Retford Canine Society – Premier Open Show 15.03.2026

Thank you to the society for inviting me to judge toy breeds at this Premier Open Show. Thank you to the exhibitors for entering their dogs and to both of the stewards (Zoe & Bruce) who kept the ring flowing effortlessly. I’d like to also mention the lovely atmosphere around the showground.

Affenpinscher:

Puppy D/B (2,1)

1st – Wildig’s & Cary’s – Carycares Hot To Go – 8 months bitch puppy, entered the ring with an air of quality about her. On first glance you can see she is a square shape with correct angulations for the breed with hindlegs set well under the body. Correct tail set and held well at all times. Lovely expression. Lively strutting action around the ring, couldn’t keep my eyes off her. BOB, BPIB and later TPG2

Post Graduate D/B (2,1)

1st – Dowsett’s – Ashiblack Baboushka for Tteswood – 20 months old bitch. Feminine of smaller frame. Good expression, nice dark eyes and good upturn. Short neck and level top line to croup. Good shape to body with hind legs set well under the body. Correct tail set and held sickle. Good coat texture. Moved out well.

Open D/B (2,1)

1st – Dowsett’s – Riogaioch King Of Kings at Tteswood JW – Masculine 2 year old male who is larger in frame. Good proportions to skull, with dark round eyes and short muzzle. Showing off the desired expression. He is a finished product with good amount of coat of a harsh and rough texture. Good in body with spring of rib and slight tuck up. Correct tail set just off sloping croup and held well at all times. He moved out well with reach and drive but preferred hind movement of puppy. RBOB

Chinese Crested:

Puppy D/B – (3,0)

1st – Crow & Walkers – Petwalk Breaks The Laws with Casacavallo – 10 months hairless male. He is a quality dog and very well balanced. Slightly rounded skull with good length of muzzle. Tight lips and scissor bite. The deepest pigmentation to nose and darkest eyes. Ideal crest beginning from the stop and tapering down the neck. High set ears, erect and fringed. Good length of neck and well laid shoulders accompanied with level back and high set tail. Skin in great condition. Deep brisket and moderate tuck up. Good angulations to hind quarters. Free flowing movement. BOB, BPIB.

2nd – Minton’s – Calabrinda Bellatrix – 7 months old powderpuff bitch puppy. Pretty head with correct muzzle to skull proportions. Dark eyes with sweet expression. Natural dropped ears set high. Good length of neck, well laid shoulders and maintaining her top-line at all times. Tail set high and carried high when settled. Only a youngster at her first show and gaining confidence and as the class went on she improved with this. On the move she does move parallel, just needs time to gain confidence and tighten up.

3rd – Watson’s – Be My Dog’s Orla at Cacodom

Junior D/B (3,0)

1st – Repeat of 1st in Puppy

2nd – Watson’s – Karamouche Pandamonium – 16 months powder puff male. A lot to like about this male. Good head to muzzle proportions, scissor bite and the darkest eyes, full of expression. High set ears. Good angulations to fore quarters and hind quarters. Level top-line held at all times. Tail set high and carried high. Draws your eye on the move with his reach and drive accompanied with striking coat markings. RBOB

3rd- Boden’s – Pufflepaws Somnis De Reis Gemadar

Post Graduate D/B (2,0)

1st – Boden’s – Ravana’s Miracle Avokaduh for Gemadar JW – 18 months old hairless male. Slightly rounded skull with erect fringed ears and crest beginning at the stop. Almond eyes so dark and glistening. Lean and flat cheeks with tight lips and scissor bite. Good length of neck.Deep brisket with moderate tuck up. Good angulations to hind quarters. Skin in good condition. Another that draws your eye on the move, he shows reach and drive with tail held up. Confident and happy in character.

2nd – Simms – Chundecrest’s My Love Romeo for Maishua – 2 year old powder puff male of larger frame than 1st. Great expression, at one with handler. High set unfringed ears. Good stop, scissor bite and dark almond eyes. Cheeks lean and tight lips. Level top-line and held tail up when on the move. Positive movement around the ring and well schooled. Would just prefer more coat to complete the picture.

1st – Simms – Zerachiel Fur Comb Hall – 20 months powder puff bitch. Smaller in size but proportioned. Very feminine with an alert and happy character, her tail never stopped wagging and at one with handler. Slightly elongated skull with good muzzle length and tight lips. Black nose, scissor bite and the darkest eyes showing off her expression. Good length of neck and well laid shoulders. Level topline leading to high set tail, carried up when on the move. This girl can certainly move with reach and drive flowing around the ring which was a pleasure to see. Would like to see her when in full coat.

Miniature Pinscher:

Junior D/B (3,0)

1st – Scourfield’s – Pernickety Make Your Mark at Danton – 9 months male. Well balanced and sqaure in shape. Alert and full of character. Good shape of skull with correct muzzle length and scissor bite. The darkest pigment to nose and oval eyes. Ears high set and erect. Good length of neck and lay of shoulder. Forelegs straight with spring of rib still coming with maturity. Moderate angulations to hind quarters. Tail set as continuation of top-line and carried well. On the move he showed off his ring presence and his precise hackney gait. Coat gleaming and dark rich red in colour. BOB, BPIB, TPG1, RBPIS.

2nd – White’s – Kingrock Raging Storm – 7 months old black and tan male puppy. Larger in frame than 1st and of more substance. Good shape to skull and muzzle length. Scissor bite. Ears high set and erect but could be a touch smaller. Good length of neck with well laid shoulder. Deep brisket to elbow and straight forelegs. Fore chest well developed for age. Tail set and carried correctly. Good angulations to hind quarters. Gleaming coat with rich tan. Moved with ease around the ring.

3rd – Hewitt’s - Ymar Tamborine Man

Post Graduate D/B (2,1)

1st - Hewitt’s - Ymar Tamborine Man – 13 months old red male. Correct narrow skull with fine muzzle and tight lips. Scissor bite. Oval eyes of dark pigment. Great ear set and size, carried erect and used at all times. Good length of neck, with deep brisket and straight forelegs. Only a slight tuck up as breed requires. Forechest still developing. Angulations to hindquarters moderate. Tail set high but carried rather tightly. Moved out well showing reach and drive.

1st – Hewitt’s – CH Adurus Sundance Kid for Catamyrann JW

My notes state ‘Champion Quality’ and now I can see he already has attained his title. Almost 3 years old and a finished product. Well balanced and a lovely shape. A strong masculine dog with good proportions to skull and muzzle ratio. Dark pigmentation to eyes and nose. Ears erect and high set and used well. Good length of neck and straight forelegs. Square in body and short coupled. Tail set as continuation of top-line and carried correctly at all times. Deep brisket with slight under tuck. Good lay of shoulder and angulations to hind quarters. On the move he has good reach and drive as he propels around the ring and is clear to see why he attained his title. RBOB

2nd – Hewitt’s – Adurus Highflyer for Catamyrann – 4 year old male. Lovely fine skull with lean cheeks. The darkest pigmentation to eyes, nose and lips. Good length of neck, deep brisket but would prefer more forechest. Slight tuck up. Tail set and carried correctly. Moderate angulations behind. Moved out parallel but not the drive of 1st.

Papillon:

Puppy D/B (5,1)

1st – Ryan’s – Feorlig Piece Of Cake -7 months old male puppy of good size and proportions. Ears are well set and used to advantage. Even head markings with desired narrow blaze. Good length of muzzle with black nose and scissor bite. Dark eyes with dark eye rims. Good lay of shoulder and turn of stifle. Level top-line and high set tail carried arched over the back. On the move he was parallel with light positive action. RBOB/BPIB

2nd – Slaters – Zizula Love Was Born To Shine – 11 months bitch. Very feminine and full of character. Gleaming coat coming through nicely of silky texture. Large erect and fringed ears held correctly. Even head markings with dark glistening rounded eyes with dark eye rims. Scissor bite. Good angulations to forequarters and hind quarters. Level top-line and strong loin. Moved with ease flowing around the ring. A tough decision between both puppies and I am sure these two could swap places on another day.

3rd- Prestt’s – Zoloto Pretty Zora

Junior D/B (4,0)

1st – Holmes – Summerjades Fire Cracker – 12 months old male. He catches your eye in a line up with his dark glistening eyes, his lively happy character and his full coat and markings. Pleasing head with good length of neck and well laid shoulder. Straight forelegs with hare feet. Slightly longer body with level top-line and high set tail arched over the back at all times. Moderate angulations to hind quarters. Moved out with ease which further secured his class win.

2nd – Headley’s Yeldaeh’s Mr Fezzywig – 17 months old – Slightly rounded skull with ears set and held correctly. Even head markings with moderate stop, good length of muzzle and scissor bite. Coat of silky texture. A nice size and shape. Straight forelegs and hare feet. High set tail and carried correctly. Moved out well and parallel.

3rd- Brett’s – Spinillons Roze Froma Rebel to Goldmali

Post Graduate D/B (4,2)

1st – Simm’s – Summerjades Snow Queen with Ezhar – 2 year old feminine bitch full of confidence and happy character. Sweet expression with dark rounded eyes. Uses fringed ears to advantage. Black nose and scissor bite. A nice size and balanced with positive movement.

2nd – Brett’s – Goldmadi This Is Me – 3 year old bitch with even head markings and narrow blaze between the eyes. The darkest eyes showing off her expression. Scissor bite and good length of muzzle. Slightly rounded skull with heavily fringed ears. Forelegs set well under the body. Level back and high set tail. Sound on the move.

1st Brett’s – Spinillon’s Canoodling with Goldmadi – Almost 4 year old bitch, who was a nice size. Even head markings with sweet expression. Fringed ears set well. Eyes are dark and rounded. Level top-line. Coat in good condition. A little harder to assess on movement today as she was sound but lacking confidence today.

Open D/B – (3,1)

1st – Lee’s – Lafford Ninja – 2.5 year old bitch. Quality bitch who is very well proportioned. A finished product in full bloom. Happy lively character at one with her handler. Slightly rounded skull with erect fringed ears set and held correctly. Moderate stop with black nose and correct bite. Her eyes are dark and glistening. Good length of neck, clean lay of shoulder and level top-line with high set tail held as a plume over the back. Good angulations to hind quarters. In full coat, soft and silky. Light and positive parallel movement. BOB TG4

2nd – Holmes – Kasper Margenis at Summerjade – 4 year old male in full coat. Uses his ears well, high set and heavily fringed. Even head markings with good length of muzzle and scissor bite. Level top-line and high set tail carried correctly at all times. Straight forelegs and hare feet. Moved out well today.

Russian Toy:

Junior D/B (2,0)

1st – Berrington’s – Pappersley Sybil Fawlty – 8 months old feminine bitch puppy. She has correct proportions throughout. Good shape to skull with lean muzzle, black nose and scissor bite. The most expressive large dark round eyes. Large ears set high and erect with fringing. Good length of neck with head carried high. Squarely built with fine bone throughout. Legs straight and slightly longer than depth of body. On the move she has brisk action and holds her tail sickle. BPIB/RBOB

2nd – Austin’s – Garnox Damien at Mairichis – A confident 15 month old masculine male. I would say he scores on very similar attributes to 1st. Nice head with large expressive eyes and scissor bite. Uses his ears well as he is alert and full of character. Good angulations to hind quarters. On the move he covers the ground with ease with reach and drive. Just preferred the finer bone of 1st.

Post Graduate D/B (7,3)

1st – Berrington’s – Pappersley Basil Fawlty – 8 months old male puppy. Litter sibling to 1st in puppy. Very similar to his sibling. Lovely expression with the most lovely large round dark eyes. Clean lines to head with muzzle lean and lips thin. Black nose and scissor bite. His ears are large and fringed and used at all times. Correct fine bone and good proportions throughout. Good length of leg to depth of body proportion. Moved with reach and drive maintaining his top line and holding his tail sickle. Today his litter sibling took BP but these could swap places on another day.

2nd – Austin’s – Garnox Damien at Mairichis – Repeat of Junior.

3rd – Welch’s - Beaconsflyde Antlia of Fennyfare

Open D/B (5,1)

1st – Berrington & Sahan’s – Jeshua’s Little Missy – 15 months old feminine bitch. She stole the show with her brisk movement. Parallel with reach and drive. Really lovely to watch. Good small skull, clean lines with good muzzle length, tight lips and scissor bite. This is coupled with the the darkest pigmentation. Great expression, lively and alert. Correct proportions throughout with good front and hind quarters. BOB

2nd – Austin’s – Garnox Damien at Mairichis – Repeat.

3rd – Welch’s – Villanelle Wonderful Toy Joreth
