Marlborough & District Canine Society

I would like to thank the committee of Marlborough & District Canine Society for inviting me to judge at their show which happened to be my judging debut! I also want to thank the exhibitors for the privilege of judging your dogs; your entry was greatly appreciated as was your sportsmanship.

Junior Handling 6-11 Years - (3, 0)

1st

Eva Scott - This handler presented herself and the dog very well and was smartly dressed with sensible shoes to run her dog. Very well handled and executed a perfect triangle. This handler was at one with her dog, listened well to instructions in the class but unfortunately gave the title of best junior handler to the winner of the 12-16 year old class by doing two laps instead of one in the challenge. Other than that, she had excellent attention to detail and kept a close eye on the judge throughout the class and never got between the judge and the dog.

2nd

Kaycee-Mae Turton - A very smart handler who showed and presented her dog very well. Again, another handler who was at one with her dog and listened well to instructions. This handler showed me her dog’s teeth perfectly without being rushed. Lines could have been slightly neater but overall a good handler; a shame to have come up against 1st today.

Junior Handling 12-16 Years - (4, 3)

1st

Jayden Scott - This handler stood alone but did not disappoint. This handler was very aware of the judge’s movements and never got between the dog and the judge. His attention to detail was fantastic and was able to follow instructions soundly. His identification of the points of a dog were correct and correctly showed me his dog’s teeth. Footwork was excellent and lines were very straight. Best Junior Handler.

Adult Handling 17-51 Years - (10, 5)

1st

Paige Edens - This handler presented herself and the dog beautifully and did not put a foot wrong. Correct identification of the points of a dog and showed her dog’s teeth perfectly without being rushed. This handler took her time and was calm and collected throughout. Her triangle and up and down was graceful and she took even steps to and from. This handler was aware of the judge’s movements and never got in between the dog and the judge even when I went around the back of her dog.

2nd

Chloe Clarke - Another sound handler. She presented herself and the dog beautifully. A handler that seemed to be at one with her dog. She handled her dog smoothly in the triangle but her lines could have been slightly tidier on the up and down. This handler effectively managed a young dog without overworking them and utilised a small ring well with her large breed. Shame to have been up against first today.

Adult Handling 51+ Years - (11, 5)

1st

Claire Tatum - This smartly dressed handler presented her dog beautifully throughout the class and even when I glanced back over my shoulder, this dog was still being presented well. Movement around the ring was sound and lines were perfectly straight on the triangle and the up and down. Correct identification of the points of the dog and listened to instructions well. This handler was always aware of her surroundings and kept a close eye on the judge to ensure she was never between the judge and the dog. Best Adult Handler.

2nd

Anita Skinner - Another well-dressed handler who presented her dog beautifully. This handler also correctly identified the points of the dog and listened to instructions well. This handler’s triangle and up and down was done well but not quite as neat as the winner of the class. I was particularly impressed by how kind, patient and encouraging this handler was with her dog. This handler was aware of her surroundings and noting her small breed, she shadowed her dog very well considering this is a breed that would typically follow their handler rather than standing still.

CKCS

It was an absolute pleasure to have the opportunity to judge this wonderful breed for the first time. I was very excited to see what the day had in store for me and it did not disappoint. I had a wonderful entry for my first judging appointment and I was impressed by the overall standard and quality; a positive sign for the future of the breed.

Puppy - (7, 1)

1st

Coole’s Jolainey Jayden - 11½ month old blenheim male who has a gentle soft expression with large dark round eyes and good cushioning under the eye, scissor bite, lovely coat with well broken markings and good feathering, straight fore legs, lovely lay of shoulder, good topline, well-set tail carried well and excellent turn of stifle. Moved around the ring freely and with grace whilst maintaining parallel movement. Lovely puppy. BPIB.

2nd

Hartill-Speak’s Fortunamajor Resurrection Under Gracewincavs - 8 month old blenheim male - a very promising puppy. Lovely soft head, beautiful expression and I was splitting hairs between first and second. Good cushioning under eye for age and a lovely scissor bite. Beautiful dark eyes but could be slightly larger. Well broken blenheim, good coat for age. Good topline, well-set tail and good turn of stifle.Moved well but could do with some more muscle tone to firm up the rear.

Special Yearling - (5, 1)

1st

Rhodes’ Calonlan Bianca - 12 month old black and tan bitch. A very pretty and feminine girl with a sweet gentle expression and who has a lovely overall shape. Good ear set, large round dark eyes, good fill under the eye, scissor bite. Great depth of chest, tail well-set, lovely turn of stifle, moved well and maintained a level top line on the move.

2nd

Gladwin’s Enigmai Sir Onegite Theseus - 11 month old blenheim - this is a lovely well broken puppy. Beautiful expression, large dark round eyes and ears are set high. I'd like a little more fill under the eye but time is on this puppy’s side. A well balanced dog with a good depth of chest, a level top line and a good turn of stifle. Moved well. Whilst this dog could have had more coat / feathering, this is still a beautifully constructed puppy nonetheless.

Post Graduate - (6, 2)

1st

Gladwin’s Chukimars Poseidon Prince - 2 ½ year old blenheim boy. Heavily marked, beautifully balanced, level topline, good depth of chest, excellent turn of stifle, short coupled, well set tail. Beautiful head, lovely expression, large dark eyes with plenty of fill under the eye. Good bone. Scissor bite. Whilst he was a bit shy, he was confident on the table and moved around the ring beautifully! Structurally was the best of the class and could not deny him the win.

2nd

Bennett’s Arroline Incognito At Remmya - 18 month old tri girl. This is a very pretty bitch. She has lovely round eyes, good cushioning and a scissor bite. Her blaze could be bigger. She has a good depth of chest, a level topline both standing and on the move and excellent turn of stifle, she is just a little fine in bone for my liking.

Open - (7, 3)

This was a challenging class to judge and I think places could have changed on different days. 4 wonderful examples of the breed were in this class and I certainly took my time choosing my line-up here as I was splitting hairs between them all.

1st

Rhodes’ Calonlan Zeus JW - 21-month old male - A handsome well balanced tri boy who very much caught my eye. He has lovely dark expressive eyes, plenty of cushioning and a scissor bite. He has beautiful long ears that are set well with plenty of feathering. He has a moderate neck with shoulders well laid back and a good front. He has an excellent topline both standing and on the move, well turned stifles and a good tail set. Parallel movement and glided freely around the ring and did not put a foot wrong. He has a beautiful coat - an excellent example of the breed. BOB.

2nd

Knapp & Blackie’s Credensa Connor - 4 year old ruby male. A very handsome boy with a fabulous head. He has large dark eyes and a wonderfully soft expression with plenty of cushioning. Scissor bite. He has a beautiful outline with all the right angles but is slightly longer than 1st. He moved beautifully and held his topline well when stood and on the move. RBOB.
