Border Collies - Judge Mandi Oliver (Tambuzi)

Thank you to the competitors for my entry of 11 [2 abs] for this judging appointment. I really appreciated everyone making the effort in not such nice weather.

I was impressed with the overall depth of quality in the dogs entered today. All with super temperaments and well presented, quite a few had left their best jackets at home though!! Overall good bites, nice length to tails, a few with a tendency to toe out in front and be cow hocked behind. The floor was a little challenging today being quite slippery, especially to the dogs who liked to move out. Thank you to Committee for the invitation to judge and huge thanks to my lovely steward Sue. And thank you to Helen for travelling with me and Ali for dog sitting.

Puppy (2, 1 abs)

Sadly, the other puppy missed her class as the show changed the order of judging and Borders went from 4th to 1st in the ring which was a shame.

1st – Miss D & Mr M Wiltshire and Rogers –Caleykiz Ignite the Passion

Handsome 7-month-old Black and White quality boy. He has a super attitude and really gives the impression he wants to work and be doing. Really nice size and leg length for his age, with a good length to height ratio. His front is developing well, nice tight feet. Loved his head, super eye shape and nice and dark, ears expressive and sensitive in use. He has good bone for his age, neither weedy nor heavy. Tail length ok, good set on of tail and nice croup. Rear angulation is developing for his age; he just needs to drop into it now. Movement was a little erratic at times, but the floor was not the best for this lad who wanted to go and get on with it.

Special Yearling Dog (1, 0 abs)

1st Mrs S Fisher – Etherial Diamond Lakes (AI) (Imp Aus)

Nearly 2-year-old Black and White Male, he has a beautiful head, good dark eye shape, and nice semi erect ears. Ok front on this lad, would prefer a little more upper arm and he does tend to turn out a little on his free stands. Feet shape good, and his height to length ratios are really nice, he has a nice top line leading into a good croup. He has excellent hind angulation; hocks could be a little shorter. Movement could be a little more animated, but true and correct.

Post Graduate Dog (1, 0 abs)

1st Mrs S Fisher – Sevinne Diamonds to Cullain

6-year-old Black and White classically marked Male, his proportions are good, front assembly would prefer a touch more upper arm, but he has decent fore chest and lay back. Head has nice proportions, good eye shape and nice head plains. His topline could be stronger, but he has nice rear angulation and stands on nice shape feet, but could be a little tighter. Tail length good. His movement was straight and true.

Open (7, 1 abs)

1st Mrs C & Miss D Wiltshire – Caleykiz Passion For Power

Lovely dark 3-year-old Black and White Bitch, she is just coming back from a litter so lacking a little of her furnishings, but nothing takes away from her lovely typey shape, and reachy breed typical movement. She has a nice head, nothing overdone. Front angulation is lovely, leading into a very nice strong topline. This flows into a super croup and ok rear angulation. Her movement she excels at as long as she doesn’t pull into the lead. But I saw enough to see nice drive, holding her shape and good reach, she really gives the impression she could move all day long.

2nd Mrs J, Miss A, Mrs H Alexander, Macdonald & Turner – Locheil Freeze Frame

Handsome 2-year-old Black and White Male who also left his Jacket at home today. But no denying his lovely breed typical shape and movement. He has a lovely head, good proportions, with a kind gentle expression and his eyes are a nice shape. His proportions are good, but his top line was a little dippy today behind the withers probably due to losing all his coat there. He has a nice croup leading into a very good tail set and length and a good rear assembly. His movement was true and correct with minimal lift of feet, nice convergence and a nice steady gait.
