Flatcoated Retriever Critique

Puppy (2, 0 absent)

1. Bellamy’s Bochilbarley Fire And Spice. 7 month old bitch puppy. Just right for age and in good coat. Well proportioned, moulded head with a dark almond-shaped eye and a kind expression. Short coupled with a level topline and correct tail set. Good bone and tight, round feet, hocks well let down. Moved well all ways when settled. Best Puppy.

2. Egginton & Davis’ Feldkirk Solitaire With Pajanbeck. Well presented 11 month old bitch. Feminine head with a dark eye and correct dentition. Enough bone with good feet. Balanced angulation and a level topline which she maintained on the move. Tail set ok but preferred the tail carriage of the winner on the move. Clean movement throughout.

Junior (5, 0 absent)

1. Gale’s Willowswind Skylark. 17 month old bitch, presented in beautiful coat and condition. Head long and nicely moulded with a good eye and pleasing expression. Good reach of neck into a well laid shoulder, gradual spring of rib, level topline with correct tail set and carriage. Balanced angulation, moved well all ways. Best of Breed.

2. Bowen’s Clandrift Funky Angel. 14 month old bitch, lacked the maturity of the winner but lots to like about her. Moulded head with a correct eye and strong jaw. Plenty of bone and well ribbed up. Excellent front angulation with a well laid shoulder, balanced with moderate rear angulation. Moved well, just lost topline slightly in profile.

Post Graduate (6, 0 absent)

1. Bowen’s Clandrift Funk Angel. 2nd in Junior.

2. Egginton, Egginton, Egginton & Davis’ Pajanbeck Hold My Halo. Another very promising youngster, presented in good coat and condition. Head of good length and proportions and well moulded. Good bone and feet. Good reach of neck, flowing well into a strong level topline with a square loin. Good tail set and carriage. Moved ok but I suspect would have benefitted from a bigger ring.

1. Bowen’s Ch Clandrift Bring Me Sunshine JW KCWGC SGWC ShCEX OSW. Masculine dog with plenty of bone and correct feet. Good width and depth throughout and well ribbed up with a short square loin. Moderate, balanced angulation which was reflected in his movement. Reserve Best of Breed.

2. Slade’s Hightyne Fly Me To The Moon. Mature 6 year old dog. In good coat. Typical head with a dark, almond-shaped eye. Good bone, good spring of rib and correct tail set. Moved well coming and going but preferred the angulation of the winner.
