Horley and District Show Society 30th August 2026

I would like to start by thanking the committee for my invitation to judge as well as thanking the exhibitors for entering today. I thoroughly enjoyed my day as this was my first breed judging appointment.

Whippet

1. Puppy (2, 0a) 1st Southwick, Mrs M, OSTERFEN HIMEJI 10-month-old quality puppy with lovely overall balance and a strong, flowing top line which he kept on the move. He displayed plenty of drive and his well-muscled hindquarters powered his movement which won him the class. BPIB

2nd Butcher, Miss H M, LOLANI MASTER OF RECIPES Attractive outline and good depth of chest, however, he presented as slightly tense today. He has well angulated hindquarters and moved well.

2. Junior (1, 0a) Lahood, Ms T, 1st STARCEYLON POLIFEMO. Pleasing expression with correct head. Good depth of chest. Lovely flowing movement throughout.

3. Postgraduate (7, 2a) 1st Boggia, Miss C BOUGHTON BERBERIS. Good sized male with correct angulation. Lovely length of neck which flows into his top line. Good depth of chest and strong loin. Free and sound movement powered by his hindquarters in profile and out and back.

2nd Leverett, Mrs S J WHIPPINESS EYES DOWN AT ELVARIA, Another good-sized male, in lovely condition with a nice head and expression. Good movement in profile holding his top line.

4. Open (6, 1a) Soffe, Miss C, 1st ZORADEN MACCHIATO JW This 5-year-old male who is not over done in any way caught my eye at once with his overall balance and freedom of movement. He has a lovely head with correct ear set. His outline flowed from head to tail. Good depth of chest with a definite tuck up and at one with his handler. BOB

2nd Longhurst, Mrs A & Miss A, ABBEYHURST DANCING QUEEN JW A very feminine girl with good angulation. She has well put together forequarters and her topline flows into her hindquarters; she really pushed hard for first place today. Overall, I just preferred the movement of 1st. RBOB

Leonberger

1. Puppy (2, 0a) 1st Simpson, Mrs L, SIMBERGER RAZZLE DAZZLE

Very pleasing puppy at 8 months, lovely bone and movement. Good depth of chest with a very lovely expression and head. Good angulation in hindquarters which really helps power his movement once he got going. BPIB, RBOB

2nd Jones, Mrs P A, SIMBERGER FLAMAZIN MAJESTY OF FLICKAN

8-month-old girl with good head and top line, good depth of chest and slight tuck up. Preferred movement of 1st today.

3. Post Graduate (1, 0a) 1st Simpson, Mrs L, DEBBOLLINBY CRAFTY IDEAS FOR SIMBERGER Feminine 14-month-old girl, good overall balance, and powerful strong movement on profile, pleasing head and good depth of chest and well-muscled hind quarters. Lovely temperament. BOB

Junior Handling

1. 6-11 years (2, 1a) 1st Sadie Giles Wyatt handling a Beagle, Kept the golden rule throughout the class, showed teeth well and always had the dog ready. A handler with a bright future.

2. 12-16 years (2, 1a) 1st Isabella Scullion handling a Whippet, showed teeth clearly when asked, had dog stacked correctly and kept the golden rule. She was aware of my position in the ring all the time and moved at the correct paces with her dog. Best overall Junior Handler

Adult Handling

1. 17-29 years (4, 1a) 1st Kaitlyn Collier handling a Rhodesian Ridgeback. A quiet handler blending into the background very well. Showed the bite cleanly and had good shadowing keeping the golden rule even with a larger dog. Clean pattern work using the ring to her advantage. Encouraged her dog the whole time. Best Adult Handler

2nd Rebecca Harvey handling a Miniature Poodle, another quiet handler blending into the background and encouraging her dog the whole way. Showed teeth cleanly and presented the dog well.

2. 30-45 years (4, 0a) 1st Em Williams handling a Cocker Spaniel, lovely, compassionate handler showing her dog off in all the right ways. Clean show of teeth and did not break the golden rule. Really pushed in the challenge, nice pattern work

2nd Jessica Knox handling a Laika, excellent communication with her dog still shadowing very well which can be challenging with a larger dog. Showed bite cleanly and followed the golden rule well.

3. 46+ (8, 6a) 1st Janet Rice handling a Tibetan Spaniel, clean pattern work, always had dog well-presented and ready. Good communication between dog and handler.

2nd Petra Gallagher handling a Doberman, a good quiet handler who showed teeth cleanly and shadowed very well. Used the ring to her advantage with a larger dog.
