Deerhound Club Special Awards

18/04/2026

Miss M Anderson

Wow, what a privilege to judge the special awards at the 140th anniversary of the Deerhound Club! Deerhounds are the breed I truly love, the ones I grew up with so to not only judge the classes but also have one of the most outstanding entries in previous years just made it so special. There was so much quality in my classes in made my decisions extremely hard and to have to shortlist a class of deerhounds is something not many judges get to do. So, for that I am truly grateful.

A few things I feel I should note, my overall quality was outstanding but there were a few upright shoulders, a lack of upper arm causing a short stepping action in front, some light eyes, a few level bites and a few exhibits also lacked substance. At the end of the day, they are a dog bred to take down red deer, conformation is essential.

Special Awards Dog Or Bitch Aged 6-18 Months (9:2)

1, Peach KILBOURNE ROSSIE

a powerful youngster, masculine head of good size, dark eye, correct ear set, size and texture, scissor bite, correct length of neck into a well laid shoulder, ample bone and a strong front, good depth of chest for his age, ribs extended well back, nice rise over the loin which was a good length, lovely bend of stifle, powerful hindquarters that propelled him around the ring. I will follow him with interest.

2, Helps BEARDSWOOD YVAIN

another youngster that I thoroughly enjoyed, lovely head which was well proportioned, dark eye of good shape, correct ears, scissor bite, good length of neck, well laid shoulder, good bone on a strong front, nice depth of chest and extension of rib, lovely topline which was held well, well angulated in rear, moved well.

3, Sharp & Tannant TIGHMONADH ALBANNACH

4, Barret STRANWITH TOR

5, Cumberland & Constantine KALEGINY LAND ROVER

Another powerful male who has caught my eye a few times, masculine head of good size and shape, correct eye and ears, good length of neck into well laid shoulders, another with excellent bone, good front, lovely depth of chest, ribs extended back well, nice topline, strong rear end with good bend of stifle, moved well.

1, Owen & Brodie CH FRITZEN ZAREEF AT WOLFCASTLE (IMP GER)

this dog took my eye on the first go around, one i had to have my hands on to truly appreciated him, beautiful head, masculine but not overdone, dark eye, correct ear set size and shape, correct bite, tapering muzzle, good length of neck into a well laid shoulder, good bone, lovely front, excellent depth of chest, ribs extending back well, good rise over the loin, loved his bend of stifle, his movement is what pushed him to take the top spot, so powerful with a good reaching stride but never heavy, he moved like he was floating, a very worthy champion indeed and one I’m glad to have had my hands on.
