Waverley Gundog Association

Breed: Retriever (Labrador)

Show report -Waverley Gundog Association - Edinburgh - 15th February 2026.

I am so grateful for the outstanding quality entry I received. I felt immensely privileged and thankful that so many of Scotland’s Labrador “ Royalty” considered my opinion worthy and entered such quality Labradors including 4 champions. Thank you .

What a journey but well worth it. I drove through bleak snow blizzards, heavy rain, icy roads, snow drifts. I was as I’m sure everyone else travelling the same direction was grateful for the HGV’s being in front and creating a safe track when we were reduced to 20/30mph single carriageway in a significant snow blizzard on the motorway .

But thankfully when I arrived the sun was shining .

Thank you to the kind Committe for asking me and to my reliable steward Maura Lyon.

It was a two show day requiring focus and diligence.

Puppy - 3(1A)

1. Tulloch - Tullochmohr Thyme to Shine - and shine she did , an 11month super well made black bitch, slightly longer cast , terrific coat carried on a solid frame, super kind shaped head , stood on well shaped tight feet , true otter tail which ran straight off the back giving a correct top line and overall shape. Well deserved best puppy.

2. Larsen - Corrybeck Eilaen Sunbhainn - a shorter coupled yellow dog , well boned with a super shoulder placement and rear angulation , correct jacket but just didn’t have the kind head and expression of the winner which would of given him the overall picture of balance. Hopefully time will allow him to mature into his head .

Junior 3(2A)

1. Tulloch - Tullochmohr Thyme to Shine- stood alone but a worthy winner. As above.

Special Yearling 3(A)

1. Chum & Ma - Brankstonlee Artcturus - a 20mth black boy. An interesting dog to assess and judge against the breed standard. He didn’t quite have the quality of the other exhibits. Lacked overall substance and balance. His head didn’t reflect what I was looking for. Overall though he was a happy boy and at one with his handler.

Graduate 5(1A)

A quality class with some quality exhibits.

1. Bickerstaffe - Exelby Grouse - a very stylish yellow boy, gives a terrific picture of balance brought about by his portionate build which was complemented by his length of leg and his short coupled body. He was at one with his handler, stood constantly fore square, wagging his tail which flowed off his straight top line. He moved with purpose and drive. His overriding feature was his beautiful masculine kindly expressed head. Sadly he was up against some star quality in the challenge .

2. Turner - Dunmhuilig Freya - a strongly built black bitch , in great condition , carrying a correct true jacket, moved with style.

3. Grant - Pollham Morroch.

Post Graduate 3.

A very competitive class containing lovely breed type.

1. Tulloch - Tullochmohr Ultimo Finale JW - a well sized super black boy , full of himself oozing type and quality. A very handsome kind head with true eye colour which gave that honest gift of a forever kind expression . Carrying a terrific coat on a stallion body complemented with great substance and angulation. In the challenge he was a strong contender just slightly longer cast than the BOB. A real pleasure to judge .

2. Pollock - Pollham Bracara - what a beautiful typey dark yellow bitch from this consistent kennel. So reminded me of so many beautiful yellow bitches of the 80’s - 90’s era ; in particular the Poolstead kennel. Often spoken of as, an old fashioned type , which reflects those past great eras . Such a kind beautiful feminine head coupled with balance and correct substance. Lovely straight top line with a super tail coming straight off it representing a beautiful overall picture of elegant type.

3. Grant - Ellukine Sweet Moments

Limit - 2(1A)

1. Pollock - Pollham Jump for Joy - another beautiful typey yellow bitch from this top kennel which carries a great history of reproducing a distinct type with style. A beautiful short coupled balanced feminine bitch with the kindest of heads with a melting expression that just shouts I’m a Labrador . Not overdone in anyway. A very worthy winner . Flowed effortlessly when on the move relaxed and biddable. Thank you for bringing them.

Open -5 (3A)

Sadly weather and human sickness prevented a full house. What a star studded class .

1. Tulloch - Sh Ch Binnaig Bonnach for Tullochmohr - what an amazing quality dog he is. His virtues are plentiful and he just exudes loads and loads of significant breed type. He stands so confidently and just demands your attention with his pleasant cheeky arrogance of “Look at me I’m a Champion “ . He moves with such purpose and ease driven by his well set hocks and angulation powering him effortlessly across the floor. He retains his top line and balance on the move and carries himself with such pride. He looks at you with that melting kind expression through his lovely coloured shaped eyes and handsome head. He was an excellent exhibit and I was delighted to be make him BOB. I later learnt he was BOB and BIS at the second show. What a great day team Tullochmohr and Binnaig had. Many congratulations. What magical matings of the combination of their Sire and super home bred Dams - definitely leaving a stamp and making an impact !

2. Farquharson - Ramsayville Russian Rhythm - oh my goodness what a stunning beautiful yellow bitch. She held her own with ease against the winner . Again another truly quality old fashioned typey bitch from another significant top Scottish kennel. Super jacket. A great size. She swept around the ring displaying super free flowing movement like she owned it ; what more would you expect from such quality. She just exemplifies feminity and type. A complete picture.
