Goyt Valley Gundog Society — Leigh Sports Centre, 3 October 2026

Judge: Dr K. Bond

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to step in at very short notice to judge three breeds. I appreciated the opportunity and thank the exhibitors for accepting the change of judge. It was a shame that parking proved a little difficult on the day, as the venue is otherwise well suited to the show, with pleasant grounds nearby for walking the dogs.

Gordon Setters

Puppy (1)

1. Parker-Smith & Tuer’s Yennadon Arrow at Bratticus. Young male of pleasing general type, still immature and needing time to develop. Very green and reluctant to settle for examination, which limited assessment on the day. Further handling practice and ring experience should help him show himself to better advantage. BP.

Limit (3, 1 absent)

1. Donovan’s Amscot Angel on Fire. Male of satisfactory breed type and overall proportions. Reasonable depth of head with a defined stop, adequate neck and substance. Preferred his shoulder placement and front angulation, which contributed to his overall balance. Would prefer a more definite scissor bite. Taking the whole dog into account, he was my choice for the class.

2. Parker-Smith & Tuer’s Lignum Money Talks at Bratticus. Mature male with adequate substance and bone. Reasonable head proportions and expression, with sufficient depth of body and moderate hind angulation. Satisfactory coat and presentation. More upright in shoulder than the winner, whose front construction and overall balance I preferred.

Open (2, 1 absent)

1. Fudge’s Fieldberry Secret Weapon at Rufusmoor JW SGWC. Male of balanced overall proportions, with a masculine head and defined stop. Adequate neck, depth of body and bone, with moderate angulation. Presented in satisfactory coat and condition and showed steadily. His bite and dentition were preferable to those of the Limit winner and, considered alongside his overall qualities, gave him the advantage in the challenge. BOB.

Retriever (Curly Coated)

Limit (1)

1. Inman’s Foxriever Silver Wing Among Keamarola. Returning to the ring following maternal duties. A bitch of satisfactory breed type, moderate and without exaggeration. Wedge-shaped head and good dentition, presenting a balanced picture overall. Her coat was a little straight following her litter and needs further time to regain the characteristic tight curl. BOB.
