SPANIEL (COCKER)

I would like to thank exhibitors for my pleasing entry of 23 at this friendly show in a wonderful setting.

It was a real pleasure to go over your lovely cockers and the time and effort that you put into getting your dogs ‘show ready’ was much appreciated. Thank you for accepting my decisions with good grace. You all did our wonderful breed proud. There were some close decisions but I was delighted with my main winner.

Thanks to the Officers and Committee of GBAS for the opportunity to judge at this well-organised and well-run show. Not forgetting my super stewards Debbie and Joan who did a great job and ensured that the ring ran smoothly on the day. I enjoyed working with you.

1st Low, Miss Georgia – HARADWATER GODSPEED IMP PT (NAF) (D) 10 months DB/R

This youngster caught my attention immediately when he entered the ring with plenty of zest and a typical ever-wagging tail. When stacked, he was balanced and square with a super level topline. He has a well-developed headpiece with a distinct stop and width to his square muzzle, giving him a masculine yet gentle expression. His slightly longer neck giving him a proud head carriage. Presented well today with his coat in lovely condition. Merry and true on the move, holding his level topline.

2nd Robertson, Mrs Jayne – ZHERIDONS BLACK MIRROR (D) 11 months B

A lovely boy with a balanced, square and compact outline when stacked. An attractive head, more cleanly chiselled than 1 with a gentle and affectionate expression. Sturdy and strong with good spring of rib and width throughout. Presented well in good condition. He was clearly proud of his tail today and for me this spoilt his outline and balance on the move and tipped the scales in 1’s favour.

1st Flowers, Mr Colin – TOTENKOPF DON’T LOOK NOW (D) 8 months B

My surprise of the day – a lot of dog in a small package. This lovely youngster was well-balanced, square and compact when stacked with a level top line, giving him a very pleasing outline. There was much to like when going over him. An appealing masculine head with a square muzzle and distinct stop. He had a most endearing expression. Plenty of bone and substance, good width all through, well- sprung ribs and well-rounded hind quarters. Very sturdy and strong. Moved through and true coming and going with an ever-wagging tail and plenty of reach and drive. Despite his young age, I could not deny him Best of Breed and Best Puppy. I was absolutely delighted when he rose to the occasion and was later awarded Gundog Group 4 and Best Puppy in Show under Judge Miss S Rossiter (Sonstraal) Will follow his progress with interest.

2nd Furzer, Mrs Julie – LOCHELLAN DUNN’S RIVER BLUE (B) 15 months DB/R

This lovely girl caught my attention from the off. She certainly had ring presence with her merry demeanour, movement and for me, classic appeal. In the line up she really stood out with her well-balanced, square and compact frame, wearing her best jacket to complete the picture. She had a beautiful feminine head, cleanly chiselled with a square muzzle and the softest melting expression. Good lay of shoulder together with good front and rear angulation and well-sprung ribs. On the move, she maintained her level topline and her movement was true, balanced and effortless. Unlucky to come up against 1 today.

2nd Bodzak, Mrs Wilma – WHINBURN DEARG AURORA (D) 2 years 3 months R

A quality dog with a rich warm red jacket who entered the ring confidently and merrily – a showman. Lovely masculine head with a square muzzle and distinct stop. He had a typically soft and melting expression. He was well-balanced and square with a strong topline, giving him a very pleasing outline. Good width throughout with plenty of bone and substance. A lovely boy who moved with ease.

1st Flowers, Mr Colin – TOTENKOPF DRIVING ME CRAZY (D) 2 years 3 months B&T

Balanced and square when stacked with good front and rear angulation and a level topline. The richness of his tan markings and eye pips framed his masculine head, giving him added appeal and complimenting his gentle expression. A sturdy and strong boy with plenty of bone and substance. Merry and true on the move. Just found his tail slightly distracting today. For me, his tail would benefit from a neat trim of its feathering so as not to detract from his level topline and outline.

2nd Davidson, Miss Louise - ANNILANN MISTER BOO (D) 4 years 8 months LB/R

This boy made a very merry entrance into the ring with typical cocker joy and bustling enthusiasm. In the line up he presented a lovely outline, well-balanced, square and very compact with a level topline. Pleasing masculine head with a square muzzle and that melting cocker look. I think this endearing boy likes his treats – for me, he was carrying a ‘touch’ too much weight today. Moved well with drive and purpose.

3rd Crawford, Mrs Lynsey – TOTENKOPF DUTCH DOUBLE DEUCE INTO BINIBECA

O (5,2)

1st Duncan, Mrs Lynzi – CORRALET CONDESA 111 OF DUNHERL JW (B) 3 years 6 months LB/R

An eye-catching girl beautifully presented with her flat silky coat in tip-top condition. A lovely outline when stacked, well-balanced, square and compact. She has a most appealing head with a distinct stop and square muzzle and the softest sweetest look to complete the picture. Was not disappointed when going over her. She has good width throughout and plenty of bone and substance. A delight to watch on the move, merry and true whilst maintaining her level topline, presenting a lovely elegant profile. Another unlucky to meet the winner today.

2nd Davidson, Miss Louise – RANCECRAIG A MILLION DREAMS (D) 7 years 11 months B/R

The only veteran in the cocker classes today, on the eve of his 8th birthday. A real credit to his owner. He entered the ring with gusto and a typical merry cocker disposition. Well-balanced and square with a level topline. A very masculine head with a deep square muzzle and a gentle appealing expression. Another boy that I think likes his treats and would benefit from losing a little excess weight. He moved merrily and well, having noticeable rapport with his handler. A delightful bundle of energy.
