Chesterfield Canine Society

Whippet – Chesterfield Canine Society

Judge’s Critique

I would like to thank Chesterfield Canine Society for inviting me to judge the Whippet classes. It was a beautifully sunny day, the show was run with real efficiency and warmth, and the catering was absolutely outstanding. I was especially delighted to watch my Best of Breed Whippet go on to win the Hound Group and then Best in Show. A wonderful way to end a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Puppy (7, 2 abs)

1st – 303 Afterglow Don’t Dilly Daly (Mrs A Nixon) Red brindle/white trim bitch. Lovely head with neat ears and a clean, strong underjaw. Good front and hind assembly with neat feet. Once settled, she moved with excellent soundness and held her topline perfectly. Full of quality and showing so much promise, her true Whippet type shone through. I will watch her progress with interest. BP & HPG3

2nd – 298 Saraquele Smooth N Sassy (Mrs S A Kemp) Beautiful quality fawn bitch with a lovely head and neck. Excellent skin and coat, shown in top condition. A little more rangy and not as mature as the winner.

Junior (5, 1 abs)

1st – 311 Riocife To The Moon and Back (Mrs L Ryan) Brindle bitch. A quality exhibit, beautifully presented. She has that classic Whippet expression with a super head and dark eye. Lovely flowing lines from her elegantly balanced neck through to her hindquarters. Plenty of depth of chest and fill, with a balanced length over her back, loin and croup. Moved with ease and drive around the ring. So much to admire. RBOB

2nd – 285 Cyangrange Rosabella (Miss A M Bray) Fawn brindle/white. Nicely proportioned with feminine, elegant curves giving a pleasing outline. Loved her kind expression. Good spring of pastern and neat feet, standing naturally over plenty of ground.

Post Graduate (6, 0 abs)

1st – 297 Saraquele Smooth Criminal (Mrs S A Kemp) Red brindle/white trim dog. A sound, quality male who is not overdone in any way. Nicely balanced both standing and on the move. Well angulated front and rear, standing naturally over the ground. Beautifully handled and presented, a very honest, sound dog.

2nd – 299 Udalie Du Menuel Galopin (Imp Fra) (Miss R Kerr) Brindle/white trim bitch. Lovely fine coat and skin. Pretty head with good neck and shoulders. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Held her shape well on the move.

Limit (3, 1 abs)

1st – 304 Afterglow Whirlwind (Mrs A Nixon) Fawn brindle/white trim bitch. Feminine and very sound both standing and moving. Lovely balance and proportion, standing effortlessly over the ground. Attractive head with strong underjaw, elegant neck, smooth shoulders and a curvy body with a sweeping, unexaggerated hind assembly.

2nd – 292 Ranveli Royal Duke of Dawnsafon JW (Miss E N Higginbottom) Fawn dog. Beautiful head and neck into well laid shoulders. Good angulation front and rear with a pleasing topline, which he held well on the move. A strong, well balanced boy with a quality outline. These two could easily change places on another day, so much to like about him, but I preferred the overall shape of the winner.
