Including large round dark eyes, neat ears and big teeth showing a correct scissor bite. She had enough bone for her build and a good spring of rib and a sufficiently angulated rear. Her handler was ready to tame the flame in this girl and get her moving well and effortlessly. Just lost out to 1 on breed type.

3. Haworth’s - AIXIT ROSIE BLUEBELL

Post Graduate Bitch (13, 4abs)

1. Willets & Bingham’s - HAMASON HEART’S ON FIRE JW

Red and white bitch who I judged previously only a few weeks ago. I knew she stood out to me, but today she was put to a greater challenge. She was up on her toes and demanding my eye. Her energy for life putting her handler to work. She has a feminine but strong enough style about her; I wouldn’t want any more of her. Her head having correct proportions, a beautiful keen expression, neat ears, dark eyes, and a clean muzzle showing a correct scissor bite. Her body developed well, showing enough bone for her size, a wide yet feminine front and a light loin, her rear quarters well angulated. On the move she held her top line, even if she challenged her handler to match her movement to show her reach and drive. She was pushed hard by two in the line-up, but she stood out on maturity and ring presence. Soon as she did that best bitch was hers and went on to award her best in show as she just shone. Good luck with her, I will be shocked if her crown doesn’t come!

2. Jones’ - ROUGESTAFF RED VELVET JW

This girl made me smile, but I can imagine her handler sweat. She wanted everyone in the ring to know she was in charge and she sure did! Her eyes dark but twinkling with spirit. Prettiest package who is well balanced and very feminine. Her head has a real feminine shape with a not over done look about it, clean as a whistle with a correct bite. She had sufficient width to her front, good bone and neat feet, she is incredibly balanced. Her top line level and her rear well angulated. Her condition is spot on and not overdone. Struggled to get going on the move as she demanded the attention of the ring and boldly challenged up to her competition. When she did move, she moved well, but the ring size prevented her showing her full advantage as she was keen to take charge of the ring. Brought her in for the challenge to see how she compared to the junior and limit bitch, she up there amongst them. Good luck with her, the wild child!

3. Preston’s - KAHMAIA CIRCLE OF FIRE

Limit Bitch (6, 1abs)

1. Smith’s - DRINGSHAWS GIRL ON FIRE

Sassy red and white bitch, with the most alert and demanding expression. She oozes sass and has the kennels expression stamped on. She is incredibly feminine, and balanced. Her head strong but not overdone, her eyes dark and her bite correct housed by clean lips and good underjaw. Her front is wide enough for her stature, and enough bone. Her feet neat and well padded. She has good depth to brisket and a well sprung rib, and a well-developed rear. Her condition is wonderful and compliments her style well. She moved effortlessly up and down the ring and she seemed to have spirit that owned the ring and demanded attention. I really liked her! Another who challenge extremely hard in the final line up, one who I believe will receive her crown.

2. Johnson’s - TILLCARR DESIRE FOR FIRE

I looked on to this girl in desire, she is lovely! Beautiful expression, on a strong but feminine head with neat ears and dark eyes, her skull deep through, her stop distinct with good muzzle ratio housing a neat bite. She has plenty of strength for her size, showing off her femininity. Her front wide enough for her, with enough bone and neat feet, showing no pastern weakness. Her body was well put together, with enough rib and a well angulated rear. She moved well coming and going. She Lost out to 1 on condition, having her in a more toned physique will really finish her off and put her up in top honours.

3. Winrow & Greaves - JAYNEZE MISS ATTITUDE

Open Bitch (4,3abs)

1. Harkin & Jones’ - KAMARISTAFF ROYAL DUCHESS JW

Stood alone but not to be ignored. Feminine yet strong and not stepping a toe out of place. It was like she knew her place but wouldn’t step away from a challenge. Her head of correct proportions, eye dark as the night and a clean muzzle with correct bite. Short wide neck, leading down to a front with the correct width for her size. Her legs showed good bone and neat padded feet. I noted she has a well sprung rib and a light loin. She held her topline stood and, on the move, moving with economy of effort earning her place. Her condition was good which finished her off, just being picky compared to my top honours she just lacked a greater depth of brisket for her size but another to keep an eye on none the less.

Veteran Bitch (4,2abs)

1. Livingstons’ - HATSON GETTING AWAY WITH IT

Black brindle bitch with a lot of breed type. She is not overly flashy but as standard as you would like, with a head of good proportions, dark eyes and a correct scissor bite. She had good bone and plenty of width for size. Enough fore chest and depth of brisket, complimenting her rib well sprung and showing a light loin and well angulated rear. She moved well up and down the mat for her handler. Won Best Veteran in Show as just having that bit more strength for size than the dog.

2. Waltham’s - DRINGSHAW BOULE DE NEIGE

White bitch with excellent pigment. Her expression spot on and her eyes dark as coal. Her head is clean with good proportions and a correct bite. On the taller end of the standard but again harbouring that vital balance. She showed enough width for size, a well sprung rib and level topline, with a sufficiently angulated rear. My heart and my head conflicted on this one. My heart loved her mischievous eyes, and effortless movement and keen expression, she had me wanting to take her home. My head gave her this place, as one was just that bit more standard and having a greater width to thigh. She’s a sweetheart always welcome on my sofa!
