Lichfield Canine Society Two Day Premier Open Show

Saturday, 3rd January 2026

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Lichfield Canine Society committee for inviting me to judge the English Toy Terrier (Black & tan) classes. I am also deeply appreciative of all the exhibitors who supported me on my judging career journey to date and for the pleasantly surprising large entry at Stafford.

I was pleased to find that all English Toy Terriers were presented in sound overall condition. However, I would like to gently remind exhibitors of the importance of maintaining dental hygiene in their dogs.

Thank you once again for your support and participation.

English Toy Terrier (Black & Tan) Judge: Mr Kirk Dennison

Class 136 English Toy Terrier Puppy

3 Entries – 2 Absentees, Exhibitor 350 & 352

1st -364 – Regalriver Big Bad She Wolf

A 10-month-old bitch of good size, presenting an elegant outline and well-proportioned frame. She exhibited some nervousness when examined on the table however, once on the ground, she settled and moved with confidence, demonstrating her true stride.

She possesses a slightly curving top line from the withers, she displays desirable features for the breed. Her coat is of a thick black, in excellent condition, contributing to her overall appearance. The feet display clearly defined pencil lines and distinct thumb prints, which are well separated and not blended into the legs an important breed characteristic. Her ears are prominently set towards the back of the head and were expressive, moving attentively as she circled the ring with ease.

Overall, this young bitch shows much promise, with correct breed type. With maturity and confidence, she should continue to develop well.

Class 137 – English Toy Terrier Junior

3 Entries – No Absentees

1st Wykewokes Autumnal Sunsetta of Pendlethrine

A 16-month-old bitch of elegant and sleek appearance, presenting correct breed size and proportions. When examined on the table, she exhibited lovely dark almond-shaped eyes of appropriate size, enhancing her expression. Her skull is narrow, forming a well-defined wedge-shaped head, with a slight stop and proportionately sized candle flame ears.

She displays remarkable thumb prints, well-placed on her rich tan legs, adding to her breed-specific attributes. On the move, she demonstrated ease and fluidity around the ring, showcasing her reach and drive from the hindquarters. It was a pleasure to observe her, as her handler moved her at the precise speed required to highlight her movement and overall quality.

This young bitch combines excellent breed type with sound movement and with confidence promising a bright future in the ring and was the stand out winner of this class.

2nd Witchstone Nasabe Strike Up The Band

A 14-month-old dog who stood on the table with notable confidence, presenting an elegant silhouette. He possesses a beautiful, long, slightly arched neck, complemented by a strong jaw and a lovely wedge-shaped head. While his ears are of correct type, I would have preferred them set slightly higher on the head for optimal breed expression.

He displays striking black pencil lines on his feet, although the thumb prints have run into his forelegs. For his age, he shows well-defined musculature in both shoulders and hindquarters, indicative of his promising development. The tail is set low, in accordance with breed standards.

On the move, he exhibited no signs of nervousness, responding attentively to his handler. His movement was free-flowing and purposeful, with his head held alert, keenly observing his environment.

As he continues to mature, I am confident he will develop further in strength and presence, and will no doubt become a strong contender for top accolades, following in the footsteps of his sire.

3rd - 364 – Regalriver Big Bad She Wolf

Class 138 – Post Graduate

3 Entries – 1 Absentees - 358

This was a particularly challenging class to judge, as both dogs are similar type and size both have same Dam and Sire and exhibited unsound movement for their handlers. Consequently, the final decision was based primarily on breed type, as the outcome could have reasonably favoured either dog

1st – 366 - Ettology Small Gods of Hands

This young dog stood confidently on the table, exhibiting no signs of nervousness towards his handlers. He possesses very striking, dark almond-shaped eyes and an elegant, wedge-shaped head, with ears correctly positioned on a flat skull. The thumb prints are clearly defined and eye-catching, set against his rich tan coat. His tail is correctly set, though it could be slightly thicker at the root; overall, he is a cleanly built compact English Toy Terrier with a good spring of ribs.

On the move, he tends to lean into his handler and appears somewhat fidgety when standing. Despite this, he was awarded first place as he displays more breed characteristics than the second-placed dog.

2nd – 369- Ettology Mr Kipling Apple Pie at Winklefred

This dog has been closely monitored since puppyhood, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of his development. At 2 years and 9 months, he presents as a small, cleanly built, and compact example of the breed. On the table, his handler was able to stack him beautifully, showcasing his elegance and correct breed type. His tan is paler than that of the first-placed dog, but remains within acceptable parameters.

He possesses a correct tail set and displays the breed’s hallmark candle-flame ears, set atop a flat skull. His alert temperament is evident, with ears and head actively scanning his surroundings while on the table, demonstrating excellent breed expression.

While he appeared somewhat unsettled on the move, he stood with precision for his handler when stacked. Overall, he exemplifies many positive attributes of the English Toy Terrier, with particular strengths in conformation and alertness.

Class 139 – Open

11 entries – 3 Absentees – 353, 354, 359

A surprisingly large open class with a wide verity of dogs and bitches to choose from with good qualities in each of the entries within the class. 1st and 2nd place was a challenge as both bitches come from the same Sire both have equal merits.

1st – 362 – Lasagesse Whole Lotta Love with Tettoy JW

This 22-month-old bitch presents with a strikingly fine and elegant outline, characterized by a slight curve from the withers to the loin. She is well-proportioned, exhibiting strength in her jaw and a complete scissor bite. Her neck is long and graceful, complementing the overall balance of her physique. Eyes are dark with out shading of the iris

The head is nicely wedge-shaped with a slight stop, contributing to her refined expression. Her tail is set low, and her tan colouring is somewhat lighter than chestnut, which enhances the prominence of her bow tie marking. The loin is well tucked up, further emphasizing her athletic build. It was this breed characterises that made her my 1st placing in this class

On the move, it would have been preferable for the handler to present her at a slightly slower pace to better showcase her movement and elegance.

2nd – 370 – CH Amalric Coco Chanel with Dalmonde JW

At 3½ years old, this bitch displayed no signs of nervousness while on the table and was comparable in size to the first-place entry. She is a sleek and compact bitch, possessing lovely candle-flame ears set high on the back of her skull. Her chestnut tan markings are clear, with well-defined pencil lines and a break bar present on the hind legs.

She has a nice, flat skull with a defined stop and dark almond-shaped eyes. Thumbprints are visible, though they extend into the forelegs. She moved out well for her handler, demonstrating good reach and drive as her handler guided her around the ring.
