Open Show – 2nd May 2026

Judge: Michael Masters

Thank you to the Officers and Committee for the kind invitation to judge at this friendly show, I was more than happy to step in at short notice. My appreciation to my steward Chris for keeping the ring in order, but most of all a big thank you to the exhibitors for their entries.

CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL, SPECIAL YEARLING – 7 entries, 2 absent.

1. Liverton-Ovey’s HALOSEY ALL THE STARS ALIGN

This striking well balanced blenheim female took my eye on entering the ring and didn’t disappoint for breed type on closer inspection. She has a beautiful plush head of correct proportions with good fill below the eyes. She has dark eyes of correct shape and size giving that desired gentle expression. She has a strong, correct bite with nice sized teeth. Her shoulders are well laid with good length of upper arm and adequate depth of brisket for her age. She is well developed in rib, correct in body with short loin, quarters well bent. She is so sound in front movement, not so positive in hind action at this stage but has time on her side. Delighted to see she won PG1 and RBPIS under my co-judges

2. Kowalski’s ANICKILY BLACK ONYX

This black & tan male is full of himself, showing lots of promise. Although he is not as mature as the winner, he shows good breed type and balance. His head is masculine of good shape and proportions, his eyes are dark and of good shape. He is well made in front with sufficient body for age, hind quarters well bent. He is sound on the move holding a level topline.

3. Player’s ANICKILY BLACK PRINCE

CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL, POST GRADUATE – 6 entries, 2 absent.

1. Player’s ANICKILY BLACK ORCHID

I liked this black & tan male for his size make and shape, stands four square. He has a super head with good eye shape and colour with gentle expression. He is balanced in body with well sprung ribs extending well back to short loin and strong quarters. He moves sound, covering the ground with ease, holding a firm topline. RBOB

2. Kowalski’s ANICKILY BLACK VELVET

Another black & tan male, litter brother to the winner and many attributes apply, just preferred the size and balance of the winner

3. Williams’ FORTUNAMAJOR JO MALONE

CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL, LIMIT – 3 entries, 3 absent.

CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL, OPEN – 4 entries, 1 absent.

1. Williams’ MIRRILWILLS AVALINA

This mature blenheim female is approaching her 7th year and although stood alone filled my eye for her breed type and balance. She has a lovely head of good proportions with dark eyes of correct shape and pleasing gentle expression. I found her impressive to handle on the table, her shoulders are well laid back, plenty of depth to brisket, well sprung ribs extending well back to short loin. Her quarters are well bent with thick well muscled thighs. She comes alive on the move, sound both ways and striking in profile covering the ground with ease holding a firm topline. Although she is past her prime I could not deny her the top spot today. BOB

MINIATURE PINSCHER, POST GRADUATE – 0 entries.

MINIATURE PINSCHER, OPEN – 1 entry, 1 absent.

RETRIEVER (LABRADOR), PUPPY – 0 entries.

RETRIEVER (LABRADOR), JUNIOR – 0 entries.

RETRIEVER (LABRADOR), GRADUATE – 2 entries, 1 absent.

1. Philpott’s CLARISVIEW PRIMROSE

This yellow female impressed me for her crisp flowing outline in profile. On closer inspection I was taken by her feminine head, clean over the shoulder and plenty of depth, well ribbed back to short loin and strong well muscled quarters. On the move she held herself proud covering the ground admirably and sound on the up and back. Liked her clean out line and fit body tone over her dam today. BOB

RETRIEVER (LABRADOR), OPEN DOG – 0 entries.

RETRIEVER (LABRADOR), OPEN BITCH – 2 entries, 1 absent.

1. Philpott’s ROSSACRE SPANGLES OF CLARISVIEW

A pale yellow female of different type to my BOB but quality all the same. She has good breed type and balance with lots to like. I thought she was carrying a tad too much weight today, loaded on the shoulder and gave her that cloddy appearance.
