South Eastern Hound Club

6th September 2026

Judge: Miss L Tarabad (Khatibi)

Beagle

Many Thanks to the Beagle Association for supporting the entry and the committee of SEHC for inviting me to judge at their super show for a second time. The venue is absolutely fabulous with huge rings so the hounds can really make the most of themselves, the weather was beautiful and I had a lovely entry with just one absentee.

Junior (2)

1.Miller’s AlkiraBeau Showtime. 16 month dog with handsome head of good proportions, defined stop between dark eyes, low set ears, well flewed lips, big black nose and soft expression. Good neck, firm topline and well set and carried tail, could have a little more angulation in front and be a touch shorter in body for ideal balance. Moved freely with some reach and drive holding his outline firm. Handled and presented to an advantage.

2.Poulter’s Rossut Imogene Queen at Bethelite. Just out of puppy and still fairly immature, she was a little unsettled on the move and could have used her tail more. Nice for size and substance with good bone, well sprung ribs and well balanced length of leg. Could have more angulation both ends. Pleasant head and expression.

Graduate (2)

1.Miller’s Alkira Beau Golden Girl. Litter sister to the previous class winner and you can see the resemblance. Fairly compact with good bone and feet, good depth of chest, decent shoulders, good topline and well angulated rear. Pretty, feminine head of good length and balance with large expressive eyes, slight dome, low set ears and strong jaw. Moved freely, a little untidy coming towards.

2.McBain &Stevens’ Maplelayne Serendipitous. Masculine 2yr old with nice enough head qualities but not the expression of 1. A touch long for balance but with good topline and tail, a little short in upper arm, good bone and feet, well sprung ribs and parallel rear. Moved freely, lovely temperament.

Post Grad (5,1)

1.Whitton’s Alibor Genesis of Haggatty. An easy winner here, compact and sturdy with good bone, substance, and well set and carried tail. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders, straight front, good chest and ribbing, strong loin and well angulated rear. Lovely head and expression, correctly shaped with slight dome, low set ears, balanced length to muzzle and nice eyes. Moved with a good length of stride, the best out and back here. Close up in the challenge.

2.Miller’s Alkira Beau Golden Girl.

3.Kimber’s Coachbarn Cresta.

Limit (1)

1.Thornton & Thornton-Margetts' Maplelayne Look Its Barbara. Standing alone so didn’t have much time to settle but returned to the challenge and made much more of herself. Lovely for size and balance with a beautiful head and expression, low set ears, nice eyes, big black nose, nicely finished muzzle with good lips and strong jaw. Soundly constructed with lovely chest and ribbing, strong loin, ample reach of neck, good topline and strong, parallel rear. Moved with plenty of reach and drive but wasn’t using her tail which affected her outline. I’m sure she’ll have better days and she certainly seemed happier in the challenge.

Open (4)

1.Thornton & Thornton-Margetts' Julemark Primrose at Maplelayne JW. A favourite of mine who has appealed previously and in this entry she was again the obvious choice. Such a showgirl who always makes the best of herself, particularly on the move never putting a foot wrong, really striding out with plenty of reach and drive, outline firm with tail carried gaily. Such a smart outline, perhaps could be a touch shorter but she is well ribbed back to short strong loin, well angulated fore and aft with quality bone and good feet. Beautiful feminine head of super proportions with kind eyes and melting expression. In immaculate condition and handled expertly, I had no hesitation in awarding her BOB and was delighted to hear she later took RBIS, congratulations! BOB.

2.Whitton’s Jalhar The Wonder of You at Haggatty. 7yr dog hiding his years well and really impressing in profile movement. Well constructed and presenting a balanced outline with ample reach of neck, firm topline, well sprung ribs, good depth of chest and strong rear. Quite strong masculine head but still has a pleasing expression and kind eyes. Moved so well in profile displaying plenty of reach and drive, not quite as good coming towards as 1 but I called him back to challenge for RBOB and he just pipped his kennelmate to the post! RBOB,

3.Giles-Wyatt’s Clarismore Crown Prince JW.

Sp Working Open (3) Quite a hard class to sort with 3 very different dogs, all veterans and all with different things to appreciate!

1.Kimber’s Coachbarn Crier. “Only” 8 years old and was the baby of the class!! She eventually topped the class with her freedom of movement covering the ground well in profile and being the most accurate out and back. Small, feminine and compact with good neck and decent shoulders, straight front, good depth of chest, well ribbed back to strong loin with tail set and carried happily. Sweet face with nice eyes and soft expression.

2.McBain & Stevens’ Redcap Bella Sorella JW Shcm VW. This bitch at nearly 14 years old really is a huge credit to her owner. Still acting like a puppy and loving her time in the ring, a merry hound... and then some! Really soundly constructed still with good substance and muscle, a little upright in front but well angulated behind and still moving with a good topline and plenty of purpose. Had the better head than 1 but just not quite as good on the move, still a lovely veteran to be proud of.

3.Nunn’s Eardley Sam Which
