Breed: Gundog Group Show

East Anglian Gundog Society

Friday 3rd April 2026

I’d like to thank the Society for the kind invitation to judge at this very well-run show. To the exhibitors for giving up their Good Friday to support the Society and myself, this is very much appreciated as I know it’s a tricky time with other commitments to consider. I’d also like to thank my very able steward, Sue.

1st Gammon Glenbrows Opera D’arte JW

Super bitch of 22 months, balanced outline, with a pretty feminine head that is balanced and with eye colour slightly darker than coat colour and of the correct shape. Her neck is of good length leading to a level topline. She is straight in front with good bone and tight feet. Her chest is of good depth, and she has strength through the loins, she is well angled front and rear. She moved out with a lively trot and covered the ground well. BOB

Open 2 (1)

1st Gammon Glenbrows Reminiscent

2 years bitch, who’s head is balanced with good eye shape and colour. She is straight in front with good bone, I would have liked more fore chest, although she has ample depth, she has good angulation and moderately bent stifle. She moves well in profile, but she was a little close at the rear. I preferred the overall balance and movement of her kennel mate. RBOB

Junior 2

1st Pavitt, Pavitt, Whitehead & Whitehead Foxriever Fire Cracker

I thought this a smart 17 month black male. His head is still developing but it’s of the correct wedge shape. He makes a good shape when stacked with strong neck leading into level topline, he is well off for depth. He is well boned, with neat feet. He moved out well in profile. RBOB

2nd Sutton, Whitehead & Whitehead Foxriever Fire Fly

Litter mate to 1, this liver male has a lovely masculine head, I liked his substance, correct length of neck, straight in front, he is well boned with good feet. He wasn’t showing himself off today, so was losing his topline. He moved well in profile.

Post Graduate 1

1st Sutton, Whitehead & Whitehead Foxriever Immortal Spirit

I was impressed with this rising two years black male. He has a lovely outline of correct proportions. Super masculine head that is of the correct shape. He flows from his strong muscular neck to his tail. He is well off for body having good depth and fore chest, ribs well sprung, good angulation both front and rear with good width of thigh and moderately bent stifle. His movement is powerful in profile with good extension and is parallel. No hesitation in awarding him BOB and pleased to see him make the short list for BIS.

Open 2

1st Sutton, Whitehead & Whitehead Foxriever Grey Ghost SGWC

This three-year-old liver dog is all male. He is handsome in head; his neck is of good length and muscular. His body is well made with plenty of substance, deep through chest with well sprung ribs. Bone is strong with tight feet. Rear quarters are muscular with moderately bent stifle and good width of thigh. He moved out well.

2nd Whitehead, Whitehead & Sutton Foxriever Sea Fyre JW

This is a lovely feminine black bitch, that I thought would be my winner on first inspection. Her head is correctly shaped, when stood she is of correct proportions, moderate length of neck, into level topline. Her chest is deep and she is well angled at both ends, with good bend of stifle. I just preferred the rear movement and tail carriage of 1.

What a sweet seven-year-old bitch this is, she has a pretty head with kind expression. Decent length of neck into her strong level topline. She has good body proportions, with a straight front and neat feet. She moves out so well, with good reach and drive, she just needs to use her tail. Best Import

1st Middleton-Collins Berrymeade Dream on with Jasperleigh JW SGWC (Retriever Golden)

Close decision between the first two in this class

Lovey masculine 21-month male, I was really taken with him. Balanced masculine head, strong muscular neck that is of good length, correct front angulation with good return of upper arm that places his forelegs well under him. He has ample depth of chest and well sprung ribs. His front is straight, and he has correct bone and good feet. His rear quarters are strong with good bend of stifle and width of thigh. He moved out well in all directions.

2nd Barham Droveborough Witchy Woman JW (Pointer)

Stylish young bitch with lovely balanced pretty head. She makes a lovely shape when stood, flowing, as she should from head to tail. She has good depth with well sprung ribs. She is straight in front with decent bone, she moved out well using her well-muscled rear quarters.
