Midland Shar Pei Club
Single Breed Open
Partnership Show at Stoneleigh 5 September 2026
Thank you to the committee of the Midland Shar Pei club for inviting me to judge their beautiful breed. I was made to feel very welcome, thank you. Thanks also to Tony and Cath, for stewarding and taking control of the ring in such an efficient manner. I must thank the exhibitors for staying on after the championship show classes had finished and allowing me to go over their beloved dogs. I was spoilt for choice with quality exhibits presented in excellent condition. Although it was the end of a long day for the dogs they all put on a good show. Thank you.

1 ROBINSON, Miss E. D'terescan Bobby Farrell At Youxia (Imp Esp). A good head on this young boy. Square with folds giving him the required frowning expression. Good eye colour and shape, well set ears of good shape and set. He had a nicely angulated excellent front and good tail set. Just the right amount of wrinkle on the head continued across the withers and back. He moved well keeping his top line and tail carriage.

1 GARDNER, Mr M & Mrs J. Mijujo Flat White. A nicely masked two year old Red with harsh coat. Excellent broad muzzle, nicely padded. Alert intelligent expression in dark well shaped eyes. The dark mask colouring was carried through his broad black nose, his nails and anus. Good tail set, nice tuck-up. Well knuckled tight feet. Moved very well.
OD (3,0) The best class of the day.
1 SUTHERLAND, Miss S E & BRADLEY, Mrs J. Ch Eki Zimurrak Jolerob When You Smile For Witchgait. An impressive 6 year old male of correct proportions. Absolutely square in silhouette. Magnificent head on strong neck to powerful shoulders. Excellent topline with just the right amount folds and slight dip behind the withers rising evenly to good tail set and carriage. Chest broad and deep. Moderate folds on the flat head gave him the required frowning expression, dark intelligent eyes framed by correctly set ears. Broad well-padded muzzle. Excellent angulation front and rear. Strong bone to tight well knuckled feet. Happy and alert, his tail never stopped wagging. Movement free, vigorous and true. Delighted to award him Best in Show.
2 GRIMSHAW, Mrs S. Ch It Chernyi Chizh Baloved By All At Sharpuggles. A 5 ½ year old presented in excellent condition. Lovely head and expression framed by gorgeous rose petal ears. Harsh coat, excellent topline, tailset and rear angulation. Very good on the move but played his handler up somewhat in the stand, loosing concentration and with it his posture, almost as though his mind was elsewhere today. A dog of quality, he could change places with 1st on another day.
3 ROWLANDS, Mrs j. Ch Jolerob One For The Road To Meixiu. An attractive boy of good make and shape, the Red Fawn colour of his harsh coat gave nice shading to the moderate folds on withers and back. Stood square with good angulation. Excellent tail set and carriage. Good skull shape and ear set. Kept his topline on the move.

1 BULL & WARREN, Mr B & Mrs C, Ms L. Zaralee I’m Still Standing. Beautiful masculine head on this 7 year old. Broad, flat and powerful with moderate wrinkling giving him a frowning expression, dark intelligent eyes, superb shape and set to the ears, his dark well filled muzzle completed the picture. Excellent topline with strong neck set into powerful shoulders, nice dip behind the withers and gentle rise to good tailset. Plenty of folds to the harsh coat, but without being overdone. Good angulation front and rear. Alert and attentive to handler, he moved with effortless grace. Hard to believe he’s a veteran. BVIS.

1 MORRIS, Mr A D & Mrs H K. Ashowai Rockin Robin. Appealing young puppy with feminine head of correct proportions. Skull flat, with enough wrinkle to give her a frowning look. Thick expressive ears well set, pointing to dark and clear eyes which were totally focussed on handler. Excellent muzzle, darkly marked, broad dark nose. Very good topline and tailset. Tail carried high in a curve over the back. Moderate angulation front and rear. She kept her topline on the move which was brisk, energetic and true. Everything was in moderation, nothing was overdone, nothing was to dislike. Shows great promise. BP & RBIS.
2 ROWLANDS, Mrs J & BRADLEY, Mrs J. Eki Zimurrak Sugar Drift (imp Esp). Attractive 11 month old Black with lovely harsh coat. Excellent front and rear angulation. Tight feet. A little unsettled today in the stand today, but she moved well. I would prefer an little more dip in the topline before rising to a flat croup, but that may come as she matures.

KNOX, Miss J. Wyldette Lilith Never Eve JW. A lively 21 month Red. Stood 4 square in the stand with a good topline. Alert, quizzical and frowning expression in well-proportioned head. Muzzle strong and well-padded yet still feminine. Clear dark eyes of good shape. Very good front, chest broad and deep, elbows tucked close to body, good slope to shoulders, good bone in straight wrinkle free forelegs. Moved very well. Handler must resist the temptation to
fuss over her rear in the stand as the dog stands well naturally. There is no point in rearranging rear legs that are already well placed.
2 WILKINS, Mrs R. Wanmei Miss Sunlight. Very attractive 25 month Fawn with dark markings to muzzle, nails and anus. Feminine head of excellent shape, very good ears well set on flat skull, dark almond shaped eyes clear and expressive. Good front and rear angulation. When in the stand the handler must beware of holding the bait too high because it made the exhibit look up high, ruining its topline. This was particularly relevant when the handler brought the bait up to her mouth as though to take a bite from it, the dog developed an exaggerated dip behind the withers. However, movement was good and the topline correct when moving, so with a modification to handling in the stand its potential should greatly improve.
LB (3,0) An excellent class of quality exhibits.
1 GRIMSHAW, Mrs S. Sharpuggles Hold On Tight. Attractive young girl who was well proportioned. Compact and square from every angle. Attractive folds. Gorgeous head of just the right size, with skull flat, ears thick and well set on pointing to dark eyes, muzzle well padded. Excellent topline with strong yet feminine neck, well pronounced withers behind which the back had just the right amount of dip before rising to a good tailset. Moderate tuckup. Good angulation front and rear, shoulders well sloped, feet tight. Moved really well with purposeful stride
2 WILKINS, Ms R. Wanmei Follow The Sunshine. Pretty 25 month old girl with a lovely horse hair coat. Fawn with beautiful markings, dark muzzle, excellent ears pointing to dark clear eyes. Good topline. Moderate angulation front and rear, excellent tailset and carriage. Moved very well.
3 GARDNER, Mr & Mrs J. Mijujo Costa Fortune. What a lovely head on this 2 year old, flat between correct ears, a hint of mischief in dark expressive eyes, well padded muzzle, excellent tailset with tail carried high and falling over the back, small tight feet perfectly aligned front and rear. Animated on the move, she held her topline and moved with powerful stride.
