Merioneth Agricultural Society Open Show – Wednesday 26th August 2026

I would like to thank the Committee of Merioneth Agricultural Society Open Show for giving me the opportunity to step in at the last minute to judge Toys and Terriers, replacing the appointed judge who was unfortunately unable to attend. It was a lovely, well-run show and I thoroughly enjoyed my day. Many thanks to Beccy Danks and the Committee for their warm welcome and wonderful hospitality throughout the day. I would also like to thank my steward, Jen Deleie, for keeping the ring running smoothly and efficiently. My thanks go to all the exhibitors who entered and brought their dogs for me to assess. I very much appreciated the sporting manner in which my decisions were accepted and it was a pleasure to judge your dogs. Finally, I was thrilled to see the Terrier Group winner go Best in Show today.

Papillon

J: (1,0) 1st Humphrey’s Akajou My Boy D'Euskadi (IMP FRA). 8-month-old red sable & white dog. Beautifully presented with long, fine silky coat. Lovely head with large, mobile ears which were used well on the move. Finely pointed muzzle, dark eyes, good pigmentation. Slightly longer than high with a level topline. Strong, fine bone and hare feet. A lively and outgoing youngster who moved well with light free-flowing action. BPIB, BOB, Toy Puppy Group 1. 

G: (1,0) 1st Meacham’s Jayberry Cheeky Chappie in Khanor. 5-year-old red sable and white dog. Presented in excellent condition. Handsome head with correct bite, black nose and finely pointed muzzle. Lovely large, heavily fringed, mobile ears. Moved well. RBOB

O: (1,0) 1st Humphrey’s Lilnrose Butterfly Kisses to Gloynbyw. 7-year-old sable and white bitch. In lovely condition and well presented with soft, silky coat. Pretty head with dark eyes, good length of muzzle. Dainty and alert. A good mover who made good use of her ears on the move. Went on to achieve Veteran Group 1.

Chihuahua (S/C)

P: (2,0) 1st Lewis’ Tyssul Gentle Whispers. 9-month-old Tricolour bitch puppy. Pretty head with a lovely saucy expression, apple domed skull and large flaring ears. Very attentive to handler and moved beautifully around the ring always holding correct tail carriage. A lovely example of the breed. BPIB & RBOB

2. Stading’s Dorentys Mint Up North Luvs Stadmeyer. 9-month-old red dog puppy. Dainty and compact. Handsome head with well-rounded skull, correct bite and moderately short muzzle. Spirited and outgoing. Moved well. Needs time to body up.  

PG: (2,0) 1st Baker’s Silverbriar Lily. 12-month-old white bitch. Pretty apple-domed head. Large flaring ears, correct bite. Nice size and shape. Slightly arched neck leading to well-laid shoulders. Level topline which she held on the move. Good tailset and carriage.

2. Meacham’s Luckiest Rocket Girl Into Khanor. 17-month-old tricolour bitch. Lovely head with dark eyes, well rounded skull and good length of muzzle. Very spirited and alert. Moved well with good tail carriage.

O: (2,0) 1st Stading’s Toltechi’s Dante Le Poete JW. 2-year-old tricolour dog. Lively, spirited, dainty and alert. Handsome head with apple-domed skull and large flaring ears. Correct scissor bite and strong jaw line. Well balanced and compact. Good angulation and well-set sickle tail which he carried correctly at all times. Moved beautifully with brisk action. A lovely exhibit. BOB

Chihuahua (L/C)

P: (1,0) 1st Lewis’ Tyssul Gentle Breeze. 9-month-old tricolour bitch puppy. A very eye-catching puppy. Balanced and typical outline, lovely head with large flaring ears, dark eyes, apple-domed head and correct scissor bite. Well angulated and held a level topline on the move. Moved with forceful and brisk action. BPIB

PG: (3,1) 1st Hughes’ Trefnanney Ziva. 4-year-old cream bitch. A nicely put together bitch. Pretty head with large flaring ears, scissor bite and well-rounded skull. Lovely saucy expression. Moved very well with brisk action. RBOB

2. Lewis & Clarke’s Chompiras For Your Eyes Only. 2-year-old black & white dog. Well presented with soft coat. Apple-domed head with flaring ears. Well laid shoulders and level topline. Good tail carriage. Moved well.

O: (3,1) 1st Lewis’ Tyssul Ffevrin with Chompiras. 2-year-old fawn & white dog. A lovely exhibit who was well balanced, dainty and compact. Handsome head with dark eyes, correct scissor bite, flaring ears and moderately short muzzle. He had a saucy expression and was attentive to his handler. Moved well with brisk action maintaining a level topline and correct tail carriage on the move. BOB & Toy Group 2

2. Hughes’ Trefnanney Phoebe VW. 9-year-old red & white bitch. Very lively & spirited. Dainty and compact. A beautiful example of the breed. Good pigmentation, correct scissor bite, large flared ears and good angulation throughout. Moved well with level topline and sickle tail at all times.

Pomeranian

O: (2,1) 1st Llewelyn & Jones’ Kenbloom Queen of Gwynbyd. 15-month-old white bitch. Feminine head with small, neat ears, dark eyes and typical foxy muzzle. Compact in outline with plenty of coat. Unfortunately, she was not particularly enjoying her day and was rather reluctant to make the most of herself in the ring. Moved adequately when settled. BOB

AVNSC Toy

P: (2,1) 1st Porter’s Guereza Jack of All Trades. Affenpinscher. 9-month-old puppy dog. Attractive head with dark expressive eyes, wide open nostrils and prominent chin. Monkey-like expression. Short back, well sprung ribs and plenty of rough coat. Moved well with strutting movement. A lovely puppy. BPIB & Toy Puppy Group 4

G: (2,1) 1st Ausin’s Garnox Damien at Mairichis JA. Russian Toy. 20-month-old black & tan dog. A lively and energetic young boy with lots of personality. Lovely head with large fringed ears, correct bite and large dark eyes. Square and compact, he forms a lovely silhouette on the stand and moved briskly and positively always holding a level topline. A lovely example of the breed. BOB & Toy Group 3

O: (2,0) 1st Jones’ Spawood Miss Molly. English Toy Terrier. 2 ½ year old black & tan bitch. Pretty head with large candle-flame ears, tapered muzzle, black nose and correct scissor bite. Elegant and well-balanced. Chest narrow and deep. She moved with precision and drive. RBOB

2nd Austin’s September Song Of Mairichis. Almost 4-year-old brown & tan bitch. Pretty head with large round expressive eyes, well-fringed ears, lean muzzle and self-coloured nose. Fine boned, dainty and square in appearance. She moved with brisk action fore and aft.

AV Toy Veteran

1st (6,2) 1st Humphrey’s Lilnrose Butterfly Kisses to Gloynbyw. (see Papillon open). VG1

2nd Hall’s Sephina The Pickpocket. Pug. 8-year-old fawn dog of good size and weight, thoroughly enjoying his day. Handsome, typical head with dark eye and wide-open nostrils. Well-bodied with a good topline and well-set, tightly curled tail. Moved soundly and steadily with the typical Pug roll, holding a decent outline on the move.

Toy Group

1st Billington’s Aquepins Jessica Fletcher JW ShCEx OSW. 4-year-old Black & Tan bitch who immediately caught my eye for her lovely overall balance and breed type. Feminine, well-proportioned head with an alert, intelligent expression, neat well-set ears and strong muzzle. Compact, well-shaped body, presented in excellent condition with a firm topline showing the desired slight slope. Well-set tail carried correctly. Moved soundly and with purpose, displaying lively, free action. Confident and self-assured throughout, she commanded the ring and presented a lovely overall picture.  

2nd Lewis’ Tyssul Ffevrin with Chompiras. Chihuahua L/C. (See Chihuahua L/C open)

4th Hampson’s Cefndaidi Emilia. 2-year-old cream Chinese Crested Powderpuff dog. A graceful, well-balanced exhibit of pleasing size, medium to fine boned and presented in lovely condition. Attractive head with an alert expression, with dark eyes and well-set ears. Long neck sloping gracefully into strong shoulders. Medium to long, supple body with a well-set, high carried tail. Lovely soft veil of coat. Moved soundly with long, flowing action, showing good reach and drive. 

Toy Puppy Group

1st Humphrey’s Akajou My Boy D'Euskadi (IMP FRA). Papillon. (see Papillon Puppy)

2nd Stephens’ Brightmeadow Billy The Kid. Miniature Pinscher. 11-month-old red puppy dog with many virtues. Well balanced and sturdy, presenting a lovely silhouette when standing. Handsome head with flat skull, oval eyes giving a keen expression, correctly set ears and a good scissor bite. Square in body with well-angulated fore and hindquarters. Moved soundly and steadily around the ring, maintaining a straight back line on the move. Very attentive to his handler and presented himself well throughout.

3rd Hopkins’ Droleus That’s M’Ceiniog Aur at Gwawr. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. 9-month-old Tricolour bitch puppy. Beautifully presented in silky coat. Well balanced with pleasing overall proportions. Pretty, feminine head with large, round dark eyes giving a lovely expression, enough cushioning, well-set ears and correct scissor bite. Good angles to front and rear. Moved soundly around the ring and displayed a lovely temperament throughout.

Welsh Terrier

PG: (1,0) 1st Humphries’ Gaelgorm Reckless Ruth. 4-year-old Black & Tan bitch. Smart, well-balanced and compact. Pleasing head with dark eyes, strong muzzle and black nose. Presented in a good, hard coat. Short in back with a well-set tail, carried correctly. Moved well around the ring, straight and true, presenting a pleasing overall picture. BOB

O: (1,0) 1st Humphries’ Penparc Skyfall. 11-year-old Black & Tan dog who presented a pleasing, compact and well-balanced shape. Handsome head with dark eyes, strong muzzle and black nose. Good hard coat and well angulated fore and hindquarters. Not particularly keen to move on the day but moved well when settled. RBOB

Border Terrier

G: (4,0) 1st Bevan’s Bigginpeak Stanage Spirit at Daeargi. 9-month-old grizzle & tan puppy dog. Pleasing otter-like head with short, strong muzzle and scissor bite. Deep, narrow body and easily spanned, with the required thick skin. Moved very well around the ring, sound and active. A lovely, confident prospect. BPIB, BOB, Group 2 & Puppy Group 1

2. Lowe & Miles’ Rockslade Rave Review. 10-month-old grizzle & tan bitch of lovely size and shape. Pretty, feminine head with a pleasing expression. Good tailset and carriage. Well balanced throughout and moved very well around the ring.

O: (4,1) 1st Hughes’ Arunmere Rhapsody in Red JW. 19-month-old red grizzle dog of nice size and shape. Handsome, typical head with dark eyes and black nose, giving a keen expression. Well balanced and presented in good condition with harsh dense coat. Moved very soundly around the ring. RBOB

2. Lowe & Miles’ Rockslade Rebel Rebel JW. 17-month-old grizzle & tan bitch. Lovely feminine head with very expressive dark eyes. Nice size and shape with good thick skin and harsh dense coat. Moved well and presented a pleasing overall picture. A close decision between first and second.

Jack Russell Terrier

G: (3,1) 1st Rutherford & Serafini’s Jackandfish Scene Stealer (IMP ITA). 7-month-old dog puppy. Lovely head with dark eyes giving a keen expression, black nose and well-set ears. Level back with good tailset and carriage. Moved well with a free, well-coordinated action. A very pleasing puppy. BPIB & RBOB

2. Bailey’s Twinan Raging Inferno with Bryndingo. 2-year-old dog. Compact and well balanced with a lovely head, almond shaped eyes and keen expression. Pleasing overall shape and presented in good condition. Moved well, with free and easy action. 

O: (1,0) 1st Ryan’s Saredon Modern Times. 2½-year-old dog, beautifully presented in good coat. He caught my eye the second he entered the ring. Fabulous head with flat skull, strong muzzle, black nose, dark almond-shaped eyes, well-set ears and correct scissor bite. Well balanced with good angulation. Moved beautifully around the ring with free, well-coordinated action, presenting a very pleasing overall picture. An outstanding exhibit and great showman. BOB, Group 1 and went on to be awarded Best in Show.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier

O: (1,0) 1st Sheldon’s Ringablok Huckleberry. 3-year-old dog. Well balanced, strong and muscular. Short, deep head with broad skull, dark eyes and black nose. Small, well-carried ears and correct scissor bite. Well-laid shoulders with well-bent stifles. Moved freely and powerfully around the ring, showing good drive from the hindquarters. A sound, active exhibit. BOB

AVNSC Terrier

G: (3,2) 1st Fobister & Davies’ Wilgusbin Wonder. Glen of Imaal Terrier. 12-month-old bitch. Strong, substantial youngster with a muscular body, presenting the correct longer-than-high proportions. Strong head with good width, powerful foreface and black nose. Well-set tail carried gaily. Moved well around the ring with good drive from behind. Best AVNSC

V: (6,2) 1st Baker’s CH Annabell From Waringham Castle to Silverbriar (IMP DEU). 8-year-old bitch, strong and well-muscled with a pleasing long, low outline. Lovely strong head with prick ears and black nose. Correct scissor bite. Presented in excellent condition and moved beautifully around the ring with a free, active action. A very pleasing veteran who showed herself well. VG1
