Ashton In Makerfield Canine Society

CRITIQUES – ASHTON-IN-MAKERFIELD CANINE SOCIETY

SUNDAY 1st MARCH 2026

I would like to thank the Committee of Ashton-in-Makerfield for inviting me to judge Rhodesian Ridgebacks at their recent Premier Open Show at the at Sutton Leisure Centre and for their excellent hospitality. A huge thank you to my two lovely stewards Elizabet and Grant for their assistance. Thanks must also go to all those who entered on the day and entrusted me to go over their lovely hounds. All ridges, crowns and bites were correct, and most importantly, temperaments were excellent. The ring was a teeny bit small to show Ridgebacks to their full advantage, but I know this was the case for all of the larger breeds.

RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK SPECIAL YEARLING

1st - Miss J R Cyprien – Jocerik Ella Angan

A quality red wheaten feminine bitch aged 15 months shown in excellent condition. Lovely shaped head, nice pigmented eyes, good lay of shoulder, excellent topline which shone through on the move, very nice rear angulation. Tight feet and correct tail set. All in all a very balanced and well presented bitch. Handled very well. Delighted to award her Reserve BOB

2nd – Pritchard Jones – Mission Wild Wind of Luanda at Affrhoda (Imp Svk)

A quality red wheaten boy, 19 months of age shown in excellent condition. A masculine good shaped head without being too overdone, nice dark pigmented eyes, excellent lay of shoulder leading on to a lovely topline which he showed well on the move once he settled. Good first and second thigh, good hocks and nice tight feet, Nice tail set. He lost out to No. 1 due to not being able to settle in the ring. However, I am sure with practice and more socialisation he will blossom into the handsome mature young man that is desperate to get out.

RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK LIMIT

1st – Mrs A and Mrs K Kerr & Millward – Priorpark Pure Theatre at Buhera

Wow - a stunning 2 year old wheaten bitch who caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring. Shown in tip top condition she has a feminine head of correct proportions, lovely dark eyes, good neck, excellent lay of shoulder, good depth of chest, excellent topline which she held beautifully on the move. Lovely rear angulation, nice tight feet and good tail set. Very well handled. All in all a truly quality balanced functional bitch. Delighted to award her BOB.

2nd – Miss C Torr – Mannequin Tasja Arte Cassari at Bovijo (Imp Svk)

A smaller bitch than no. 1 but perfectly within breed standard. At 3 years of age she has a lovely feminine head, dark pigmented eyes, good lay of shoulder, good level topline, nice rear angles, correct tail set. She was very well handled and moved around the ring with ease, however I just preferred the type of No. 1.
