Great Harwood Agricultural Society

Breed: toy breeds

Great Harwood Agricultural Society (25.05.26)

Thank you to the society for inviting me to judge multiple toy breeds at this show and for the exhibitors for their entry. The committee did a fantastic job with the hot weather with covered/shaded rings and a sheltered area for dogs/exhibitors. Many thanks to my stewards Jane and Catherine for your help in the ring, keeping the ring flowing at a good pace throughout.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel:

Puppy (3,1)

1st – Linton’s – Daltonian’s Poppies – 6 months old of dark rich ruby colour and silky coat. Good shape to skull with correct length of muzzle and scissor bite. Lovely dark rounded eyes and black pigment to nose. Good fill of under eye for age. High set ears with feathering coming through. Good bone and substance but would prefer a shade shorter in loin. However still makes a nice shape, with a good lay of shoulder and level top-line. Tail held well on the stand and on the move aiding silhouette. Good turn of stifle. Moved out well today and never stopped showing. BPIB and later TPG2

2nd – Leaver & Gresty’s – Ravaelann Gift From Heaven – 7 months tri bitch. Again this bitch had a good shape of skull with high set ears with fringing. Scores for large dark rounded eyes, length of muzzle and scissor bite. She has a clear outline from her length of neck, to well laid shoulder and level top-line. Again could do with being a fraction shorter in loin to complete picture. Good for bone and substance. Moved out well today.

Post Graduate (6,2)

1st – Corner’s – Delaby Yorkshire Rose – A more heavily marked tri bitch who won this class on breed type. Good shape of skull, with high set ears with plenty of feathering. Correct large dark rounded eyes for the breed which aids that soft melting expression. Good fill to under eye and muzzle. Scissor bite. Good for shape and size, with good amount of bone. Well presented with silky coat. Pleasing angulations to front and rear. Today on the move seemed a tad unsettled and did enough to secure the class win and on the stand she never stopped showing holding her tail correctly and wagging continuously.

2nd – Taylors – Luvtayl’s Million Dreams JW – This masculine male scores for the largest dark rounded eyes and the softest expression. Again he showed really well in this class with reach and drive and at one with his handler. He has the correct silky coat of broken colouring and shown in great condition. Good length of neck leading to a well laid shoulder, level top-line and tail set and held tail as a continuation of this. His hind quarters are also well angulated aiding his drive from behind. For me today I just preferred the size and bone of 1st.

3rd – Taylors – Luvtayl’s Fireflash Rose

Open (5,1)

1st – Corner’s – Delaby Miss Daisy – 2 year old Blenheim bitch. On first glance you can see she is a lovely shape and a good size for the breed. Oh so feminine and has that melting expression. Loved her head piece with the largest darkest round eyes. Her ears are high set with fringing of correct length and volume. Good length of neck leading to a well laid shoulder. Good for bone and substance whilst remaining feminine and a toy spaniel. In full coat of silky texture and well presented. Parallel when viewed from behind. Today was sometimes unsettled on the move but it was a hot day and her breed type secured the win. BOB

2nd- Leaver & Gresty – Ravaelann Scrumptious ShCex – 6 years old Blenheim bitch. Scores for her shape and size making a clear outline. Good shape to skull with dark rounded eyes. Correct length of muzzle with enough fill under eye and scissor bite. She has a good length of neck that flowed straight into her well laid shoulder and level top-line. A nice short back with correct tail set and held as a continuation. Great for temperament and showed the whole time wagging her tail and at one with handler. Good spring of rib and angulations to hind quarters. Moved out well with particularly good hind action. This was a tough class with both of great type and could swap places on another day.

3rd- Taylors – Luvtayl’s Reach out In Faith

Chihuahua Long Coat:

Puppy (5,1)

1st – Hargreaves – Tampico Love Queen – 10 months old bitch. In good coat of soft texture. Loved her expression. Good rounded skull with ears set well. She has the most gorgeous dark rounded eyes, good stop, length of muzzle and scissor bite. Good length of neck coupled with good lay of shoulder, level top-line and high tail set, carried sickle. The same can be said for her hind quarters showing no weakness and with good angulations. She is of good size and bone and a very nice type. On the move she showed reach and drive. Only her first show and she did so well. BPIB

2nd- Flaming Lamborghini Right Royal (IMP CZE) – Another very nice puppy. She is of small frame with coat still coming through but has enough and its of good soft texture. Good shape of skull and ear set. Again with a good length of muzzle appropriate to her head size and scissor bite. Large dark rounded eyes and black nose. She has a good lay of shoulder and level top-line. Although her smaller size she is in proportion and makes a nice shape. Good tail set and carried sickle. Today she was a bit unsettled and had to settle for 2nd today. I did see her again later on in a stakes class and she had settled and showed typical Chihuahua spirit and sparkle.

3rd – Wills – Paulwilchi Polly Willow

Junior (3,0)

1st – Fellone – French Connection Right Royal Of Emarachis (IMP CZE) – 10 months old cream male.. Maybe a little plainer in face than ideal but has lots to like. Good length of muzzle with scissor bite. Large dark rounded eyes that aid his expression. Would prefer him a fraction smaller but he does hold himself together on the stand and move. Coat in good condition and texture just still coming through with furnishings to hind quarters well apparent. Good for angulations and carries tail correctly. Moved out well but was a bit disinterested today with being on grass and a noisy environment.

2nd – Hargreaves – Tampico Sweet Dream – 16 months. Lovely deep rich colour and feminine bitch. Good for nice dark rounded eyes and complete scissor bite. Level top-line and carries tail well. Good lay of shoulder with matching hindquarters which aid for free flowing movement in the ring. Very showy and at one with handler at all times. Preferred the head of 1st.

3rd – Wills – Paulwilchi Polly Reginaldo

2nd – Hargreaves – THA CH Winchis Arnold Noah – 9 year old red and white male. He is a great size and looks so well for his age. Good reach and drive on the move and is a pleasure to watch. Covers the ground well without restriction. Good skull shape and uses his flaring ears well. Good pigment throughout and of good bone also.

3rd- Wills – Dorenty Chuckleberry Fin

Chihuahua Smooth Coat:

Puppy (4,1)

1st – Stading’s – Dorentys Mint Up North Luvs Stadmeyer – 7 months old. Great for size and shape, just could do with a tad more weight. Excellent expression, good shape to skull and uses his ears at all times. Good stop and muzzle with scissor bite. Good pigmentation throughout as well as correct bone. Loved his eyes, really show off his expression. This is coupled with his temperament and he holds himself with ring presence. Still raw and lots of development to do but lots to like. Moved around the ring well and briskly. BPIB and later TPG4

2nd – Holmes & Platek – Laptek Cool Hand Luke – 10 months old male. A different type than 1st, larger and has more substance. He has a good skull shape and uses his correctly placed ears well. Good length of muzzle with scissor bite. He doesn’t have anything to hide and you can see from him standing that he has good shoulder placement and good hind quarters. He carries himself well and covers the ground with ease. Prefer the size of 1st.

3rd – Entwistles – Dorenty El Bandido

Junior (4,0)

1st – Hartley & Fahey – Zoomeera Stormbreaker – I have judged this young male before as a puppy and I think he’s maturing well. Loved his skull shape, his eyes and length of muzzle, completed with a scissor bite. Good dark pigmentation to eyes and nose. Good for fine bone and makes a nice shape, size and weight. He covers the ground with ease and without restriction aided by good construction.

2nd – Holmes & Platek – Laptek Whole Nine Yards at Cazants – 10 months old – makes a nice shape on the stand and again unrestricted on the move with plenty of drive. Very mature and masculine for his age. Good development to his front with forelegs set well under the body. Good angulations behind. Level top-line and holds tail sickle. Rounded skull and scissor bite.

2nd – Wills – Paulwilchi Polyst Irene – 2 year old black tri bitch. Feminine and petite but in proportion. Scores in many areas. Good size and shape to skull with good ear placement and uses ears well. Good stop and enough muzzle. Loved her dark eyes and expression expels from this. Makes a nice shape on the stand with good lay of shoulder and level back with short loin and high tail set carried correctly. Moved out briskly but longer grass than ideal hindered her today.

3rd – Holmes – Cazants Boadicea

Open (6,3)

1st –Hartley & Fahey – Zoomeera Home and Dry JW – 2 years old male, again one I have judged previously and he scores in multiple areas. Firstly he makes a lovely shape and silhouette on the stand. He has nothing to hide with being a good size, shape and weight. Rounded apple domed skull and uses ears well. The most expressive rounded eyes, good stop, muzzle length and scissor bite. Good length of neck with correct lay of shoulder, level top-line and high set sickle tail. Good angulations to hind quarters. 2nd – Holmes – Cazants Dame Gothal – 2 year old cream bitch. Good shape of skull and correctly placed ears. Large dark rounded eyes and scissor bite. Level top-line and correct tail set. Good front with forelegs set well under the body and good spring of rib. Scores for good lay of shoulder with matching angulations behind which aid her movement with plenty of drive. Would prefer slightly less weight to complete the picture.

3rd – Stading’s – Stadmeyer Jesslyn JW

Japanese Chin:

Open (1,0)

1st – Fleetwoods – Abbeyleigh Man On A Mission – 2yo masculine male. He has a moderately broad skull with good ear set and feathering. Correct length of muzzle with good cushioning. Large dark rounded eyes with small amount of white in corner and jet black nose pigment. A happy character who never stopped showing and is in full coat of silky texture. He has a good length of neck to aid proud head carriage and a good lay of shoulder. Tail set high and carried as a plume over his back and profusely feathered. Good turn of stifle. I would prefer him a touch smaller to complete the picture. Today he moved out well on the grass with good reach and covering the ground. BOB

Miniature Pinscher

1st – Urwins – Jaegerson Kingsman JW – 18 months old red male. Alert in temperament and at one with handler. Expresses breed type throughout and has nothing to hide. His length of neck leads flowingly into clean shoulders with deep chest to tight elbows. Moderate tuck up and tail set and carried correctly. Muscled hindquarters with good angulations. Coat short and smooth. Moved out with ease with hackney action. The best mover in the class. BOB and later TG1.

She has large dark rounded eyes with dark eye rims which aid her expression. Finely pointed muzzle with black nose and scissor bite. Good length of neck and lay of shoulder. Level top –line and tail carried over the back as a plume and well feathered I would prefer her to be a touch shorter in length. 1st – Fleetwood – Auberge One In A Million – 2 year old masculine male. He is in full coat of correct texture with high set tail carried flat with spreading hair. His body is short and compact with good ribbing and good angulations to forequarters and hind quarters. Good for eye shape, with dark pigmentation to eyes and nose. Correct muzzle length with complete scissor bite. On the move today he was brisk to and fro, and covered the ground with ease. BOB and later TG3
