Deerhound Club

My thanks to everyone for staying for these classes after the Open Show, it was very much appreciated and the friendliness of the Club in general made the day so pleasurable. So pleased to see that the Club has good support from all of these exhibitors.

Special Award Classes

Special Not Bred By Exhibitor (14) 6 abs

1. Girling’s Chuilinn Flare presented a very feminine & well-proportioned appearance, head of good balance clean skull, tapering nicely through to the muzzle, clean lips, lovely dark eye & good expression, ears set well & all carried on good neck with prominent nape, shoulders laid well, straight front & not too wide, good depth of brisket, ribs sweeping back with good tuck up & gentle rise over loin, good bend of stifle, strong hocks, moving with good forward reach making her stride flow well, muscular, very graceful & rough coat in good condition, she was a nice exhibit.

2. Llewellyn’s Kilbourne Ocean Blue of Matahari of very nice type & of slightly taller proportions, very feminine with good long head, skull clean, good brow & excellent noble expression, ears set & carried well, neck flowing nicely into good shoulders & good return of straight front, correct for depth, loin rising nicely over to croup, hindquarters well bent, thick root to tail held well, she had good forehand reach on the move & just lost out to 1 with a less positive rear action.

3. McKie’s Anyanka Chase of Lycanfold

Special Bred By Exhibitor (12) 6 abs

1. Helps Beardswood Yseult still young at 19 months this very delightful & feminine bitch held herself very well & displayed a very elegant yet strong profile, head with long clean skull, ears held high with good fine feel to them, eyes oval & dark, prominent brow giving that noble far seeing expression, foreface tapering nicely, scissor bite & black nose, prominent nape to good strong neck blending nicely into her shoulders, straight forelegs with reasonable width to chest, ribs of depth blending back well & good belly tuck-up, rise over loin, good droop to hindquarters that were of good bend & width, muscle-tone good, tail of length & held well, when she took off she was collected, alert & poised with good reach & strong propulsion.

2. Stuart & Holt’s Ollandsheart Matilda this one really appealed and thought she would be my winner when they first came into the ring. Constructed well to the standard with good proportions & strength throughout, lovely feminine head with good expression, all the essentials & very easy on the eye with a most graceful outline, just lacked a bit of power today when she moved off which tipped the balance in this very nice class, close decision.

3. Bailey’s Greyflax Minnie The Moocher

Special New Members (2) 1abs

1. Zhang’s Rugged Grace feminine 2 year-old pale grey brindle who was slightly overawed by everything today, she had a good length of head, oval eye, decent width in front & nice long ribcage with adequately angled hindquarters, good length of tail, tended to drop her head when moving around and feel that further ringcraft would be of benefit to her.

Brace (8) 6abs

1. Lucas & Dargonne’s Packway Smackfarthing; this pair of Deerhounds complemented each other so well in this class & demonstrated good breed type with desirable characteristics, moving off together in harmony around the ring.

2. Taylor’s Packway Star of the East; another pair clearly enjoying their go around the ring.

Best Head & Expression (22) 12 abs

Such a difficult class to ultimately define but I felt the ultimate winner was so appealing in her head properties with a good balance from her flat skull, high fine smooth mouse-pelt soft ears with fold, through to her brow with good furnishings, dark oval eyes, length of muzzle with very little stop, good scissor bite, clean dentition, clear dignified faraway expression & noble bearing all combined, just shouted out Deerhound character so well.

1. Stuart & Holt’s Ollandsheart Matilda

2. McKie’s Anyanka Chase of Lycanfold

3. Ch Beardswood Uther

Best Movement (19) 13 abs

The ultimate winner of this class demonstrated an even, sound easy action from pasterns with very good smooth forehand reach, using the strength & muscle in her hindquarters to propel her smoothly around with little effort & covering the ground very well.

1. Helps Beardswood Yseult

2. Faircloth’s Penherald Polka at Calbraidh

3. McKie’s Anyanka Chase of Lycanfold
