Potteries Staffordshire
Bull Terrier Club
Open Show
15th
February 2026
To the Committee, Officers and members of Potteries
Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club, thank you for the invitation to judge at your
Open Show. The very warm welcome from all of the committee members and the hospitality
that my wife and I received was exceptional (step forward Mr Dave McKimm). The handmade
gift was very special indeed and I thank you for it very much. The efforts of
the committee and members that obviously been put into organising and holding
this show was much appreciated by all, especially me. The new venue was excellent,
with plenty of room for exhibitors and their dogs, and a good-sized ring. I am
grateful to Tyler and Georgia who acted as ring stewards, your assistance in
keeping the ring moving very efficiently for me made everything much easier on
the day. My thanks to you both for a great job, well done.
Last
and certainly not least, thank you to all of the exhibitors who afforded me the
opportunity to go over your dogs and accepted my decisions sportingly, and with
good grace.
The
entry figure was huge, with some excellent Staffords to go over. I appreciate
that the weather has been woeful this Winter and keeping dogs fit can be
difficult in such conditions, but the overall fitness levels were commendable, in
some exhibits, exceptional and this can make a difference. Well done! In terms
of dentition, I don’t mind a slightly misplaced incisor or a broken tooth or
two, they are terriers after all and it happens very easily, but I did find a number
of exhibits with inverted (converging/base narrow) canines and one with a level
bite. No dogs exhibited any degree of breathing difficulties even though there
were a couple of very short muzzles.
Minor Puppy Dog (4, 0)
1st.
Davis & Davis’ Sharmara Fidelus Charm
A brindle
and white pup, compact and with an excellent head of good proportions. He has a
good muzzle length and a well-defined stop. Rose ears and very dark, round eyes
give him a lovely expression. All is sound in his mouth. He has a straight
front, well boned legs, strong pasterns, and very neat feet. Well ribbed and with
a level topline, well placed shoulders and nicely bent stifles, his movement
and handing were excellent. Good luck with him, he has plenty of potential and
should do well.
2nd. Fairhursts’
Fairleniums Snow Storm
White pied.
A bigger and stronger pup all over with a strong, deep skull. He has a decent
length of muzzle housing a correct scissor bite. Rose ears and dark, round eyes
add to the attraction. He has good rib, correct angulations, a good bend of
stifle and a level topline. He moved well and carried his tail correctly. I
preferred the more athletic frame of 1st and these two will swap
places in future, I’m sure.

Kerry, Houwaart & Daly’s Jacobeaus The Legacy
Black brindle. This is a super, classy young dog developing very
nicely indeed. His skull is deep and with good width, his muzzle is of a good
length with a correct scissor bite. The darkest of eyes and neat ears create a
piercing expression. He is of standard height, of good width in front and with
plenty of forechest. His brisket is of correct depth and well-muscled. His neck
is strong and tapers nicely to his withers and well angled shoulder assembly.
Enough spring of rib for his age, his loin is spannable and he is well tucked
up. There is plenty of muscle in his hindquarters and his stifles are nicely
bent. He maintained his level topline stood and on the move. His coat was short
and gleaming. A great blend of bull and terrier (strength and athleticism), I
was very impressed with him.
BEST PUPPY DOG, BEST PUPPY IN SHOW
2nd. McDermott
& Arntzen’s Proudstaff Day Tripper
Black
brindle, well up on the leg, with the neatest of feet and very nicely balanced.
His head is of good proportions with a strong, square muzzle and with a correct
bite. Neat rose ears and well-placed, dark eyes complete the picture. He has a
correct length of neck; he is ribbed well back and there is enough spring for
his age. His angulations are correct, with well laid-back shoulders, a good
length of upper arm. In his hind quarters, his stifles all well bent and his
hocks are well let down. Consequently, his movement was sound out and back and
he maintained his level topline, also carrying his tail correctly. He is not
just as far on developmentally as 1st, but I look forward to seeing
him again as I feel he has huge potential. Good luck with him.

the day. He is of standard height, compact and very well-muscled. His head is
strong without being overdone, is of good width and depth and well
proportioned. His muzzle is of good strength and his bite is correct. Neat rose
ears and his well set, dark eyes give his expression an impressive intensity.
His front is straight, his legs are well-boned, with strong pasterns and neat
feet. He has a strong neck, correct shoulder angulations, a very pleasing and
proportionate width of chest. His brisket is of good depth, his ribs nicely
sprung and he is close coupled and very definitely light in the loin. His

A
substantial, powerfully built, top-sized fawn dog. He has a powerful head with
a deep, wide skull, dark eyes, and neat rose ears. He has a correct scissor
bite. His neck is strong, his chest is wide and he has a barrel rib. His
strongly boned front legs, strong pasterns and neat feet, and correct
angulations in his shoulders are complimented by, well bent stifles and
powerful thigh muscles in his hindquarters. All of this made allowed him to
move soundly out and back. I just preferred the more compact proportions of 1st.

length of muzzle and a correct scissor bite. He has a strong and well-muscled

Marsden’s Jayneze Doctor Jimmy At Modlife
A brindle
dog of top size, this was my standout dog on the day. His head is strong and of
the correct proportions; wide, deep, with excellent cheek bumps. His muzzle is
of a good length and houses a perfect scissor bite. Going over him, he has a
strong neck, correctly angled shoulder construction showing no looseness, a straight
front with well boned front legs, strong pasterns, and neat feet. He has a deep
brisket, well sprung rib, and the required lightness of loin. In profile, he displays
a combination of strength and athleticism suggesting a fitness for function.
His topline was level stood and on the move. He has a wide front with plenty of
forechest and he has hard, tight muscle right through from his chest to his
powerful first and second thighs. His stifles are well bent, and his hocks well
let down. Overall, he has a very impressive physique. Consequently, his
movement is parallel fore and aft, with drive from his strong hind end. He was
presented in excellent condition with short nails and gleaming coat. However,
his physical excellence aside, this dog has presence. He has neat ears and
round, dark eyes with an intensity in his expression that is hard to ignore.
There is a confidence and an air of menace about him that I loved. I was very
happy to award him Best Dog and Best In Show.

A flashy
white and brindle dog with good lift and substance presented in excellent
condition. He has a strong and clean head with a good depth and width to his
skull. His muzzle is of a decent length, with a strong underjaw and he has a
correct scissor bite. His front is straight, of good width with good forechest.
His legs are well boned and supported on strong pasterns. With a strong neck
and correctly angled shoulders, he showed no looseness. He is closely coupled,
his brisket is of the correct depth, his rib is well sprung, and he maintains a
level topline standing and on the move. In his hindquarters, he has well bent
stifles, strong first and second thighs and well let down hocks. His fitness
was evident from his hard muscle to his well tucked loin. He moved very well
out and back with his tail carried low. He impressed me a lot. A bit of a

brindle of 8 years old in very fit condition that would not look out of place
in the open class. She is a picture of class from nose to tail. Her head has
strength but retains femininity, with width, depth, and as strong muzzle of
good length. She has a correct scissor bite, well-set rose ears, round, dark,
eyes. These combine to give her a very attractive expression. Her neck is
strong and of correct length, tapering to her correctly angled shoulder and upper
arms. Her front is straight, of nice width and her legs are strong and she has
very tidy feet. She was up on her pasterns the whole time. With a good rib,
level topline, light loin, and a nice tuck, in profile she presents an athletic
outline. Her hindquarters have well bent stifles and good, hard muscles in her
thighs. When she settled, she moved with ease and carried her tail correctly. A
