Utility Group

I’d like to thank the committee of Cambuslang for inviting me to judge the utility group at their recent open show. I had an enjoyable day with many quality exhibits to judge. Thanks to my stewards Mandy & Jan for keeping the ring running smoothly, and thanks to the exhibitors for allowing me to judge their dogs.

Graduate (6,1)

1st King’s Karamyst Showstopper Jw.

Beautifully presented 20 month b/w bitch. Well-balanced, moderate and square. Good width and depth to chest. Nicely ribbed with correct topline and tailset. Good bend of stifle & short, neat hocks. Well proportioned head with dark eye and good pigment. Moved well, driving from her well-muscled hindquarters. BOB & G3 in a very strong line up.

2nd Dykes’ Kashi Nice Girls Don’t

And what a nice girl she is! This 11 month puppy appealed for her beautiful balance & structure. Well-made throughout with everything as it should be at this stage. Shown in lovely condition. Balanced head with dark eye and definitely showed a resolute expression! Moved well with good driving action. Unlucky to meet 1st, who has the finish in body and coat today. Thoroughly enjoying her time showing off. I will watch her with interest.

Well-balanced shaded red dog with excellent bone and substance. Good head with broad, flat skull, dark, oval eyes and good pigment. Compact body with well-sprung ribs & deep chest. Topline was level with good tailset. Reluctant to move at first, but moved freely when he got going. He has a good coat of correct texture, which was well presented. BOB

SHIH TZU

Open (4,1)

1st Cooke’s Thaisu Sister Bliss

Beautiful b/w female who oozes breed type. Her head and expression is first class with a broad rounded skull, well-placed round, dark eyes & prominent chin. Correct size and shape with level topline and high-set tail. Good height to length ratio with good ribbing and compact loin. Correct size & very sturdy. Moved well with drive, showing full pad. Thick coat which was well-presented. Just lacked a little confidence today. BOB

JAPANESE SHIBA INU

Open (6,1)

1st Best - Rawlings’ Tapena No Ryuu Tomodachi at Trixwood ShCEx BOB

2nd Best -Rawlings Red Ashanti Di Poggio Petroio (imp ITA)

2 handsome males from the same kennel headed this class. I was splitting hairs between the two. Both are well-made and sound. Nice size and body shape with sloping shoulders and tight elbows, and both had level toplines and a short loin. They had well-set tails and parallel hocks. I preferred the head and expression in 2nd place, and the movement in 1st. Just felt 1 had the better coat on the day, which gave him the edge. I’m sure these lads will change places regularly!

3rd Best-Rawlings Natsumihime Go Ryukyu Uruma at Trixwood (imp JPN)

I judged this young lady as a minor puppy and awarded her Puppy group 1. She's matured beautifully and I like her as much as I did then! Lovely wedge-shaped head with dark, oval eyes & small high set ears. Correct size and body shape. Nice angles front and rear & good tail set. Moved well. BOB & G2

2nd Gibson’s Kaiaki Star Attraction

Litter sister to 1st place and has many of her sisters qualities. I just preferred the more compact body shape of my winner.

AVNSC UTILITY

Open (5,1)

1st Todd’s Ch Witchgait Toasted Cheese Jw ShCEx OSW - Shar Pei

There's no denying this dog's quality and I've admired him from the ringside on several occasions. There’s really nothing that I can write that hasn’t already been written about this dog! Lovely example of his breed and a true showman who gives 100% every time. Would’ve benefitted from a less crowded group ring to move out as I've seen him do in the past. Best NSC & G4 in a very strong group. A credit to his owners.

2nd Pike & Woods Penbro Seize the Day at Eivisah - Min Schnauzer

Ultra smart puppy with a beautiful outline. Good head, eye & ears. Compact, nearly square body with good depth of chest and spring of rib. Correct topline & tailset. Moved well, driving from his powerful hindquarters. Excelled in coat texture. Special Best Puppy in group
