Firstly, my thanks to Guildford & District Canine Society for the invitation to judge and to my steward for keeping everything running so smoothly. Thank you to everyone who entered under me and accepted my decisions with good grace. There was some lovely quality throughout the entry and several exhibits that will stay in my memory for a long time. My principal winners were all worthy representatives of their breeds and it was a pleasure to spend the day judging such a variety of exhibits. I thoroughly enjoyed the appointment and look forward to judging many of these dogs again in the future.
A V. Imported Breed Register Utility – Junior
1st – 419 Yulyeong A Higher Power (Mrs A & Mrs K Allen & Wells) – Korean Jindo
Raw youngster who was clearly still recovering from a previous scare and therefore found the atmosphere a little overwhelming at times. Despite this, there was plenty to admire and he showed enough quality to suggest a bright future ahead. Attractive head with a pleasing expression, good eye shape and correct ear carriage. Well balanced overall with a sound framework underneath. Once he gains confidence and ring experience I feel he will be able to show himself to much better advantage. A promising youngster with plenty of potential.

An exhibit who immediately impressed with her elegance, style and overall breed type. Feminine without losing substance, beautifully balanced throughout and presented in outstanding condition. Her skin was in fabulous condition and clearly well cared for. Attractive head and expression with clean lines throughout. Moved with purpose and drive, covering the ground effortlessly whilst maintaining her outline. A stylish and eye-catching exhibit who thoroughly deserved Best of Breed.

Pretty bitch who was slightly reserved initially but settled sufficiently to allow a good assessment. Attractive feminine head with a pleasing expression and good ear carriage. Well balanced throughout with a sound body and correct proportions. Moved well once settled and showed herself confidently enough to secure Reserve Best of Breed and Best Puppy in Breed. A nice example of the breed.
A.V. Utility Veteran

Quality veteran who belied his years in every respect. Masculine without coarseness, carrying himself with confidence and presence throughout. Attractive head and expression with excellent breed type. Well constructed throughout with good substance and muscle tone, testament to his condition and fitness. Moved with power and purpose, maintaining his shape at all times. A pleasure to judge and a thoroughly deserving Best Veteran and Best of Breed winner.
2nd – 558 Quidditch A Touch Of Sass (Ms E Hadlow)
A glamorous Tibetan Terrier presented in excellent coat and condition. Lovely breed type with large, well cushioned feet, strong quarters and a square outline. Moved soundly and showed herself well throughout. Unfortunately tended to drop her tail at times which ultimately cost her the class, but nevertheless a quality veteran who remains an excellent representative of the breed.
Chow Chow
210. Post Graduate (1,0)
1st & BOB – 447 Blue Bang (Ms N Small)
Although alone in the breed, this exhibit certainly did not disappoint. Blue male of excellent type and substance with impressive bone throughout. Masculine head with characteristic expression and well-set ears. Strong neck leading into a firm topline, with well-developed musculature and correct body proportions. Particularly admired his low hocks and overall strength of construction. Moved with the correct pendulum action expected of the breed, maintaining his outline throughout. Presented in excellent coat and condition and a worthy Best of Breed winner.

Presented in excellent condition and was my winner in a competitive class.

A very appealing young dog who pushed hard for the top spot. I actually preferred his front construction and forehand to the winner, with good bone and substance throughout. Attractive head and expression with plenty of breed character. Unfortunately he was rather erratic on the move today which affected his overall presentation and ultimately cost him first place. Nevertheless, a quality exhibit with much to admire.

Well-made mature dog of pleasing type. Attractive masculine head with excellent eye shape and expression, one of his strongest features. Good hindquarters and overall construction with a balanced outline. Moved soundly and efficiently although tended to drop his tail at times which affected the final picture. Nevertheless, a quality exhibit and deserving of Reserve Best of Breed.

A super male who immediately appealed for his overall quality and breed type. Excellent expression with correct head proportions and ear placement. Soundly constructed throughout with everything exactly where it should be. Good body proportions, firm topline and balanced angles. Moved out freely and confidently with good reach and drive. A shame he was unable to stay for the Group as he would certainly have been competitive there.
2nd – 509 Zandvoort Eternal Flame for Pyrekees (Mr M & Ms S Henson & Dearman)
My notes simply say “cheeky girl,” which sums up her delightful attitude perfectly. Attractive bitch with a beautiful front assembly and sound hindquarters. Balanced outline and pleasing expression. Moved out soundly and showed herself well throughout.

A worthy third placing in a quality class. Feminine bitch with pleasing breed type, shown in good condition and moved soundly around the ring.
Miniature Schnauzer
244. Post Graduate (3,2)
1st, RBOB – 521 Marnimica Seven Wonders (Ms C A Johnson)
Feminine bitch of pleasing breed type who presented a balanced outline and many attractive qualities. Unfortunately she was clearly unhappy on the flooring which made a full assessment of her movement difficult. Nevertheless, what I was able to see impressed, particularly her overall construction, proportions and breed character. Attractive head with correct expression, good neck and topline. Presented in excellent condition and worthy of the class win and Reserve Best of Breed.
245. Open (5,3)
1st, BOB & Utility Group 4 – 524 Risepark Style Setter (Miss T & Miss L & Mr J Saunders, Parker & McDonald)
A bitch I had admired from ringside on previous occasions and she certainly lived up to expectations when judged. Beautifully balanced throughout with a lovely outline, correct breed proportions and excellent substance without exaggeration. Feminine head with keen expression, well-set ears and excellent presentation. Groomed and handled to perfection. Moved soundly and accurately in all directions, holding her shape throughout. During the final Group challenge she was clearly feeling the cold and tended to tuck herself underneath slightly which prevented her showing to absolute advantage, but her quality still shone through. A quality exhibit whom I have no doubt will achieve further Group success.
2nd – 522 Xebec Warlock with Daladeez (Imp Deu) (Ms C A & Mrs G Johnson & Wise)
Smart black dog with an attractive masculine head and excellent ear carriage. Well presented and correctly groomed to accentuate his virtues. Balanced throughout with good bone and substance. Moved steadily and soundly around the ring although I would have preferred a little more animation and ring presence to challenge harder for top honours today.
