Nicely located within easy reach from the M6. A great venue with plenty of parking, though some was barriered off, it didn’t take long for the savvy dog show goer to move them and make use of the free space. The venue is a large, well-lit and airy hall with lots of space around the good size rings. Though I did feel the larger breeds could have done with a slightly larger ring, it was not an issue when it came to the stakes and BIS show as the rings were opened up to a super-size. The show was well run and very professional, with a constant supply of hot drinks by the committee and my diligent stewards on the day, Hillary and Barbara, who kept the ring running smoothly constantly. There was a friendly atmosphere and very sporting applause for the winners. Thank you to the dedicated and hard working committee for inviting me to judge - it was an honour.

Class: 114 – Puppy Bitch (2/3)
1st – 157 – Scandlauga Bailey’s On Ice – Miss Mason – 11 month old bitch, pretty feminine head with a kind eye and well placed ears, nice length of neck with a slight crest, flowed cleanly into her shoulders and a level topline, nice amount of spring to her ribs, and a short strong wide loin, nice amount of bone and tidy feet, good fore-chest and in-fill, good turn of stifle and expanse of thigh, proper use of her tail on the move, she moved with real drive and passion. BPIB.
2nd – 168 – Quettadene Festive Star – Shinkfield & Lester – 9 months old Black bitch, much slower maturing than the winner, she only looked 6 month old, beautiful feminine head and a kind expression with good eye colour, good stop, well set ears, good length of neck which flowed well into well placed shoulders. Not so together on the move as the winner today, she has plenty of time to settle down, nice to see a puppy enjoying herself.
Class: 115 – Junior (2/5)
1st - 153 – Annaside Wish Upon A Star – Mr & Mrs Davies – 17 month old Black bitch, pretty head with a good stop and well placed ears, nice little arc to her clean neck, good amount of bone and width to front, level topline, well sprung ribs, short strong loin, good turn of stifle, great expanse of thigh, short hocks, moved well.
2nd – 148- Kalispell’s The Player – Ms T. Babester – Dog that’s just 12 months old, strong masculine head with a kind eye of good colour and shape, great spring of ribs, short loin, excellent turn of stifle and tidy feet, ever so slightly bum high on the move.
Class: 116 – Graduate (1/5)
1st – 174 – Anlekael Unique Serpentine – Mrs K. Trezins – Impressive 2 year old Liver Roan dog, strong masculine head, with good stop and a keen expression, well placed ears of good shape and thickness, right amount of neck, good fore-chest, good amount of bone, tidy firm feet, well sprung ribs which were well back, good expanse of thigh, well angulated behind, short hocks, moved well with good use of the tail. I think once the handler has had more experience showing this particular dog and become more in-tune together then they should have a bright future.
Class: 117 – Post Graduate (2/4)
1st – 154 – Manlinson Dotty Dot – Mrs Hirst – 2 year old bitch, head of good proportions and planes, good eye shape and colour, tidy ears that were well placed, good length of neck, great fore-chest and bone, well sprung ribs, great turn of stifle, short hocks, good tail use.
2nd – 159 – Riondel Masquerade In Blu – Miss C. Morris – Unfortunately did not remain in the ring for critique notes to be written.
Class: 118 – Limit (3/6)

1st – 160 – Joaldy Mr Happy at Amaranth ShCEx – Miss & Ms Norris – Impressive 5 year old black dog on the stack, well presented, very nice glossy silky flat coat, very appealing head, good planes and proportions, good amount of stop, full dark brown eye with a very kind and intelligent expression, muscular neck of good length and a neat arch, well placed shoulders, good width and depth to chest, well sprung ribs, short strong and wide loin, clean level topline which he held well on the move, my best mover of the breed, had real drive and good reach, and tail was in constant motion. BOB.

GSP
Class: 17– Puppy (1/2)
1st - 20 – De Lombardie Spirit of Barleyarch (Imp CAN) – Mrs S. Harris – Instant impression of quality breeding from this 10 month old dog, the way he stood all four square over plenty of ground with little effort, with a graceful outline all while remaining masculine, showing the impression of power and stamina, a noble clean cut head of good proportions, with a gentle stop, an alert and kind eye of good colour, high set broad ears, strong masculine neck with the slightest of arcs, running cleanly into sloping shoulders and a short solid back, which was firm and muscular, powerful wide loin, his chest was deep, and a nice amount of fore-chest of good width, his fore legs were strong and well boned, and you can feel the sinew, the slightest of slope to pastern, feet firm and well arched toes, clean and moderate tuck-up, ribs well back and deep, well bent stifles with the correct rear angulation, great expanse of first and second thigh, which were well muscled and firm, the curvature from his tail set down the back of his thigh to his short hocks finished the overall picture of quality. Normally it can be hard for the larger gundogs to show off their movement inside on mats, but not this boy, he drove off with real power with good reach in front, presenting well-coordinated in profile and true coming and going, he had great carriage as he took charge of the ring, an absolute pleasure to award him Best In Show. BOB, BPIB, BIS, BPIS.
Class: 18 – Junior (1/2)
1st – 20 – De Lombardie Spirit of Barleyarch (Imp CAN) – Mrs S. Harris.
Class: 19 – Limit (3/3)
1st – 21 – Pinseeker Lady Luck at Peakforest – Mr & Mrs Kania – Very feminine bitch, the prettiest of head and very kind expression, long clean elegant neck, may be a smidge too long to overall balance, she stood all four square very easily, good fore-chest, well sprung ribs, short back, nicely angulated behind, well-turned stifle, short hocks, moved well.
2nd – 24 – Balvenie Fiddle Diddle JW – Mrs Schoneville – of different stamp to my class winner, still feminine, with well set ears, and nice eye colour, her neck a smidge too short to overall balance, well boned and straight fore-legs, good depth of chest and well sprung ribs, moderately rear angulated and good turn of stifle, short hocks, moved well though ever so slightly bum high, probably would have benefitted from a lager outside ring.
3rd – 19 – Hafwenna How You Doin – Ms Gray.
Class: 20 – Open (1/1)
1st – 19 - Hafwenna How You Doin – Ms Gray.
Irish Setter
Class: 42 – Puppy Bitch (1/1)
1st – 49 – Cassarla Cheeky Vimto – Miss Holmes – 9 month old bitch, still very raw and gangly, feminine head that was lean and noble, moderate stop, muzzle to skull of equal proportions, good eye colour, nice length of neck with slight arch, good shoulders, enough fore-chest, good expanse of thigh and nice turn of stifle, uncoordinated on the moved as expected in slow maturing puppies. BPIB.
Class: 46 - Limit – (1/1)
1st – 46 – Swiftlark Invincible JW – Mrs Corless – This handsome 5 year old dog presented a very nice picture on the stack, racy but balanced, elegant but masculine, head of equal proportions and parallel, pronounced occiput, a keen eye, well set ears of fine texture, good length of neck, clean with a slight crest, well laid back shoulders, good deep chest, sufficiently wide and enough fore-chest and infill, ribs well sprung and well back, clean and gently sloping topline into a strong firm short loin, well angulated behind without exaggeration, well bent stifle and short hocks, moved well with good reach and drive. BOB.
Class: 47 – Open Dog (1/2)
1st – 47 - Swiftlark Spellbinder ShCEx – Mrs Corless – 7 year old dog not showing his age at all, of similar stamp to his kennel mate in the previous class, very little difference between them, he carried all the same qualities as above, the only slight difference was this dog had an ever so slightly more obvious slope to croup and not as strong driving off from behind.
Class: 48 – Open Bitch (1/2)
1st – 45 - Swiftlark Illustrious JW – Mrs Corless – Litter sister to my Limit class winner and BOB, very feminine and pretty head, pleasing expression, good length of neck, clean shoulders, deep chest, topline a little leveller compared to her brother, still clean and firm, short strong loin, good turn of stifle and short hocks, not as clean as her brother on the move and probably would have benefitted from a larger ring.
ESS
Class: 121 - Puppy (2/3)
1st – 181 – Melverly Stateman – Mr Smith – 7 month old liver & white dog, masculine and strong head of equal proportions, good amount of stop, cheeks lean and clean, well set eyes of almond shape and good colour and a kind expression, strong muscular and clean neck, shoulders long and well-muscled with good lay back, plenty of bone, and length to pasterns, elbows in tight, body of good proportions, chest broad and deep, well sprung ribs, slight tuck up. Moved with real drive and reach and held is topline. BOB, BPIB.
2nd – 176 – Melverly State Line – Mrs & Mrs Jones & Tague – Litter brother to the winner, not as far forward in the maturity stakes, very nice head and expression, good clean neck, and lay of shoulders, nice amount of bone, would like a little more width and fore-chest and spring to ribs, a little tubular in body at this stage, clean and level topline, good turn of stifle with short hocks, and not as together as his brother on the move at the moment.
Class: 122 – Junior (1/1)
1st – 176 – Melverly State Line – Mrs & Mrs Jones & Tague.
Field Spaniel
Class: 125 - Puppy (1/2)
1st – 190 – Aust Ch Fieldspan An Unfinished Tale with Ewtor – Mrs L. Moss – 11 month old black dog, instant balance and appeal to this young dog, well presented with a striking glossy silky rich black coat, strong masculine head of good proportions, moderate stop and obvious occiput, nice amount of chiselling, good width to muzzle which was long and lean, good size and shape to ear that are set low in line with the eyes, good length and strength to neck, sloping shoulders, well boned strong forelegs, tight round feet, good amount of fore-chest, good spring to ribs that were well back, clean and level topline, well bent stifles (though the standard asks for moderate, this didn’t distract from his overall quality) and short hocks, this dog didn’t disappoint on the move with real drive and reach with the added bonus of great carriage and good use of his tail. He’s still just a youngster and needs to firm up throughout and is a smidge close behind at the moment. He’s in good hands and I’m sure he will continue to improve and be an asset to the breed. BOB, BPIB & BPIS 4.
Class: 127 – Limit (2/3)
1st – 182 – Elgert Bling Bling – Mr & Mrs Crow – This 2 year old is an honest dog with a stamp of quality and breed type throughout, masculine head with a kind eye and pronounced occiput, long muscular neck, good angles fore and aft, deep chest, ribs moderately sprung, strong level topline, nice bend to stifle, short hocks, moved well.
2nd – 188 – Sonnetend You Belong With Me at Pennybeck – Mr & Mrs Jones – a little small 3 year old bitch with a feminine head and kind expression, well pronounced occiput, nice length to neck, straight front, would like a little more strength to pasterns, clean topline, I would prefer a smidge more rear angulation, short hocks.
Class: 128 – Open (3/6)
1st – 191 – Gadhelic Jack Frost – Mrs Moss – 3 year old liver roan masculine dog, strong masculine head of good breed type, good amount of chiselling, nice almond shape eye of good colour and a gentle and kind expression, muscular long neck, well laid back shoulders, strong bone and pasterns, ribs were well sprung rather than moderately, though they were well back into a strong loin with a clean and level topline, moderate bend of stifle, would prefer a smidge more rear angulation to balance this dog overall. He moved very well with great passion, tail carriage slightly higher than the back and a little curl to the tip, which are minor to the overall quality this dog offers in a minority and numerically small breed.
2nd – 184 – Irisbel From Now On – Miss & Ms Hepburn & Laverick – This 3 and half year old dog gives an instant appeal on the stack similar in stamp to my BOB, well-presented black dog with a high sheen coat, appealing head and expression, long clean neck, good shoulder placement, straight front, lacked any width in front or fore-chest, pasterns were weak, and feet a little flat, clean level topline of good length, though a little narrow throughout for a dog when viewed from the top, good turn of stifle and well-let down hocks, moved well with nice carriage.
3rd – 187 – Ewtor Crazy Kinda Love at Pennybeck – Mr & Mrs Jones.
Weimaraner
Class: 145 – Puppy (2/4)
1st – 220- Paganpaws Lilac – Mr Summers – 7 month old bitch, attractive head, very feminine and of equal proportions, prominent occiput, enough stop and kind eyes, clean neck of medium length, would prefer her to have her sisters length of neck for overall balance, well laid back shoulders, straight front, good amount of fore-chest and depth of chest, ribs well sprung and well back, clean level topline of good length, nice rear angulation and turn of stifle, she went a little better than her sister on the move, very uncoordinated at the moment, lots of practice required on the stack and the move to get the full potential from a promising youngster. BPIB.
2nd – 219 – Paganpaws Willow – Mrs McManus – Litter sister to the winner, very pretty very feminine head, of nice proportions, beautiful round eyes with a nice keen expression, good length to neck with a slight arch, well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm, a little narrow in front and lacking the fore-chest of her sister, clean topline, good rear angulation, there were moments when stacked you could see some potential and a nice outline though the handler was struggling with her, she was very uncoordinated on the move, and her tail curled over to touch her back which distracted from her overall outline on the move. Hopefully with practice and maturity it will come together.
Class: 146 – Junior (1/2)
1st – 214 – Gunalt Beewicked – Miss & Mr Longbottom & Milby – An upstanding young male for such a young age, probably up the top end of the standard, strong masculine aristocratic head, with a slight median line, and moderate stop, kind eye, long clean muscular neck, well laid shoulders, great fore chest and depth of chest, ribs well sprung and extending well back to a short firm loin, well-turned stifle and moderately angulated behind. A little stilted in the rear movement but had good reach to front.
Class: 147 – Limit (1/2)
1st – 216 – Brownbank Willow with Raystans JW – Maskell, Rayner & Maskell – 2 and half year old bitch, pretty head, good length to neck with a slight crest, good amount of fore-chest and infill, nice bone and straight front, good depth of chest and moderate tuck-up, good expanse of thigh, slightly over angulated behind, and short hocks, didn’t flow so well on the move and required a larger ring.
Class: 148 – Open (3/4)
1st – 213 – Sh Ch Gunalt Schweppes at Caleydene JW – Mrs Isherwood – An impressive and balanced, well presented, 4 year old dog on the stack, filled your eye well. Pleasing masculine head, with a moderate stop and slight median line, kind round eye of good colour, high set ears close to head and with the slight fold, clean neck of good length and strength, well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm, straight front with good bone, tidy feet with good arch to toes, good amount of fore-chest without being excessive, deep chest with good spring of rib which extended well back, moderate tuck-up and a strong loin, his proportions from withers to elbow, and elbow to ground looked spot on as was his height to length ratio for the breed, creating the balanced picture, he had a good bend of stifle and a balanced rear assembly with good expanse of 1st & 2nd thigh, he was my best mover in the breed today, real drive and reach and that lovely breed typical carriage, easily BOB & BIS 4.
2nd – 217 – Sh Ch Enjager Elegance for Brownbank JW – Maskell, Rayner & Maskell – Just 2 years old, feminine bitch, pretty head and kind eye, graceful long neck, well laid shoulders, good amount of fore-chest, good depth to chest and spring to ribs, straight front, clean topline, good turn of stifle and expanse of thigh, short hocks. Preferred the overall balance and movement of the winner today, would have been my RBOB if that award was on offer today.
3rd – 215 – Sh Ch Gunalt Curtain Call JW – Miss & Mr Longbottom & Milby.
