Lancaster & District Canine Society
I would like to thank Lancaster DCS for the kind invite to judge at this well run show held alongside Morecambe and Heysham CA. The committee and stewards worked extremely hard to keep the show running smoothly. Being a 2 day show, I would like to thank those group winners from Saturday returning to compete for BIS. Finally, thank you to my fellow judges for sending quality exhibits through. Judging BIS is always such an honour and every exhibit for the adults, pups and veterans were all worthy winners of their respective groups, well done. Close decisions throughout which sadly meant not all could go home with top honours.
Best in Show
Going forward were the English Toy Terrier, Samoyed, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Boston Terrier, Border Terrier, German Pinscher and Hungarian Vizsla. I was very pleased to award BIS to the German Pinscher Lowe’s Danixaris Daydreamer at Charlstone 4yr red dog. A super square outline, balanced and moderate dog throughout shown in excellent muscular and coat condition. Correct wedge shape to his head, dark eye and v shaped high set ears. Good bite. Clean, strong arched neck onto well set shoulders with correct flat muscle, balanced to his well angulated rear. Nice depth of brisket, elbows tight, good flat ribbing. Strong in his topline, short coupled and muscular loin. High set tail, carried well with correct sweep stood and on the move. Extremely clean in movement out and back, held his topline well and presented a lovely side gait with front reach and rear drive, totally at one with his handler. Very well done. RBIS Smith’s Butterfly Hunter Pancake 13mth Hungarian Vizsla Bitch – just a youngster but so full of quality. Caught my eye in the group earlier. Beautifully feminine throughout, balanced, clean outline, stood and on the move. Lovely russet colour, shown in beautiful condition. Super noble head, dark eye, good bite and correct set ear. Has the most elegant of neck into well angulated front. Nice depth of chest, elbows close in, good bone and strong pasterns. Well sprung ribs, strong topline and loin. Short coupled. Rear angulation balances her front. On the move she is elegant and graceful with effortless front rear and drive. Should have a very good future. Well done.
Best Puppy in Show
Going forward the Pekingese, Jack Russel Terrier, Pointer, Bullmastiff, Japanese Spitz, Beagle and Lancashire Heeler. Quality pups all of which should have a good future. BPIS Thornley and Smith’s Tiltser Bergerac 11mth JRT dog. A very handsome, lively, alert and full of “look at me” attitude. Shown in correct coat texture with good muscle. Masculine in his head, but in no way coarse, flat skull, well defined stop, strong muzzle. Dark eye and well set ear, good bite. Strong neck. Well boned throughout. Balanced front and rear angulation. Strong topline, well sprung ribs. Correct high set tail, carried upright on the move. Very balanced on the move, clean out and back with lovely rear drive. RBPIS Nelis’ Freebreeze Carla Lane 11mth B/W Pointer bitch – beautifully feminine, balanced, graceful, yet strong throughout in outline and on the move. Super head of correct width, well defined stop, dark eye and well set ear, lying close to her head. Correct bite. Has an elegant, long, arched neck, clean and set onto well laid shoulders. Good depth chest for her age, straight forelegs, with nice oval bone, strong slightly slope to her pasterns. Nice spring of rib. Correct sloping topline and croup to well set tail, used actively on the move. Her well angulated rear presents a balanced picture to her front. Very clean in her movement, out and back, lovely side gait, balanced and rhythmic.
Best Veteran in Show
Always such a lovely way to finish a show, such super veterans all in wonderful condition. Going forward the Sloughi, Golden Retriever, Irish Terrier, Shetland Sheepdog and Dalmatian. BVIS Shetland Sheepdog Johnson and Walker’s CH/SWISS/FR/LUX/INT CH Tooralie Pie in the Sky 7yr Sable dog – what a super dog this is and not surprised to see his titles. Shown in beautiful coat and condition, presenting the required symmetrical outline, with not a hint of coarseness. Correct wedge shaped head with a flat skull. His lovely dark eye gave the sweetness of expressions. Correct bite. Well arched neck setting into well laid shoulders. Well sprung ribs. Strong in his topline with the correct sweep over his loins. Correct low set to his tail. His rear balances his front and combined to provide such graceful, ease of movement. RBVIS Very close decision between BVIS and RBVIS Hardman’s Int/SWE/FIN/EST Ch Red Lucifer at Bonosue VW (Re-Imp) 8yr red Irish Terrier. A very smart dog, shown in super condition and coat of correct texture. Not surprised to see he is a champion, both here and in Europe. Super head of correct length with a flat skull, dark eye and well set V shaped ear. Correct bite. Liked his overall balanced, muscular, bone and substance but still presenting the desired grace and racy outline. Clean neck onto well laid shoulders, nice depth of chest, strong forelegs and pasterns. Extremely strong and muscular loin with short couplings. Powerful rear with moderate stifle, clean well let down hocks. Well set and carried tail. Strong and balanced on the move.
AV Gundog Veteran
A super class of veteran gundogs, testament to their owners as they all belied their age. 1st Wallis’ Blue Gemstone Katrina at Camellis VW – 7yr Golden Retriever dog. Such a happy dog, presented in super full coat and condition, muscular and balanced in his outline and movement, good bone and nothing overdone. Liked his masculine head, with the most super, soft expression from his dark eye with correct dark rims. Liked the width of his, not too much but no doubt male. Correct set ears and bite. He is clean and strong in neck. Well angulated front and rear. Lovely depth of chest with close fitting elbows. Level in his topline, strong loin, well sprung ribs well back to short couplings. Lovely feet. Free flowing in his movement, with reach and drive, and a lovely side gait holding his topline and correct tail carriage. 2nd Mason’s Morgan van Freebreeze (Imp NLD) ShCEx 7yr
AV Gundog Puppy (15,7) 1st Smith’s Flyenpyg Agatha Crispy – Retriever (Labrador) 2nd MacManus’ Freebreeze Gertrude Stein at Luneville - Pointer
AV Gundog Junior
1st (12,6) 1st Hill’s Orchidstar Ruby Sunday 13mth GSP bitch – liked her outline, with bone and substance yet maintaining her femininity. Like her correctly proportioned head, with dark eye and correct bite. Clean neck flows into well angulated shoulders with correct narrow width at the tops of the blades. Chest depth good for her age, liked her total front construction balanced similarly at the rear. Well sprung ribs, short coupled. Held her strong topline on the move with good tail set and carriage. Flowed over the ground with reach and drive. 2nd Gray’s Hafwenna How You Doin 17mth GSP dog – Upstanding male, full of bone and substance, all over moderate but would not like any more of him. Well portioned head with dark eye and correct bite. Muscular, clean neck into balanced front construction. I think his chest will continue to drop as he matures. Well sprung ribs and short coupled. Good rear angulation. Lovely side gait with reach and drive, just a little looser out and back but has time on his side.
