Northern Pug Dog Club

The Northern Pug Dog Club – 28.09.2026

Thank you to the club for inviting me to judge the Special Award Classes at their Breed Open Show. Also a thank you to the exhibitors for bringing their dogs and to the stewards for keeping the ring organised. The show was held in conjunction with Driffield Championship Show, which took place first, then the clubs open show with Special Award Classes at the end of the day.

Pugs:

Junior D/B (2,1)

1st – Dawson-Payne & Mousley’s – Judamie’s Edith’s Sunshine - 15 months old fawn bitch. Feminine throughout, great size, shape and full of breed type. She has the most glorious expression, with large dark rounded eyes. Rounded skull with defined wrinkles with dark pigment and nose with wide open nostrils. Correct length of neck to carry head proudly, well laid shoulder and angulations to hindquarters just as true. Level back and good single twist to tail. On the move she excels with clean foot placement and good reach. Quality bitch here. 

Limit D/B (6,3)

1st – Turnbull’s – Nicobri’s Suit’s You Sir – 10 months old male. He certainly is masculine and of a larger scale in size but still in proportion and has breed type. What I liked about this male is his large rounded head with good wrinkling and pigment. Expressive large eyes, well defined wrinkles, short wide muzzle and wide open nostrils. Decent bone throughout to match his masculine outline. Good reach of neck to carry head correctly with correct shoulder placement and angulations to rear with 1st and 2nd thigh apparent. Tail held tightly over hip. On the move he was excitable but showed good reach. 

2nd- Walkers – Afterglow Able Mabel of Sunlea JW – 4 year old bitch, Well proportioned and cobby. Sweet expression with her smaller feminine head and large rounded eyes. Great pigment here to her head, with clearly defined wrinkles and black ears. Nothing exaggerated, just a neat little dog. Good forechest and tight elbows. Spring of rib, level back and single twist to tail. On the move she was precise with her footfall and tighter in front than 1st but not the reach of 1st. 

3rd – Cogans – Sunlea Minnie The Minx 

Open D/B (6,4)

1st – Walkers – CH Afterglow Wild West Hero at Sunlea JW –

Masculine male who ticks a lot of boxes, he’s a larger boy but not overdone. Large skull with brilliant pigmentation to his wrinkles, ears and head accompanied by large dark expressive eyes. Cobby body, with nice forechest and bone throughout. Level back, spring of rib and decent lay of shoulder. Elbows neat with straight forelegs and oval feet. Correct angulations behind, with good turn of stifle and parallel hocks. Moved out well with good reach in front but slightly close behind. 

2nd – Ellenors – Afterglow Dream Topping at Roesclan JW – Nice shape to this bitch and again not overdone. Smaller in frame than 1st but still cobby and in proportion. Loved her expression, and her dark eyes that really draw you in. Decent bone, lay of shoulder, level back and tight tail. Tight elbows and good spring of rib. I liked her precise movement and footfall but could do with a touch more angulations behind.
