Estrela Mountain Dog Club (UK)

Estrela Mountain Dog Club (UK)

Sunday 17th May 2026

It was an honour to be asked to judge this friendly and welcoming club’s open show. Very good entry on paper but sadly quite a few absentees, but still a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon with this characterful breed and friendly owners. Some new to showing the breed, did amazingly well and I hope the bug bites and you have lots of fun at the shows. Huge thank you to my steward today, we muddled through, kept me right with numbers.

Veteran Dog/Bitch (2)

1st Garregddu Agua (Roberts), 7 year old dark fawn girl, I have met before when she was 3, loved her then and she has matured beautifully, super balanced head of very good width, good length and moderate stop, just the right amount of dome to skull, strong neck, into lovely shoulders and good well boned front, nice tight feet, stands lovely and straight front and rear, holds strong topline, sound unhurried mover, with well set and carried tail with hook and well feathered. RBB and BVIS

2nd Seia Da Quinta Moinhos Das Almas with Milagre (Imp Prt) (Reid) 8 year old brindle short coat bitch, pleasing head, nicely proportioned, good dark amber eye, well set and carried small ear, excellent bone and beautiful feet, good straight foreleg, pretending to be shy today, well ribbed, strong loin, stands well to rear, sound mover but just not making the best of herself, striking girl.

Yearling Dog (1)

1st Lad’s Unesco Da Estrela (imp Swe) (Reid & Haslett), just 16 month old upstanding light fawn young man, beautiful masculine head of good width and balance, lovely dark eye, strong pigment, lovely dark mask, nice small ears carried well, such an appealing expression and the most gorgeous temperament, good forechest, excellent bone, strong tight feet, lovely topline and underline, correct slope to croup, correct tail, stands nice and straight to rear, front could just be bit stronger in pastern, but he’s a big lad with lots of frame to fill, powerful and willing mover, could firm up generally, love him. BD and RBIS

Special Open (Short Coat) Dog (1)

1st Milagre Revolution (Mackenzie & Willicombe), 4 year old brindle short coat male, full of himself, pleased to see everyone, another with lovely broad head, moderate stop, pleasing dark amber eye, neat small ears, carried folded, quite highest, excellent bone and lovely tight feet, stands really well, nice and straight front and rear, occasionally, when all his feet are on the floor, has nice strong topline, well set tail, good croup and can move really well when he concentrates, super temperament. RBD

Special Beginners Bitch (1)

1st D’Cookie Da Casa Rodonda (imp Prt) (Almeida), 4 year old fawn bitch, first time showing for both dog and handler, and both did extremely well, pleasing long head, with very gentle stop, well balanced head, lovely dark amber eye, pleasing mask, high set correct ear, good bone and feet, nicely angulated front and rear, nice and sound on the move, think she was a little bemused by proceedings today, will be nice to see them again when they are more used to ring procedure, hope this is the start of something.
