Isle Of Wight Gundog Club

Breed: Gundog

Isle of Wight Gundog Club 12.09.2026

Many thanks for the invitation to judge at this show, it is a favourite of mine, i love the island, many childhood memories here. It goes without saying that it is a well run show, entries across the board have dropped, but the atmosphere is always good here, im hopeful that this club can continue for years to come. There were some quality exhibits to go over, thank you to those who entered under me and supported me at this appointment.

Bracco Italiano

Open

1st Cotton’s Braccorions Zigga Zig Arh

3 years old, lovely head with correct planes and soft expression. Good neck into well laid back shoulders, i’d prefer more length of upper arm. Correct topline, tailset and carriage. Moderate bend of stifle, moved well. Best of Breed.

Retriever (Curly Coated)

Post Graduate

1st Whitehead’s Foxriever’s The Sorceress

8 Months old, impressive and well balanced in outline. Correct head and expression. She had the best front angulation in this class, good neck and forechest. Good depth of brisket and strong topline. Well let down hocks with moderate rear angles. Good tailset and carriage. On the move was slightly erratic due to puppy behaviour but good movement when settled. Best Puppy

2nd Miller’s Foxriever The Seeker

Litter brother to 1. Showing similar attributes and qualities. His temperament let him down in this class needs more confidence. Moved okay needs to strengthen behind.

Limit

1st Sutton’s Foxriever Immortal Spirit

Balanced male showing reasonable breed type. A bit strong in the head for me. Good length of neck into reasonably laid shoulders, good return of upper arm and good depth of brisket. Good topline and tailset, would prefer better angles all through. Moved soundly.

Open

1st Whitehead’s Foxriever Sea Fyre JW

Balanced bitch showing nice outline, pretty head and good expression. Excellent front assembly and strong depth and topline. Would prefer a better tail carriage. Moved well in this class. Best of Breed.

Retriever (Chesapeake Bay)

Special Yearling

1st Mayhew’s Arnac Bay Kansas

Super puppy of 6 months old. Excellent temperament, happy being gone over. Well constructed all through for his age. Good bone and substance. Moved well. Best of Breed and Best Puppy shame he wasn't in either groups, i feel he has a bright future.

2nd Baxandall’s Battsrock Ashes to Ashes for Sharbae

It would be fair to say that I swallowed by pride with this bitch. On the stack she showed such quality and breed type. She had excellent bone and feet. Very precise on the move, clean in all directions. Completely let herself down as I couldn’t go over her. Reserve Best of Breed.

Retriever (Golden)

Junior

1st Lewis’ Zenevieva Million Dollars for Fairwinds (ai) (IKC)

This bitch has a lovely outline so typical of the breed. I would like a better head piece, more work and strength needed in this area however, she has good pigment. Her overall construction is very good. Correct front angles, id prefer limbs to be a little straighter in front, good ribbing, level topline and good tailset. On the move she is free and easy stride, straight on the out and back. She’s one i’d like to see in a year or two.

2nd Wainwright’s Ashbyglen I Dreamed a Dream JW

16 month old male, who gave his handler a hard time, he displayed a very outgoing temperament. A touch strong in head and shorter in neck than desirable. Reasonable length of upper arm, good bone and substance. Sound when settled. Well presented, just lacking the finish here of the winner.

Post Graduate

1st Lewis’ Zenevieva Million Dollars for Fairwinds (ai) (IKC)

Repeat

Open

1st Lewis’ Fairwinds In Space Man JW

This male presents an excellent outline and is extremely well presented. His head for me could do with being a bit more refined and expression a little softer. There isn’t anything to fault in his construction and that showed with his sound and true movement. Excellent tail carriage and happy outgoing temperament. Best of Breed.

2nd Gayler’s Carolake X’Marks The Spot JW

Another good exhibit. Good head would prefer a better eye shape. Well constructed through similar attributes as 1 but not the presentation of the winner. I know its only an open show but when nit picking this will come into factor. Reserve Best of Breed.

Retriever (Labrador)

Post Graduate

1st Wallace’s Dreammake For Tiaja (Imp DNK)

Typey bitch in shape but would prefer a slightly more typical head. Good front angulation, good depth, could do with shedding a pound or 2. Moved cleanly in all directions and sound in profile, would prefer a better tail carriage.

2nd White’s Lunarpet Born Free

Another a little plain in head. Good neck and shoulders good spring of rib and good depth. Topline rose over the loin standing and moving which cost her the class.

Open

1st Wallace’s Tiaja Love in the Sun

Showing her age a little today at 9 years old, however she has beautiful type, good neck into shoulders, good depth and spring of rib. Good topline and tailset, sound on the move. Best of Breed.

2nd White’s Lunarpet Tails of the River

4 years old nice style, too strong in head for me for a bitch. Not the neck of 1. Good front angulation. Good depth of chest, good ribs and level topline. Correct tail carriage. Didn’t have the elegance of 1. Reserve Best of Breed. I was made aware by the handler it was a shock to come 2nd and that i really mustn’t of liked her dogs, but I don’t know any of the dogs, their previous wins or anything about them personally, therefore i’m judging them on what's in front of me and not what they have won prior. It's the judges decision on the day and such should be taken with grace and good sportsmanship.

Lagotto Romagnolo

Special Yearling

1st Drake’s Il Granaio Del Malatesta Livia Drusilla Per Clamerkin (Imp Ita)

Good head and expression. Well laid shoulders. Needs time, not the maturity of older kennel mates of course. A promising exhibit showing many great attributes.

Open

1st Drake’s Clamerkin Painted Lady

Another showing good breed type, good head and expression. Good neck into well laid shoulders. Good depth, level topline and tailset. Comes alive on the move, very sound. Best of Breed.

2nd Drake’s Mikette How Far I’ll Go to Clamerkin

Another with a good head and expression. Showing good overall type. Similar attributes to 1, just preferred the movement on 1. Reserve Best of Breed.

Spaniel (Cockers)

Post Graduate

1st Blackley’s & Salero’s Wightroche Calla Lilly

Very typey bitch exquisite head and expression. Excellent length of neck into good shoulders. Good spring of ribs, a tad long through the loin. Well let down rear. Movement very typical of the breed. Very clean in all directions. Reserve Best of Breed.

Open

1st Blackley’s & Salero’s Wighroche The Bee JW

Another type Cocker from this kennel. Displaying a gorgeous head and expression. Correct neck into well placed shoulders. Correct depth, bone, ribbing and topline. Just preferred the more cobby look of this bitch over her kennel mate. Best of Breed and RBIS congratulations!

I’d like to mention that it was really appreciated how well presented both exhibits were, it definitely, without a doubt gives them the ‘edge’. Thank you.
