Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge and to my stewards Mary & Annie who worked so hard all day. Thanks to all exhibitors each entry was appreciated. It was rather hot and stuffy in our ring however all dogs coped admirably. 


Pastoral Adult Group


Grp 1 PMD– Pollard – CH GILLANDANT SIMPLY THE BEST

6 yr old female in absolute prime condition, oozing breed type. Femininity, size and substance all in one package. Lovely head of excellent proportions, dark almond eye with good pigment. Tight lips. Good neck and front, broad chest reaching just below her neat elbows. Lovely shape producing a level top-line both static and moving. Matching front and rear angulation with well-muscled rear quarters used to best advantage moving with ease around the ring.


Grp 2 OES - Miller – CH MELLOWDEE FANCY NANCY FOR MILLWINKIE JW (breed critique)


Grp 3 Swedish Vallhund – Day, Lampen & Wilson VALLHOLLOW BORN IN THE USA ST FOR ROSCO (IMP USA)

2 yr old grey sable male of good size and substance. Sturdy looking with good proportions. Wedge head with dark, oval eye, black pigment and ears that provide excellent expression. Level topline, slight tuck-up, standing on well boned legs. True and sound on the move, showing typical gait, at a steady pace on loose lead - not a flash ‘n dash breed but so fit for function.

Grp 1 OES – Gould – MERDELAINES INSTAGLAM (breed critique)


Grp 2 Samoyed - Mann– VANDREEM IMPERIAL LINKEN

Mature 9 mths, with striking outline that cannot be ignored. Beautifully presented coat of good texture and topped it off with great ring presence. Lovely wedge-shaped head with great pigment. Oblique eyes and good ears. Nicely arched neck, balanced angulation, depth of ribcage holding a strong topline and well carried tail. Positive on the move with powerful stylish action displaying real drive from behind. Pushed the winner all the way. Handler really got the best out of him (Shortlisted in the adult group)


Grp 3 Rough Collie - Cooper – KELEKONA PEARLS OF HOPE

9 mth sable. Good expression, nicely balanced head, parallel planes, correct stop and decent underjaw. Excellent height to length ratio. Totally sound coming and going. Showed good reach and drive with a well carried tail. Beautifully presented, correctly textured coat that enhanced her conformation. Good length to back with balanced front and rear angulations with parallel low set hocks. Still has plenty of time to tighten up all round and drop a little further into frame.


Grp 4 Pembroke Corgi – Down – CRESLOW DOWN DERRY DREAMER WITH ELESSAR 

Tricolour male at the end of puppy career showing good overall balance and body proportions - strong and sturdy looking. Pleasing head and expression - flat skull, moderate stop, dark eyes and well set ears, with enough underjaw. Decent reach of neck, well laid shoulder and return of upper arm, strong bone, chest developing, level topline continuing into long tail Moderate bend of stifle and well let down hocks. Free moving with strong driving action covering the ground well.

1 Reynolds – Beabeardies Blue Velvet JW BOB

Lovely outline of correct proportions, appealed for balance, shape and type. Broad skull and strong muzzle. Soft, gentle expression but all male. Moderate neck into well laid shoulders and matching return of upper arm. Enough rib reaching well back and strong loin. Spot on height to length ratio. Smooth and supple on the move covering the ground with ease, dropped into himself showing minimal foot lift. Held a level stable topline. Muscular rear, strong parallel hocks. Handled to advantage.  


2 Bevis – Beabeardies Blue Monday

Sibling of the winner. Lovely expression with eye colour toning with coat. Not quite the shoulder placement of winner. Enough ribbing and good loin. Decent bone, feet and pasterns. Correct harsh double coat beautifully presented. Could not quite match the winner’s side profile on the move.

1 Bevis – Beabeardies Cinnamon Girl RBOB

5 yr old. Mum of the previous class entries and the apples have not fallen far from the tree. Ultra feminine, of sound construction with no exaggerations. Feminine head, broad flat skull, enough strength to the muzzle. Good eye shape, harmonising with coat colour give a gentle expression. Moderate neck, OK shoulder placement flowing into a firm/level topline. Good turn of stifle and short below hock ensured she moved out smoothly with enough reach and drive. Tail set on low with correct carriage. Preferred the silhouette and rear drive of BOB today.

1 Scadding – JARAZ DAY FOR NIGHT TO ASTARVINIE RBOB

Balanced head with decent skull/muzzle set on parallel planes. Enough underjaw. Dark expressive eye. Good height to length ratio with elegant silhouette. Standing on good legs and feet. Did not get it together on the move today as wide behind and needing to settle.

1 Fowler & Mancey – TOPTUNE ANGELEYES BOB

5 yr old, now in full bloom. Lovely breed type - elegance and strength without any exaggerations and good muscle tone. Dark, keen, oblique set eye, balanced head proportions with parallel planes and moderate stop. Enough underjaw. Super arch to neck, well placed shoulders and matching return upper-arm. Firm topline kept on the move. Balanced front and rear angulations, moderate bend of stifle, correct croup and tailset. Movement – brisk, light and graceful covering the ground

1 Scadding – JARAZ FABULOUS ME TO AYSHAVINNIE RBOB

Youngster who was not sure of the surroundings and did not really settle into showing mode. OK head showing parallel planes, correct stop and good eye colour/shape/set. Scissor bite. Moderate neck and good height to length proportions. Needing to build confidence and time to mature. Movement was difficult to assess today.

1 Elliot & Brown – SEZANNE AFIRE LOVE BOB

4 yr old dog, very well put together, free from exaggeration with lovely proportions. Good ring presence and at one with handler. Masculine head, dark almond eye with firm ears perfectly set.

Reach of neck flows into well angled front. Enough depth to brisket and well ribbed. Good turn of stifle and parallel hocks. True movement coming/going, balanced coordinated, covering the ground fluently holding outline throughout. Precise accurate footfall. Well set carried tail.

1Musk & Bingham – PARABAR PUMPKIN PIE

8 mths and certainly alert and energetic with a rather endearing personality. Nice head proportions with moderate stop and alert ears. Dark eye but would prefer a little more almond shape. Ample bone for a puppy with correct front assembly showing nice leg/pastern/feet and correct angulation. Enough ribbing extending well back. Firm level topline and high tailset. Low set parallel hocks that once settled used to good advantage on the move.

1 Budd – KAVALO DANCING IN THE DARK

Feminine bitch looking capable of a day’s work. Nice proportions with nothing exaggerated. Flat skull with enough width and dark wide set eyes. Well placed stop. OK lay of shoulder and elbow tight to ribs. Standing of good legs and feet. Ribs reaching well back and sturdy loin. Parallel hocks. Moved with purpose.


2 Musk & Bingham – KAVALO TOUGHER THAN THE REST 

Mature in body with a good shoulder placement, firm level top line, ribcage extending well back, Short strong loin. well angulated front and rear, high tail set carried well. Enough reach and driving rear action coming from low-set hocks. Just preferred the eye set and expression of his litter sister.

1 Budd -PARABAR PRIMROSA RBOB

Liver and tan. Feminine in outlook and showing lots of character in a small package. Sturdy and alert. Pleasing head of good proportions, good width to skull and nicely tapered to nose that harmonised with colouring. Almond-shaped eyes. Clean neck of decent length, enough forechest, and deep brisket. Short-coupled. moved with drive, not quite the energy and topline of BOB.

Smart bitch turned out in good order, soundly constructed showing balance. Correct height to length proportions. Standing of the best of legs, well boned. Excellent on the move. Level topline, good tailset and rib/coupling proportions were spot on. Well-presented double coat

1 Gould – MERDELAINES INSTAGLAM BP & PG1 / RBOB

I really fell for this 6-month-old baby. Lovely balance to back skull and muzzle. Good eye with fabulous pigmentation. Strong neck leading to well laid shoulder and correct return of upper arm. Short body with pleasing back line and ribbing extends well back with sturdy loin. Super bone for a youngster ended in the best of feet. Balanced moderate front/rear angulations, rear quarters used to full advantage on the move going round at a sensible pace and so composed and collected for age. Shown in great puppy coat. Loved her overall proportions, shape and breed type.


2 Pullen – MEADOWBEARS MASTER OF MAGIC

Another lovely baby, so unfortunate to meet winner. Same age as 1 but more mature in all aspects. Good head proportions, correct stop and strong muzzle. Wide set eye, one wall but dark pigment throughout. Plenty of bone and substance to this lad. For age well sprung ribs and enough brisket. Great legs and feet. Correct puppy coat. Just not quite as co-ordinated on the move as winner.

1 Miller – CH MELLOWDEE FANCY NANCY FOR MILLWINKIE JW BOB & GRP2

4-year-old quality girl excelling in size, proportions and outline. Excellent head properties and strength to muzzle. Dark pigment throughout. Presented a square outline with arched neck of good length, excellent ribbing, deep through the brisket and muscular loin with lovely rounded rump. Standing on the best of legs, well boned. Excellent on the move covering the ground effortlessly - on top form today. Good quality harsh coat beautifully presented.

1 Biggs – WHITEHEMI’S COUNTACH FIONNCONRI (Swiss White Shepherd)

18 mth mature in stature with good length to height ratio. Nice wedge shaped head, parallel planes and OK stop. Dark almond/oblique set eye give masculine expression. Lip line tight with good pigment throughout. Well-set erect ears. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders and return of upper arm. Sturdy body, with sensible topline and croup. Moderately angulated throughout. Sound moving with accurate footfall though I would have liked to see a bit more drive from the rear. Well-presented double coat of correct texture.

AV Pastoral Veteran (11,5)

Some lovely dogs in this class – proving that “age is just a number”. The top 3 were all excellent examples, my toughest decision of the day, and I can see they all carry their titles. Credit to their owners for keeping them in tip-top condition


1 Day – CH STARVON BINIT SINIT DUNIT WITH KIRKHOLME (Swedish Vallhund)

9 yr. Sturdy looking with great proportions. Wedge head with dark, oval eye, black pigment and ears that provide typical expression. Level topline, slight tuck-up, standing on well boned legs. Really came alive on the move, showing typical gait, at a steady pace on loose lead. Moving true in all directions with good extension without excessive foot lift. Spot on for size/substance. Well-muscled with enviable body condition.



2 Taylor & Wells – CH LAFITTE DE MOORSTILE CHEZ SHELRIDGE (IMP FRA) JW VW (Shetland Sheepdog) 

9 ½ yrs Sable good on for size, presenting aa shapely silhouette. In good condition with lovely clean teeth. Flat, parallel head planes, good stop giving a masculine expression – dark oblique eyes and ears were textbook. Correct height to length ratio. OK neck into straight front would prefer a little more front angulation. Light effortless movement. Holding a wealth of correctly textured coat

Really liked this B&T puppy and most unlucky to meet 1. If only there were 2 red cards. 8 mnths and showing oodles of promise. Head of good proportions, lovely muzzle, oval eye, well set ears. Matching moderate front and rear angulations. Well ribbed for age reaching well back. Standing on nicely boned legs and strong pasterns ended in nice tight feet. Level topline held both static and moving. Strong loin and good croup. Well set tail, reaching hock, double dew-claws present. Sound both ways showing good reach & drive. Shown in good coat & condition.

Tri dog. Masculine head – parallel planes, dark eyes though could be a little more oblique, well-tipped ears with enough underjaw. Little more length to neck and back would enhance overall shape. Enough ribbing and dept to chest and sweep over croup. Movement steady holding topline, front angulation restricted reach just a little. Good rear angulation. Well-presented jet black correctly textured jacket

1 Chambers – VALENTO ENIGMA CODE (Lhasa Apso)

Gold bitch just reached her first birthday scoring highly for size and balance bursting with charisma/style/showmanship. Lovely head, appealing expression coming from oval dark eye. Good pigment throughout. Arch to neck, good front with excellent angulations. Strong topline, plumed tail carried over back at all times. Synchronized flowing movement, with great deportment - using hindquarters to advantage. Beautifully presented and handled.


2 Samuels – WINTER MELODY NOT THAT DRAMATIC YET AT HAZYLIGHTS (IMP POL) (Siberian Husky)

Top end of age limit – showing maturity. Lovely proportions and balance. Workmanlike in structure with good core strength and musculature. Harsh coat well presented – even at the end of a long, hot day, moved with real drive and enthusiasm.
