City of Cambridge & County Canine Society – Open Show 13th June 2026

Critique – Lloyd Cross

I would like to thank the committee for their kind invitation to judge at their summer open show and for the excellent assistance of my steward on the day. We were blessed with pleasant weather throughout the day, and I was very pleased with the quality of my main winners throughout the breeds and in my group placings.

BGVG

Post Grad (1,0)

1. Marshalls Claela Laughter is timeless with Soufriere. 19-month bitch of sound construction, maturing nicely. Good head and expression. Lovely hind angulation and correct tail set.

Open (2,0)

1. Marshalls Soufriere One Vision JW VW. Lovely honest and very sound lady of 8 years. Loved her free-flowing movement and great sound build holding a lovely outline at all times. Not showing her age at all and impressed in front construction with nice tight elbows and correct front. BOB

2. Marshalls Soufriere Pasarelle Bateau. Nicely put together male rising 5 years. Moved out well but just referred the tighter front construction and movement of his kennel companion on the day. RBOB

RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK

Open (2,0)

1. Catharells Kinabula’s Making Magic for Faahac JW. 2-year-old male of super elegant clean lines. Masculine correct head, super neck into well angulated shoulders correctly placed. Good strong topline both on the move and free standing. Lovely free flowing movement and good parallel action. BOB

2. Doughtys Rubiltra Farshirovannya. 18-month male with strong proportions. Sound construction throughout with correct action however I preferred the easier flowing movement and outline on the move of the winner. RBOB

AVNSC HOUND

Puppy (1,0)

1. Osbourne’s Beaujons Sophie avec Braego (PGBV) Lovely outgoing 10-month bitch of elegant lines. Lovely head and expression nice dark eye. Lovely strong muscled neck into correct shoulders. Really used her hindquarters with drive a very smart puppy. BP

Junior (2,1)

1. Moore’s Tangaer Jump for Joy (PBGV). 13-month feminine exhibit showing excellent drive in movement. Nice outline both on the move and free standing. Would prefer a stronger front and less turn out of the feet. Super strong topline on the move.

Post Graduate (3,1)

1. Mullens El Roalito Keep Smiling (Imp Deu) (Afghan Hound). Smart 7-year male who enjoys his showing. Good head and eye, nice expression. Holding a good outline both in the free stand and on the move today. Presented in great condition, great muscle tone and has elegance. RBOB

2. Moore’s Probert Calypso (PBGV) Sound bitch of 3 years, good head and eye, strong neck into correct shoulders. Well angulated hindquarters. Just preferred the elegant flowing movement of the winner on the day.

Open (4,3)

1. Osbourne’s Beaujons Wayne Sleep with Braego. (PBGV) 2.5 years male who I have judged before. I really like this exhibit – he is a complete extrovert and a bit of a clown, but his qualities cannot be denied. Strong sound outline with great muscle tone, super strong topline, and drive in the hind action. A delight to judge. BOB

AV Hound Veteran (7,3)

1. Samson’s Zoraden Surprise Edition at Romanclove (Whippet). A super sound male of almost 10 years. Showing nothing of his age in condition and movement. Lovely shape and lines both on the stack and in movement. Strong front, flowing neck into lovely top and underline. Very well angulated hind quarters used with purpose on the move. Won this class in good company. Best Veteran Hound

2. Paskins Cedavoch It’s Taboo at Kindeace (L/H Dachs) A super sound male of 8.5 years who I have judged previously and highly awarded. Still showing great ring presence and sound strong movement at all times. Was splitting hairs with 1st and 2nd but the winner just had the extra sparkle on the move.

HOUND GROUP

Group 1 - Dr C & Mrs C Sheppard’s Ch. Gaelmarque Treasured by Goldswift JW

Stunning Irish Wolfhound bitch rising 5 years. A great combination of strength, soundness, balance, and elegance. Beautiful, elegant long head with kind expression held nice & high on the move flowing into a long muscular arched neck. Super set of shoulder and strong straight front with nicely tucked in elbows. Lovely width and depth of chest flowing into a nicely arched loin. I felt very balanced in height to length. Great muscle tone in the hindquarters well angulated with a nice turn of stifle and strong hocks giving a super parallel sound rear construction. Excelled in a strong ground covering elegant flowing movement - literally head and shoulders above her competition on the day. Absolutely filled my eye and delighted to watch her go Best in Show later in the day.

Group 2 - Thomas’ Bowdonia Sky Full of Stars JW Beautiful Whippet, another commanding attention. Super sound throughout with lovely flowing elegant top and underlines. Stood full square on lovely tight feet, nice tight elbows and good parallel strong front and rear construction. Holding a beautiful body shape both on the move and in free stand. Covered good ground using her well made hindquarters to advantage – unlucky to meet the winner on the day.

Group 3 – Paskins Delsaux Life Goes on at Kindeace, Standard Long Haired Dachshund presented beautifully and another eye-catching exhibit in this group full of quality. Good head and nice dark almond eye. Correctly angulated shoulders/front and a good strong prosternum. Stood on nice tight feet. Neat at the elbow and presented a lovely flowing topline both on the move and in free stand. Strong hindquarters and good turn of stifle with strong parallel hocks. Moved with a nice easy flowing gait. Lovely exhibit.

Group 4 – Taylors Whitewebbs Obi Wan, Miniature Smooth Haired Dachshund puppy of 10 months. Has a beautiful head, dark eye, and kind expression, holding a lovely outline at all times. A little unnerved by the conditions at times but a super top-quality dachshund that will go on to do very well.

HOUND PUPPY GROUP

Group 1 – Osbourne’s Cloudside Xander around Braego, Std Wire Haired Dachshund right out of the top drawer. A super example of balance and strength – masculine head without coarseness dark eye, lovely strong arched neck and lovely laid-back shoulders allowing great reach in the front movement. Lovely level topline held on the move and freestanding. Really strong well angulated hindquarters that were used to advantage showing real drive. A lovely puppy that should do very well.

Group 2 – Morland & Soffe’s Zoraden Meant to Beaver, beautifully elegant Whippet bitch of 9 months. Another with a look at me outline and attitude. Elegant head and eye, beautiful neck and shoulder, correct strong parallel front, super top and underline and well angulated hindquarters with strong stifles and nice straight hocks. Moved with style covering good ground. Pushed the winner hard.

AV VETERAN STAKES

1. Wilson’s Hameldowntor Music of the Night VW (Flat Coated Retriever) 10 years and not showing it at all. In super condition, beautiful outline both in the free stand and on the move. Great head and strong muscled neck. Super shoulder placement showing true reach and drive and lovely parallel movement. A lovely exhibit very well handled.

2. Fairhurst’s Fairlenium’s Iron Man (Staffordshire Bull Terrier) 9-year male that caught my eye as he entered the ring. Super sound with a classy head and lovely compact muscular body. Impressed on the move with a great display of showmanship.

3. Dummett’s Letjashaja Ptitsa Saint Pierre at Almondsbury (Imp Rus) American Cocker Spaniel.
